2015 Dodge Charger SE - Driven Review

The Dodge Charger is one of the most impressive cars on sale to wear a badge from an American company. It features a relatively sophisticated suspensions setup, a rear-wheel drive architecture like its German rivals, and if you order it with the 707 horsepower Hellcat V-8, it is the fastest and most powerful production sedan in the entire world.
When I got word that I was getting one of these big American sedans to test, I got excited at all the possibilities. Could I get a Hellcat model? Will it have the Hemi V-8? Will the new styling for 2015 look as good in person as it does in photos? All of these thoughts were running through my head as the mostly bone-stock V-6 Charger rolled into my driveway.
I am not ashamed to say that I was a little disappointed that I had been given the rental-fleet special rather than a fire-breathing V-8, but I was still prepared to give this car a fair shake. After a full week and several hundred miles, would this car be worthy of the Charger name, and is it worth your money?
You’ll have to read on to find out my full thoughts, but I can say that my final verdict on the Charger surprised me.

You nailed it. This generation of Chargers is such a great thing. I don't care for the dramatically bland styling change they gave it in 2015 but at least they didn't ruin the experience. It's a car that surprises you with its handling, mpg's, practically luxurious cabin quality and most importantly value for the dollar. Definitely a car that you can't help but fall in love with as the days and miles go by.

Josia Evans are the going to change the car design?

I'm pretty sure the charger will look different in 2019 or 2020. The suspension will be redesigned in the front. The whole car will look noticeably different. There will definitely be a turbo or supercharged V6 and the V8 might only be offered for SRT versions. Also, there will probably be a hybrid version sooner or later, and just as possible, there could be a plug in electric version. But to better answer your question, whenever they do redesign the charger it will definitely be a lighter car and possibly a little bit smaller, unfortunately

That's 100 more ponies than the 2009 SE I own haha. It's all uphill for me, and I love how you gave it a chance not being a V8. I'm certainly considering sticking with the Charger. Great review.

Thanks. I always try to give every car a fair shake, or a few hundred miles on the road, at least. You never know which cars might surprise you, and this is a perfect example. I think the V6 charger is a great machine.

great vid bro!!! would you prefer the charger over the honda civic?? *serious question lol*
@Moeferd
@Moeferd 9 лет назад
+tu lee Those cars are sooooo far apart, that it would be hard to make a suggestion. The Civic is more fuel efficient, cheaper to buy and run, and Honda has a better history for reliability. The Charger is obviously much more powerful, faster and larger. That said, if it was my money, and they were both the same price, I wouldn't even look at the Honda. I want horsepower and RWD. The only thing the Charger doesnt have is a clutch pedal. Of course, if you are looking at the Civic Si, I don't know if I could choose between the two.

+Christian Moe so ive decided not to get a civic, but then now im torn between the 2015 accord and 2015 charger, i love the accord but the charger is still in my mind, i just hope the charger is as reliable as the accord...theyre both v6, so.....help me out lol, and thanks for the reply. just if you could choose between the 2, which would you go for as of being reliable, gas efficient, power, maintenance etc.

I feel he just keeps trying to cover why this isn't such a bad car... Yeah it's a nice car and everything but resale value will be really bad on almost any base model car. Just wait longer to get a nicer model

I purchased a 2014 Base Model Charger in October, the only complaint I have about it is that antiquated 5 speed Auto Stick. I had a sunroof installed in it a few days ago. Other than that it is enough power for me. I dont need leather in it. Not a good thing to have when its hot.
@mikexcanxjerk

What is your monthly payments ? And did you do 0$ down ?
@keonjenkins1852
@keonjenkins1852 8 лет назад
+mikexcanxjerk Ill put it to u like this, the payments are low for a Charger. Because it was a rental car. Technically I still bought it within the same model year it was purchased but it had 26000 miles on it. So I saved alot of money. I didnt put any money down.
@mikexcanxjerk
@mikexcanxjerk 8 лет назад
So your paying like 250- 300$ a month ? How's your interest rate ?
@keonjenkins1852
@keonjenkins1852 8 лет назад
+mikexcanxjerk Yeah just about, interest rate is in the single digits. If u want the V8 they will make you pay for all those extra options. The messed up part is between the V6 and V8 Hemi is only a difference in 78 horsepower. You gonna pay an extra 3000 to 5000 in options with the V8.
@dsalaz04
@dsalaz04 8 лет назад
+Keon Jenkins Yes but you're paying that much more for a LOT of options. It's like a whole different car

Best review of the Charger on here......sure, most want a V8 and more options. The question I wanted to know was, could you save a lot of money and still get a fun, sporty car. He answered that for me.

Very fair review of the Pentastar v6. I have a 17 Charger SXT Plus which is basically better optioned than the RT and is fun as anything. Oh... and 33.4 mpg on my last 500 mile road trip.

Hi, I'm from UAE. I already own an SUV. Additionally, I would like to buy economical sports car and my choices are Genesis coupe, charger, Mustang and camaro. I would prefer to go with base models. kindly advise.

i love my 2013 model, this model doesn't have the muscle look to it at all. It looks like a full size dodge dart. The interior is cool but the outside kills it. 2015 r/t looks nice though but honestly they're trying to get people to buy the challengers for the muscle look now. Everyone's buying chargers so the developers are forcing people to buy it lol.

I said the 2015 looks like a full size dart. I own a 2013 charger so I know the difference.

So, I've been looking at the Charger SXT, Subaru WRX and Ford Focus ST. My local dealership has a 2015 Charger SXT for about 26K. The WRX I would want is around 32K and I can get a Focus ST for around 26K. I know these are all different cars, but since you've driven the Charger and STI, I was wondering what your opinion was regarding what I should buy. I'd appreciate your input. Love your reviews. Good job!
@Moeferd
@Moeferd 9 лет назад
Firstly, the WRX and the STI are not the same machine. Apart from the bodywork, they share very few parts. I like the WRX a lot, but I feel the STI is just too expensive and not worth the money. I loved the Charger a lot. Its a great car, with a lot of room and plenty of character. I've yet to drive the Focus ST, but I hear good things. If the charger is the cheapest, it seems like an obvious choice to me. That said, if you like the Focus, go drive the Fiesta ST. It's smaller, but it's almost dead even with the Focus on power to weight, and most agree that it's even better to drive, plus it's cheap. I've seen good ones go for less than 20k on the dealer lot.

You're picking from 3 slow cars. Just get a Charger R/T you can find one for $33k and get so much more of a car than the subaru and ford.

get the charger sxt. Best looking sedan ever! you'll appreciate its performance. My friend has 2011 charger and trust me it is not slow! it feels like a fucking rocket when you hit the gas pedal good!

Do prefer red vs awd in the dodge charger. I'm seriously considering the Dodge charger but on the fence about which option. The hemi does not come with awd. However the v6 does. I live in NY city. Suggestions
@Moeferd
@Moeferd 9 лет назад
Id skip the AWD. Just get a good set of dedicated winter rubber. AWD only help with traction going forward. Good rubber helps with stopping and turning as well. Get the RWD, get a cheap set of steel wheels winter rubber, and have fun.
@tube1906
@tube1906 9 лет назад
i see your point. the only issue is storage for those winter tires when not in use.
@Moeferd
@Moeferd 9 лет назад
keith linton It can be an issue, especially if you don't have a garage, but there are lot of major tire retailers that will store your winter tires for you. Its worth looking into. For my money, the tires are much cheaper than the extra cost of AWD, plus the extra fuel used by an AWD car. Once you add in the fact that the winter rubber is much safer and performs better than AWD cars on All-Season rubber, it seems like a win-win to me. The only issue is initial cost for tires and storage. Please let me know if you have any other questions or thoughts. I am always happy to help.
