Alright, im a 300 fan, but if you want to compare numbers, why didnt you use a rwd 300 v6? You would save in weight, price, and at the end of the day, they would have been at least equal. Not to mention, but you seemed to have a slowish rolling start when doing the 300's 0-60, but no such thing when dragging. Actually, looked like the Avalon actually got moving faster than you. You should have switched cars and done the test again if anything. Bah, do the test again with the V8 in the 300.
@DanielNgoTJK
@DanielNgoTJK 8 лет назад
+Scott Thede But still, even if the Avalon had a 1/2 second jump on the 300, the Avalon's wheel spin should allow the 300's AWD to catch up to the Avalon. But then again, an extra 500 lbs. really makes the difference. It would be interesting to see a drag race in the Chrysler 300 Hemi V8, but having an extra 100 horsepower doesn't seem fair. But if they got a Toyota Avalon TRD Edition (320hp supercharged V6), then it would be equal.

One thing I know about Toyota, they don't always win races, but they are never afraid of being pushed too their limit, again and again, and they still don't break down.
@MrTrip3ace

I think it would had been a little more even mashup if the 300 didnt have AWD. It would have made the 300 cheaper than the two and most likely the faster. The AWD makes it slower and heavier, as well as more expensive.

BRIAN BUTZ The parts where you talk a complete load of horseshit so that would be everything you typed. Wheelspin and full rph power, blah blah - you come across as a dumb kid who played too much need for speed. Reality check - spinning tyres doesn't go faster. Also in every car I've ever been in or seen tested, pressing the go faster buttons either does nothing or makes it go faster. Somehow you "know" it would be 1.5s faster if only they had thought to switch to the less sporty mode. What a douche.
@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 лет назад
BRIAN BUTZ Yes you are full of shit In a shitty car like Chrysler 300 pressing one button isn't going to fucking make it 1.5 seconds faster. All sport mode does it sharper throttle and steering response and in some cars hold the gear just a tiny bit longer. It can never make more than .2 - .5 second difference. Maybe in a Ferrari sport button would make a big difference. But not in a over weight Chrysler junk.

Nathaniel Rudolph buying a chrysler product is a very bad investment, you should do some research on companies reliability ratings and resale values
@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 лет назад
Nathaniel Rudolph Really? The point of 8 speed is so the car can be more fuel efficient, and even with just a 6 speed the Avalon is still more fuel efficient. As for more power, that's useless in this case because Avalon is still faster. All you're getting in the 300 that you don't get in Avalon is AWD. Have you seen the crash test videos of 300/Charger? Their build quality is so shitty that the entire navigation unit pops right out because the interior is nothing but plastic. Avalon is loaded with leather and soft touch materials.
@Natethegreat200c
@Natethegreat200c 9 лет назад
Rizwan Javed the Chrysler 300 is still a better car. look at the specs. there are no avalons on the road. I see at least 5 300s even when walking to the corner store. the charger is soft touch materials. u sound a little off, and the 300 whole interior is leather -__-. and just the part around it pops out because that part is plastic .

@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 лет назад
Nathaniel Rudolph Yes 300 is everywhere and that's because it is very cheap and affordable because just about everyone in america has someone in family or friends working for Chrysler. Go to any high school and have the kids have a 300 or Charger. If you have a 300/Charger no one will give a fuck because they are so common and even McDonald workers have it. The simple way to know what the better overall car is to look at the resale value. I swear my mom and brother in law used to work for Chrysler and they told me to never get any Chrysler product no matter how good of a deal it may sound like, because they use the cheapest materials possible.

AWD looses 30HP from that 300HP and makes it much slower since the it has to power both the front and rear axles. Plus the 300HP is at the crank and at the wheels the real HP is 220HP. If this race was between a RWD 300 and the same Avalon, the results would have been different. I have the 300 and my wife has the Toyota. I like them both for different reasons.

I would have to differ with you on that assessment. The Toyota is a better aesthetically designed car than the Chrysler in this case. The Avalon is well designed and built work of art in comparison to the Chrysler which is soulless and bland and has the looks of a stick of margarine.
@petelebu
@petelebu 8 лет назад
BeverageGuzzler oh come on man, with a better interiour and a better rear you could put a mercedez or rolls royce badge in it and everybody would call it "the car of the year" the front of the chrysler looks FANTASTIC and the avalon looks like your typical asian power ranger asian crap.
@BeverageGuzzler
@BeverageGuzzler 8 лет назад
petelebu But we're not reviewing a Mercedes Benz and a Rolls Royce here. The cars that we're specifically talking about are the Toyota Avalon and the Chrysler 300, so how is it that you've brought up these other brands of cars in the equation here ? and if you really think that a stick of margarine on wheels is the definition of fine design aesthetics or as you've put it as "FANTASTIC" then I really have to question your taste and mental state here. It appears to me that you have an all out bias toward the Toyota brand given the particular vernacular that you've expressed in reference to the brand. Your mind is already made up here, but it seems that it's not based on critical assessment but rather of the old nationalistic "Buy American" jargon which is not rational and not of intelligent constructive critical thought in any sense.

Roman, Andre, thanks for another review but I cant help but notice that the Chrysler had awd. Traditionally that would hinder straight line acceleration right? Why not try one without the awd? I bet it would be quicker. I understand you are trying to only compare V6 to V6 but i think it would be good to mention that there is a V8 option. I own the Hemi in the 2015 and I think you guys should compare that engine model with other German/Asian manufacturers cars. I think it would be a lot closer then people would tend to think.

Steve Hoffmann AWD is the more preferable drivetrain in any 0-100 km/h test. Better distribution of power to all wheels and better launch, hence why most super cars have AWD (Bugatti, Huracan etc.)
@8654ZuluFoxtrot
@8654ZuluFoxtrot 9 лет назад
WuWei Xu My comment is specific to the 300 specifically. This vehicle performs much better in the RWD configuration and is vastly more popular. I could care less how a "Bugatti, Huracan etc." performs since this comparison was between a 300s and Avalon. If you really want to get specific, the OP states he's not using the race track because you would never drive these on a race track. If you are holding to this logic then why the heck is he drag racing a luxury sedan? Compare the interior, the roominess, the ride, how they handle turns, how they handle bumps and uneven road conditions, etc. So yeah, this was stupid from the start.

Well, Roman, that was a good review, but comparing the braking performance of both cars you said that the 300S is 500 pounds heavier than the Avalon. Nevertheless, your tests show that the 300S did 60-0 in 119.6 feet, while the Avalon did 60-0 in 123 feet. IMHO, the 300S have better brakes, right? Next time, try to compare same configurations, both cars with one powered axle, RWD vs. FWD, not AWD vs FWD. In that way we'll see if the results are more accurate, by comparing apples to apples. The weight and drag of AWD in the 300S doesn't help at all to the 0-60 performance.

@RizwanJaved26
@RizwanJaved26 9 лет назад
Charles Requa Even if 300 was RWD it would still lose because Avalon is made of aluminum so it's still going to be much lighter. Plus the 8 speed in the 300 is shitty as fuck. 8 speed serves two purposes, MPG and acceleration. With 8 gears cars can spread the gear ratios better keep RPM's very low in normal driving. RWD 300 gets 31 MPG highway so Chrysler definitely achieved the MPG part. As for acceleration, with 8 speed the gears can be spread so that when the car shifts into 2nd 3rd etc., the RPM's don't go any lower than 5,000. In a lot car cars with just a 6 speed or 5 speed the RPM's drop by too much and that really kills the performance because at 4000 RPM most cars are out of their power band. In this Chrysler, even with 8 speed, RPM's drop by way too much so the 8 speed is useless in terms of acceleration. I have a Lexus LS460 and it was the worlds first car to have 8 speed. I have 0-60 video on my channel. When it shifts into second RPM's stay at 5000 and it pulls hard all the way.

They ride nice, handle well get great fuel mileage for such a large car and we could not be happier with our Chrysler 300's, they are great cars! I would never trade my Chrysler 300's for a Toyota, no way!!

Everybody ragging on the chrysler needs to realize it's basically a late 90's early 2000's Mercedes... The 3.6l is an award winning engine that's in well over a million cars and the 8 speed transmissions are German zf transmissions with no major issues. You can buy a well equipped 300 Touring in 2018 for $23k with 20 inch wheels and the sport appearance package, another $1000 buys an extended warranty. So for $24k you get a 300hp Mercedes with a 100k mile powertrain warranty....

Just FYI ALL car brands nowadays build cars to last and everyone stuck on this "American cars are garbage" crap are just being ignorant. Both of these cars will last 300k

jeepster1231 It's actually quite the opposite. Cars were build to last just a while ago, newer cars are mostly fragile plastic tubs.

The only reason people talk the BS about Honda and Toyota being better is because middle aged and old women usually buy them. They don't drive hard as most men. Take care of any vehicle it'll last you point blank.

I'd love to see a comparison between the Toyota Avalon and the Lexus ES 350, since the Avalon is Toyota's top of the line car and the ES 350 is the entry level Lexus. Would be interesting to see if the extra dough is worth buying the Lexus or not. They even share the same 3.5L V6.

"Nobody takes these cars to the race track." Then how come you guys are doing a drag racing comparison between these two cars? It just doesn't seem relevant to these cars in my opinion. It would be like me taking a Huracan and a 650s and seeing which one can fit more groceries in it. No one cares.
@Lucky8s
@Lucky8s 9 лет назад
Alex Connor They're just doing a 0-60 mph test, something that people care quite a lot about. Imagine getting on the freeway, you would definitely want a vehicle that gets to 60 faster so that you can merge safely.
@BeanieNinjay0
@BeanieNinjay0 9 лет назад
It the 0-60mph time mattered so much to people, then why is it that car companies tend to have greater volume in sales contributed by the lower tiered vehicles? It certainly does not entirely rely on the cheaper price these types of vehicles sell at because within each category or niche in the car market, there is ALWAYS an alternative that meets at least one or more of your needs. Acceleration tends to be at the bottom of the list with the general population.

Great cruisers both! Get your car at Interstate Toyota. Take those down I-25 to 104th, and test how well they do w/ stop and go bumper to bumper; foot always on the brake, or can you put it in 1st w/ auto cruise...and not so many foot brakes? (I used to live across I-25 on 52 @ Wyndahm Hills 👍)

Lyndon McMillion all avalons use the same engine and transmission, are you telling me I have to buy the HEMI to beat this 6 cyl avalon with less gears? There is a reason why Toyota doesnt change this engine, its reliable, smooth, and still faster in (in real world) than most modern engines

keri ellerbe You're correct, the 2GR-FE in this and all the Camry's ranging back to 2006 don't have direct injection. The 2GR-FSE in many Lexus modes is the same motor with direct injection and slightly higher compression from memory making up to 233kw & 378N.m opposed to 200kw & 336N.m. The 2GR-FE makes another 4-6kw when running 95 octane opposed to 91 (Aus ratings). Mohammad Sadiqi

Why do you guys deem it necessary to "build" power in a car with traction control that can't truely be turned off... You just lost 2 seconds trying to do a launch like you were driving a manual...THROTTLE BY WIRE.

Actually brake-torquing usually slows down cars that aren't performance oriented, and if you're going to compare a 300 to a fwd avalon, at least compare it to the lighter rwd. Other than that, great video although track laps would have been awesome considering these are family sedans that nobody takes to the track, cause thats what cool about it :P
@Neanderthal75
@Neanderthal75 6 лет назад
why didn't they use the RWD 300S? AWD actually ruins torque, trying to distribute equal power to all wheels.
