The immigration checkpoint of laos between china seems much more relaxing . A lot of big trucks coming from china to laos just like malaysian big trucks coming to singapore.
Many questions I would like to ask you mate : were you driving a car registered in Thailand? If yes, how did you manage to cross the Chinese border with the Thai car? Paperwork? Documents needed? I really need help with that as I m planning something similar for 2017. Cheers!
Chun Wang this video was cool exspelly the tunnels of china and the mountains of china are cool I liked how you went from driving on the left in Thailand to loas driving on the right after customs pretty cool. Also I did not know there were palm trees in china.
+Chun Wang Chinese cars will no longer be afforded easy entry to Thailand starting in late May or June. Advance permission will be required, as well as only allowing driving in the border province entered. You are right about Vietnamese restrictions on cars entering their country.
+Chun Wang Good thing you drove to Bangkok when you did because starting very soon (possibly in a few weeks) Chinese and other foreign registered cars will be banned from driving in Bangkok. Chinese campervans and motorcycles will also be banned from entering Thailand altogether, while Chinese cars (such as yours) will require 10 days advance notice to enter, payment of a nominal entry fee, submission of travel itineraries and a one hour traffic orientation and temporary driver's licence if you don't have an international driver's permit useable in Thailand. Even once you've managed all those requirements, driving permission will only be for the border province entered (for example Chiang Rai or Nong Khai). To drive beyond that, you'll need a guide. 2 or more vehicles travelling together in a convoy will need a police escort and guide. These changes will probably be in place by April or May.
+Chun Wang The new rules will be implemented on May 23rd. No more Chinese cars will be allowed to drive to Bangkok, while any Chinese cars wanting to enter Thailand will need advance permission and be limited to the border province entered, as I have pointed out below.
I would like to drive to Kuala Lumpur to Boten next year in Feb but I would like to know the documentation for the laos customs to bring my car in? Could you please let me know what were the documents required to drive into Laos?
+Chun Wang I heard is difficult to bring foreign car into China, and can't drive far from the border. Another thing is International driving license not valid in China.
+Chun Wang Thank you Chun Wang. I am trying to get more details if I can drive into Jinghong from Boten now but the chances seems to be very slim. If you have any details would be greatly appreciated.
+Chun Wang Thank you and I just got back from the trip. The border crossing was smooth without any problem, actually it was easier than getting into Thailand from Malaysia.
+powastick No did not manage too even trying to get a Chinese help in Luang Prabang. Documentation need to be submitted 2 months before crossing. We got to Boten, the border post within Laos but this area is mainly administered by the Chinese as Yuan seems to be the official currency here, even petrol.
damn the roads of Laos is worse than Cambodia's roads and in Australia, when i got my P1 Driver Licence i drive from Adelaide, SA to Melbourne VIC and Sydney NSW and when i came back i when through Canberra and back to Melbourne VIC and back to Adelaide SA and i already don't want to drive no further
