2015 BMW S1000R | Quick Ride & Review
Dukes and Duchesses!! What a day, oh what a lovely day it was. As the video states, this is my first ride and review of the 2015 BMW S1000R, and I was and remain seriously impressed. The Tuono will always have a very special place in my heart, but this is an especially refined machine.
Like, comment, and subscribe for more!!
Huge shout out to Motorcycles of Dulles for letting me take this beauty out for a spin, and for generally being awesome. Please check out their website, and stop by their location if you are in the Northern Virginia area.

Virtu FA Very excited for you mate! I', heading over to that dealership later this week to take a longer test ride. So refined, so comfortable, and yet still savage.

Virtu FA that's kinda funny sold my street triple r beginning of the year, told myself done riding for now...... I was wrong, not going to pickup another bike this year but next spring I'm really tempted to get one of these. How do you like yours especially after the Stripple R?
@jet198100
@jet198100 9 лет назад
DukeOfDC it's ridiculous... Can't fault it at all other than filling up a lot. Very planted very fast but also confidence inspiring. The triumph is epic so takes a lot of beating. I do like the extra power... a lot!!

Good review. Just one question. In a test drive can you put a couple of gallons of fuel or you are not allowed to do that. I wanted to see more of your review. Were you able to test at 60+MpH too see the wind effect. I do have a 45 miles commute (one way) and I wonder if it's comfortable.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
Marcelo Paciorek Thanks! So this was the first time I took a bike out from this dealership, but knowing what I know now, I would have totally just gone and filled it up so I could have taken it out for at least an hour or two. I was able to test at 60+mph and the wind blast isn't "bad" until you hit 80-85mph. The beautiful thing about these "naked" bikes like the S1000R and my Tuono is that the headlight assembly leaves aftermarket manufactures plenty of room to produce great touring screens. If all you are concerned with is the wind blast then I would tell you to buy the bike and then go out and get a Puig, or even BMW aftermarket screen for it.

I have one of these. That popping seems to be a BMW thing. It's a great bike. I'm going do a comparison to the new Tuono myself.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
CNCycle I seriously love my Tuono, but I'll be honest. If the BMW dealership gave me a stellar tradein deal, I would probably get an S1000R. It's just a more refined commuter machine.

How is the wind blast when going 80+mph?
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 8 лет назад
E.S. BiH At or above 80 is where the wind blast really comes into play, however I find it very bearable. Takes some time to get used to it/develop the neck muscles, but after that it isn't an issue at all.

2015 Tuono's were redesigned with new headlight assembly and 1100cc engines. Yours looks like the 14' to me. It might be because I'm from Missouri but I'd be curious to see the manufactured date. But besides that. ..you do really great videos and your endings are pretty funny! What mic setup were you using? It did a great job of keeping wind noise to a minimum.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
I'm glad you like the videos! If you're looking for info on my setup then I would check out my setup video from a while back, only reason is because it would be the longest post if I typed it all out. I think the only new thing with my setup since then is that I also use an external Handy H1 Zoom and Sony lapel mic that I stick under the pillion seat to pick up that brutal exhaust note. You're on to something with the manufacturing year, however in 2015 Aprilia is producing two Tuono's. The 1100cc Factory version as well as a 2015 1000cc V4R aPRC (mine). The 1100 hasn't been released in the states yet (I don't think) but it'll be mental when it does.

TheFlyingTiger74 2016, not 2015...the ones shipping in 2015 are still the "old" ones easy trick to spot the difference right away - color (the newer updated models no longer come in "single" color, they have a few decals now)

Great reviews. I've watched them all several times. Seeing if you could help me decide which bike to get. I've been riding sportbikes my whole life, just sold my speed triple and looking at the S1000r or XR. How bad is the wind on the R at highway speed? Which bike would you recommend? I live in Dallas. For commuting and highway ridding. No long tours or anything over 2 hours. Thanks bud.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 7 лет назад
+kjt550 appreciate the support man!! Hmm from what you've said and the fact that you're not really planning any long trips, I would go with the s1000r. It's really a jack of all trades and the wind resistance on your chest is there, but not a deal breaker at all. Also, easily mitigated with a plethora of after market options for wind screens
@kjt550
@kjt550 7 лет назад
DukeOfDC that's what I was leaning towards. In your XR video you said you were strongly considering it. What did you end up with?

kjt550 For me, yes. It still had that more unique feel than the s1000r and a huge twin that I love. I've now owned a twin, inline 4, and V4. If I keep this up, I'll be on a triumph next haha
@peterkir82
@peterkir82 9 лет назад
I'm considering either the Tuono or S1000R myself and watched your reviews with interest (very good, honest reviews too)... and I had a question: In your Tuono review you mention that you bought the bike before being given the chance to test ride one, and I assume that the ride on the S1000R was the first time you'd ridden that bike after having already purchased the Tuono. I know you love the sound of the Tuono; on-throttle and at high rpm it is awesome and unique, but the S1000R also sounds fantastic with the popping on the overrun... but you mention the S1000R ergonomics are more comfortable than the Tuono and in the RnineT video you also mention the ease at which you could almost instantly throw the bike into a corner... Having now ridden both, if you had your time again - price being equal, which bike would you now buy?
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
Pete K Hello! Thank's for reaching out! Yes that is correct, I bought the Tuono basically sight unseen in terms of test riding one first (however I luckily don't regret it). If I had my go again, prices equal (important factor for me), then I would have to say that I would have bought a BMW S1000R without regret. It is a jack of all trades and a master of damn near all of them as well. If you plan on putting heaps of miles on a bike, but also want something you could take to the track in a heartbeat, then go with the S1000R. It's just so comfortable. It is noticeably down on power from the Tuono, but not to an extent that you would notice on a public road or on a daily basis. Hope this helps!
@peterkir82
@peterkir82 9 лет назад
DukeOfDC Awesome, thanks for your help... here in Australia the S1000R is only $360 more (with the dynamic package) than the 2014 Tuono, and $640 less than the Tuono 1100... so the price is essentially the same - although you can get better deals on the Tuono than the S1000R.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
Pete K Ahh gotcha, yeah here in the states the difference in price was fairly substantial after the Aprilia promotions for that month were taken into account. As I said though, all things the same, I would go with the S1000R.

Hi I notice that you blip the throttle on downshifts, do these have a slipper clutch? That should negate the need to blip on downshifts. I used to do it by habit on my rsv4
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 7 лет назад
I'm fairly certainly they do have a slipper clutch, but am also pretty certain that you still need to blip? Does blipping not still help smooth out downshifts

Hey! Which do you prefer. The tuono v4 or the s1000r?
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
I've been asking myself that same question all week. I'm heading over to the BMW dealership this week because they had a lot of interest in my Tuono, and if they gave me a tempting offer, I might make a swap. To make a long answer short, the Tuono is truly savage and the S1000R is refined. If you commute a lot, get the s1000r. If you want a monster between your legs, get the Tuono.
@DJMotoVlogs

Hey, was the bike really buzzy? I've been hearing that a lot of about these.
@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 8 лет назад
+DJ MotoVlogs I had to go back through and watch this video since it's been so long. You know, out of all the 1000cc bikes I have ridden in the sport/supersport/sport touring lineup from BMW, I would say the S1000XR was the most vibby. The S1000R certainly had a buzzy point when you were cruising at a certain speed in top gear, however it wasn't very bothersome. Again, nothing a heavier set of bar ends couldn't mend.
@DJMotoVlogs
@DJMotoVlogs 8 лет назад
DukeOfDC Ah, okay, thats not bad. My 636 gets buzzy in 6th at cruising speeds but gets better the faster I go so I just go faster now. lol

@DukeOfDC
@DukeOfDC 9 лет назад
reefer013 Thank you! I would agree with you there. Although the popping sound when you come off the throttle is sexual, the general sound at speed leaves something to be desired. I think we can all agree the RoyalJordanian has done it best with his S1000R

+jwallz1 It's a very tough choice, and something that I get asked a lot. Would you been getting the newer 1100cc Tuono or a 1000cc model? The deals that are going on regarding the 1000cc Tuono are amazing and for that price you get a bike that really rivals the S1000R. Whatever choice you make will be the right one regardless of the bike. Ain't nobody got time for regret lol

+DukeOfDC i would be getting the new 1100. my last bike was a 2009 fz1 and I loved the inline 4, but I have a love for this v4 sound I cant get over and on the bright side it is a lot cheaper then the BMW (bring money with) haha
