The 2015 Civic Type R’s 7:50.63 seconds lap time of Nurburgring is unmatched in the front-wheel drive hot hatch class. This lap time was achieved during the development test in May 2014 by a contracted pro test driver.
So you're telling me this car is as fast as the Murcielago, M3 CSL, and the 997 Carrera S on the Nürb ? This thing is actually faster than the M4 on the Nürb ? Just 2 seconds slower than the M3 GTS ? The lap time difference between the C63 BS and that/ The Megane RS 275 rophy-R and that is the same ? That's mind-blowing. Wtf ?!
HondaVideo I know i know. But you truly understand what it means when you go to the damn Nürb lap time list, and you see all these cars ! This thing shits on an M5 in a track, with 1/2hp. Seriously. My mind is *ucked as hell ! I don't believe it Honda, i don't believe it. I can't believe it. I mean i really have to put great effort to put that in my mind. Now everytime i'll see i'll be like "Wtf ?!" Damn what a car ! I don't know the figures of the NSX, but for now, this amazes me 10x more than an NSX. And it's "only" 30k euros for that level of performance ? With great fuel consumption ? and i presume awesome liability ? DAMN
The only reason it ran that fast was because it was on competition tires. Those cars you listed that is was "faster" then were all production models on their factory street tires. If you put competition tires on them they would destroy this time.
@@Joshuafree321"of pets"... this honda with 2.0l engine is fast and multi purpose car, 5 seats car, daily driving car, etc, etc. The cars you listed are not even by far better than honda. All of them have bigger engine then 2.0L, only two seats, going only fast, that's it, nothing else. Buying honda you have many cars in one. This is what Honda doing, put many cars together in one and give it to you, for reasonable price. I hope you understand what i am saying.
As a Honda fan since my first car, I am so proud Honda made this. It proves I was not wrong in the first place believing in Honda. ( please God, I hope you are working on new S2000 / S660 models
You know what I'd love to see? Something that Honda never touched on ! Let us get something like an S2500-3000 that has a ( PICTURE THIS ) 2,5 - 3,0L Naturally Aspirated, Straight-6 Engine. 6 Cylinders, revving to 9.000 RPM as the old S did. Honda, if you are there somewhere, know that, THIS WOULD MELT OUR MIDNS. WE NEED a Honda VTEC Straigh-6 Naturally Aspirated engine.
Neil Leisenheimer maybe they are working on something ( they are definitely working on something ) but if that something is Hybrid, and AWD, and Turbocharged as I heard, I want it to be called something else. Yeah they might make an entry level sports cars, something to go in between the S660 and NSX, but it shouldn't be called the S2000. The S2000 should be a car, ONLY RWD, ONLY N/A, ONLY Roadster, with ONLY two seats, and ONLY High Revving. Nothing else. The Name is a Legend. Only give it to another Legend.
I can clearly see what Honda has just done. "Haters haters, you hate us? Well you will no more, we will blow your minds out! No more slow and underpowered cars, you want hardcore? We give you the 306 BHP and 295 LB-FT Type R " I always knew Honda had the ability to make amazing cars, it's just that their philosophy up until now has been different, it was all about being subtle and having an NA engine that makes good power, but not amazing power. They were more focused on having amazing handling capabilities and dynamic. Unfortunately, this is not what the market desires and they can't make profit on that, so they were all out with no compromise.
They were focusing on handling and dynamics, yet were always outclassed by Europeans in those specific areas. Go watch japanese reviews of Megane RS and see what they say when they compare it to their cars.... Ironic, this Honda is faster than Megane and Leon only because it has more power. 35hp more, is about the only thing that made it 4 seconds faster on a 20km long track. Not to mention the Honda actually has far more than 300hp, it's clearly tuned. Watch the Megane lap and Civic lap side by side and start the from the same point, you'll see how much faster the Civic is in the straigh line and how the Megane catches up on braking and trough corners. This Civic has over 350hp, guaranteed.
derbigpr500 There are and will always be haters for everything regardless of facts. You're talking like people are totally rational being who do everything for a good reason. And by the way, I think you're one of them too. If you were actually a real car enthusiasts, you would appreciate every car for what it is, all I see is you bashing the Honda in that last comment. So what if it isn't the best, it's much better than before and we Honda lovers love it. No one said it was the absolute leader and master of the ring.
maybe..with 310ps it isnt so difficult...dont forget the megane and cupra has only 270-285.....and its a "development" car, so maybe stronger than the serial version..and lighter and blabla....this vid absolutely not relevant (and shouldnt be official) and just a hoax
so maybe megane & Cupra should prepare stronger car and try to beaT H? it is not forbidDen to develope your products. BTW megane was in not so basic version as I know they cooperated with Akrapovic...
Okay this Honda is nice, but the Megane is pretty old, don't forget that. The Megane 4RS will have the crown back ! La France règnera toujours dans le domaine des tractions :D
Honda is always about going green. Honda will always enjoy making cars with great drive-ability with low fuel consumption but Hondas soul rests deep within the racing realm and its heart is alive at 9k rpms and above. When Ferrari released the 348 in 1989, Honda released the NSX in 1990 with 2 less cylinders, .4 less litres of displacement, a lower price tag and it didn't break like the rest of the super cars. It was also faster-- can't leave that out. Honda will be happy and green until you flaunt your machismo in their territory then the little Honda demon wakes from it's sleep and runs lose on the track.
as a former DC5 owner, driver, autox, track enthusiast, all I can say is wow to the on-power steering geometry and steering in general. that wheel was hardly ever cranked over 110 degrees, left or right. my dc5 would have to crank over 180 just to get on a freeway cloverleaf at 70mph. i'm sure race soft compound had something to do with it too and a torque sensing differential. not just a regular 1.5 or 2.0 diff. looks like an awesome drive.
glad you pointed that out because almost no one takes that into consideration because lack of knowledge of such. steering geometry is very important in a fwd car and obviously this car has great geometry!
for a FF car to have so much grip at high speeds at minimal steering angles is awesome geometry. unless the steering is electronic with a TRACK/RACE function, to make the rack and pinion a higher ratio from lock to lock, thus reducing steering angles. also if the front is McPherson strut, I assume the hub is redesigned as well to maintain lower A arm angles during compression and rebound and/or the steering rack as been relocated lower in the engine bay to reduce the steering ackerman and angle of the tie rods. this is all speculation on my part but to redesign the civic, these design ideas must have been corrected.
As a Mugen R owner I am very much looking forward to having a go and getting the new type R!! Well done honda!! Can't wait for the Mugen version of this!
Thanks for adding the edited version so we don't have to listen to people cry like baby's because they can't admit that honda just laid down an epic lap time.it happened so get over it period.
Very impressive. 145 MPH up the hill. That's probably the most surprising thing about this video. Thanks a lot for bringing it to the States guys! Oh wait...
yeah, i thought the same..this one should has spec tires and increased psi..and without AC...or hifi...and maybe around 380ps, so its not a serial one.....i can call that cheat, but everyone cheating there (and thats annoying). one thing sure, the current civic is ugly as hell.
Dear Honda , I own JDM EP3 Honda Civic EP3 Type R Championship White, I'm from Aruba thank you Honda for letting us have all of your cars here, I'm Saving Money now for the New Civic Type R FK2
Makes 300 ft lb at 2,500 rpm, this motor is amazing and pulls so strong trough out the power band. That is why this car is so strong. The motor is not making max power at a certain rpm, it is making max power almost from idle to 6,500. This is truly amazing, they should have done a twin turbo v8 with this technology for the nsx, v8, twin with 650hp, 600 ft lb at 2,800 would have been the leader in all test
The mystery may be explained because this is a development car and it also has a rollcage. The stock type r has an extra stiffened chassis. They welded some parts extra. I mean, a hardcode suspension in combination with the tyres this car has some serious wtcc technology as a factory standard. I would immediately buy it if it only had rear wheel drive and a bit more decent look.
GTR is DOHC so it's has 6*4 valves = 24 Valves, Civic is also DOHC so it's has 4*4 valves = 16 Valves. So the civic should be 8 less valves. Probably you meant 2 less cylinder
Hats off to Honda - they started doubting if it was possible in the media and then they had already broken the record. Honda - let's hope this just the start of more exciting cars to come!
So I see Honda does still know how to build fun to drive. With what we are getting in the US I wasn't so sure anymore. Honda, don't follow Toyota's lead and give up sporting, fun to drive, engaging automobiles to build transportation appliances. The bits and pieces are there; SH-AWD, awesome manual transmissions, great engines. You just need to bring back great suspension and informative steering. The people that buy Toyota's don't know what fun to drive is (either they have forgotten or never knew) and so they reach for their cell phone to distract them from the "chore of driving" because they don't know about "the joy of driving".
You can always import it from Europe. With the weak euro and strong dollar it should be a good deal. Which makes it stranger why Honda has decided to not offer it in the States, at the current exchange rates they could profit immensely. Awesome car, by the way! Great to see Honda making drivers cars again!
+dB I doubt awd is a good option for a 300hp track car. It will probably bring more weight than gains. I dont' think the awd Focus will beat that time.
I don't know what sorcery is this, but I can't believe I just watched a FWD turbo hot hatch pull off a 7:50:63 time on the Nurburgring, with video proof to boot. So this car basically had a roll cage for safety, and had the AC / radio / whatever removed to compensate for the weight of the cage, but everything else was bone stock right off the factory floor? How much rigidity does the roll cage add to the car?
Sasuke Amaterasu I realize there are plenty of hatches running under 8 min there, but how many from the factory? As someone else stated, this time is ahead of some exotic super cars. I would just like to know what tires were on, that's all. Because the level of consistent grip it's getting does not seem on par with any street tires. I guess the possibility that they developed some crazy new tire technology just for a civic might be possible, but I'm gonna hold my breath. Does it all really matter, not really. The fact that you could at most change tires and run a time like this is fantastic. But claiming records without sharing all the details seems a bit shameful. Maybe Honda didn't really claim a record, idk, that's just what a lot of "news" sites are publishing.
Why do you and everyone else say the car doesn't have a/c p/s or radio? You can look into the car and see it has a navigation screen and climate control. I think you just want to believe all that so you can have an excuse of why the car is this nice instead of just accepting it is that fast compared to it's competitors.
This 306-hp, 168 mph, FWD four door is quicker than: 560-hp 200mph BMW M5, 425-hp BMW M4, 661-hp 199-mph SL65 AMG.. and just TEN SECONDS slower than the 1001-hp 253 mph Bugatti Veyron around the nurburgring. Blows your mind away!
When this comes out, this thing is gonna be a "game changer" and will be trouble for all those 350z,370z, g35,g37, bmws, "rx7s and supras" "subaru sti, mitsubishi evos etc.
I have a lot of faith in Honda but when I heard it beat the C5, GTR, and Gallardo I thought I was being lied to. This is amazing, keep pushing forward Honda!
Nice time! Proper understeering in some corners and it looks like he/she missed the last corner as the film cut just as it was understeering off the track and all up a sudden they were back on line again.
Honda has achieved a very high level of aerodynamic efficiency with this car. There is the similarly powered WRX Sti for comparison watch?v=2To_5XjIaMk . The Civic is significantly faster both in the high speed corners and on the straights! The rear diffuser (and the overall aero package feeding it) is really doing wonders to provide the down-force without compromising drag. Amazingly the car achieves this without being too low (no scraping over curbs). Engine noise is quite subdued in the cockpit, it feels serene and purposeful. Admittedly I miss the frantic high rpm wail, but times are different, and in the end, one can't argue with numbers. Looking forward to learning more about the engine when details come out.
While I reserve final judgements until the production car has its run, I think it is fair to say that this new Type R has some awesome performance. Hopefully this is a sign that Honda is on its way back.
So has anyone noticed they started the time right before turn 1 and finished the time right after the last turn? There are a few seconds missing there. Honda, what do you have to say about this?, unless that how ALL the times are done...
So Honda, when are you going to bring this car to the states? the Si not a suitable substitute. Subaru brought the STi, Mitsubishi brought the EVO, Nissan brought the GT-R, Your the only Japanese company that is still holding out on us and not bringing your range topping performance car!
Am I the only one to notice that the +R mode is not activated in this lap ? If I'm correct , this means that Thai car can actually be faster with its stock format. When the +R function is activated the white rings turn red and the +R logo appears on the dash ... I'm yet to spot both in this video
If only this video include the cam for the driver's foot and tach meter. Then it'll be better. It'll be fun to see the tach meter of a high revving Type-R engine
Awesome lap, but again with a little bit of a sour aftertaste because it's a year old development car. Aside from the tire- and weight questions there were surely made some changes between this and the final production car today. Of corse it could also mean they improved it and it's even faster now, but on the other side it's also viable to assume that things were tuned down to lower the cost and end-price. For example cheaper cooling choices and in exchange tuned down engine, Aerodynamic changes (just compete the 2 Prototypes from last year with the final model) etc. etc. Nonetheless awesome lap, I would have definitely bought one if they stayed with the design of the 2 prototypes.. now i'll wait for the Focus RS or an announcement for the Megane 4 RS to follow up my Megane 3 RS
That's a very impressive lap for a front wheel drive car. A true testament that FWD cars are not the pedestrian, under steering boxes they used to be. However, I am curious though as to the timer stopping at the beginning of the Start/Finish instead of near the pit lane exit where the timer started. Or I may have just looked at it wrong.
Honda back at it again crushing egos & hurting feelings of haters. Y'all can keep your paddle shifters and overpriced cars. This is a real car! Keep up the good work Honda!
Seeing as this is a manual only car and only 4% of cars sold in the US have a manual gear box, I can see why they don't really wanna release here in the states.... but man do I want one.
Check this out : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N%C3%BCrburgring_Nordschleife_lap_times . This Civic is faster than the 2008 stock GTR R35 with stock tyres and is only 7 seconds slower than the 2010 GTR R35 ! Wtf ??? For those who said this test was made with track tyres, I'm 99 % sure that the test was made with 235/35 R19 street tyres specially developed by Continental for this Type-R. As an owner of 00' S2000 Ap1 and 98' Integra Type-R DC2 , i'd like to know from Honda, the weight of the production model Civic Type-R . I'd like very much to know the power/weight ratio of this car ! So please reply Honda ! Thanks !
