2015 Ducati Diavel dark. This bike is almost too badass for words. But nevertheless I try to give my thoughts on this insane and rather surprising bike.
Would love some more time with this thing and explore some better roads. But even in the short time I had with it, it made a big impression!
Again, I'm not a professional journalist of reviewer, so please don't expect a well edited, visual masterpiece. That being said, I hope you find it entertaining, if not informative.

Excellent review and just wanted to chime in with some addtional info. While the Diavel's raw performance will meet or exceed most people's expectation, the Diavel is surprisingly comfortable. I am 6' 3" and have to say the Diavel is the most comfortable bike I have owned. I really like the foot peg position for both comfort and control. My previous two bikes had forward foot controls and I cant say that I like them. For one, feet forward forces all of my weight onto my spine and two you just dont get a good feel for turns etc... Admittedly I have been drooling over the R1 and Panigale for years, but I can't get past the ergonomics of the true sport bikes. I expected the performance the Diavel gave me, but the surprising comfort and attention to driver ergonomics ultimately sold me on the Diavel. I started out riding on a Suzuki GS500 20 years ago and then had a Ninja 600 followed by a Harley and then a Yamaha Roadstar Warrior. I sold my Warrior in 2011 and was out of riding until I discovered the Diavel in late 2015. I purchased my 2015 Diavel Dark in June of 2016 and have been thoroghly impressed. I put 1,000 miles on mine in 4 days last summer. While the last day was rough, it is surprisingly comfortable over a 250-300 mile ride. The Brembo brakes on the Diavel are by far the best I have had on any bike that I have demoed or owned. The bike is unbelievably nimble for its size and considering that is has that beautiful 240 rear tire. As Bennie pointed out, its not racing bike, but capable in the corners for sure. The driving modes really change the engine mapping/throttle response. Sport is just as you would expect, raw power with every bit of the 162 HP available and the hairpin throttle response you would expect of a Ducati with the 1199 Panigale engine. Touring gives you 162 HP, but smooths out the power and gives you a true cruiser feel. Roll on and roll off throttle with a deadened throttle response which is actually works very well, ecspecially when touring with a passenger. Urban mode is a 100 HP city mode. Urban is the mode I use least as I get spoiled by the power offered in sport around town. Urban does, like touring, give you a tamer throttle response and is easier to manage around town, but like I stated, you will miss the power. I skipped talking about the looks of the Diavel, becasue as Bennie pointed out looks are subjective. To me the Dark looks better than the more expensive carbon. The stock wheels look really nice to. The matte paint is actually easier to clean than gloss. I bought a bottle of Wizard matte paint cleaner and just spray on and wipe off. Some of the engine components and undercarriage are a little difficult to get to, but easy to clean once you do as it is all black powder coated material. All in all, the Diavel has been the most satisfying vehicle purchase I have ever made. After owining it for 9 months and driving 3000 miles I have no regrets. The Diavel will suit you if you want some power and performance while still getting great ergonomics and comfort. Thanks again for the video review and hope this helps anybody curious about the Diavel.

You're reviews are really fun and informative to watch. I have a 2015 Carbon White and I have to agree with pretty much everything you said. I rode my 1098 in to the dealer and rode the Diavel out after a test ride. It's just a unique and stupendously fun bike to ride.

+Zx11 One of the most fun bikes I've ridden for sure. That 1098 must've felt like a torture device by comparison!

Great review and brought back good memories for me.. As a shortarse 5ft 1" Kawasaki ninja300 rider, I popped along to my local Ducatti Center for its opening day in Manchester. Hopeing really to test ride a monster 695. On arrival there was no 695,s available only 888,s 1100,s and 1200 sportbikes and One Diavel Dark with full Termi exhust system 8))The lovely duactti sales lady talked me into going out on the Diavel with a ducatti test rider in tow with around 6 other ducatti riders on sportsbikes. It was a nice warm summers day, and not knowing what to expect from a ( cruiser ) I through my leg over and with a heave got her upright and instantly the bikes weight fell away. I started her up and the rumble and burble that came from the termi system got me quite excited lols.. I was shown the controls and the sport button ( which I left in sport mode ).. We then headed off for a 2 hour test ride around Cheshire on open dual carriageways, motorway section and plenty of twisty B roads.. I was in awe of the Diavel, what a beast and so easy to ride and comfortable.. But That Power omg I couldn't stop giggleing every time I opened it up in 2nd 3rd and even 4th from 3000 rpm it just took off reaching 8-9000 rpm in noo time and warp factor speeds pulling my little arms out of there sockets.But what surprised me the most, was the road handleing.. It was So planted through the bends and the instant power and speed I was soon over taking some of the big sports bike riders..There was no so called chicken strips on that huge 240 rear tyre when I got back to the store..Thourally enjoyed my 2 hr stint on the Diavel Dark and would highly recommend others go and try one and forget what you may think a cruiser is like to ride if never riden one.. The Diavel certainly changed my opinon..As soon as I can, I am defintaley purchaseing one I liked it that much..I would even take it on a trackday as I believe it would put some sports bikes to shame..

"It's bonkers, I absolutely love it". Me too! I would be afraid to ride on your roads. Y'all drive on the wrong side of the road. I'd end up steering right in the path of an oncoming car by accident, then pancake city. I thoroughly enjoyed the video of you zooming around. You skeered me a bit 🙈.

240 kg! That must be the wet weight, but it still sounds more than I thought it was. Are you sure you're right? Ah, 7:38; 'this bike is actually only about 220 kg.' What a fantastic video. No irritating rock music drowning the bike's engine note, no look-at-me posturing by the rider. Just riding, and riding properly. The bike appears to handle a bit like my B-King which surprises me. It looks about as fast acceration-wise. I'd actually prefer this to the King, BUT the one thing that would put me off is the reliability.

I bought my 2011 Diavel Carbon Black with 13,000 miles for $10,000 from dealership, over 2 years I put 2,000 miles on it and took it in for the 15k mile Desmo service, it was 2,200 labor and $600+ parts, just under $3,000. I decided to get 2 new tires, 2 new sprockets a new chain and a new battery, my service was over $4,000+ now. During the service(they had it for 3 months) they discovered my wire harness was kinked by the forks and was repaired already but not successfully, it was routed too tightly by the factory and it kinked every time the bars moved, over time the wires started breaking down, they said it was $3,000 for a new harness, I have an extended warranty that covered that, thank God! Next they see the clutch slave cylinder leaking and need to replace that, then the gear position sensor was damaged when they did the slave cylinder, the warranty paid the bill for the harness and slave cylinder and gear sensor, over $4,000 for the warranty company to pay on top of my $4,000+, All together my $10,000 Diavel with 15,000 miles on it required $8,000+ to be serviced. $8,000 divided by 2,000 miles = $4 a mile just in servicing the bike. If I add the bikes cost of $10,000 to the $8,000 + thats $18,000 divided by 2,000 miles = $9 per mile to date. I have had it for sale on Craigslist for $10,000 all the way down to $8,500 and nobody has even come to look at it. This is why you will see most Ducati's for sale with less than 15,000 miles on it and never serviced, the Desmo service with tires chain and sprockets and battery is $4,000+ and God forbid the wire harness needs replacement, If I had no extended warranty I would have had to pay over $8,000 to tune a $10,000 bike. 15,000 miles divided by $4,000 = $3.75 per mile for routine expected maintenance as the minimum expense you will encounter.

I think your maths needs some attention. How much was the warranty? Isn't the warranty price what you paid? So it was the service and the warranty that you paid, right? What do they sell for? Your sticker price doesn't equal sell price, so we don't actually know what the sale price is in your area. Ducati service costs scare me too. I would want some sort of guaranteed service package as well as warranty if buying a Ducati.

Another great video mate, thanks. Really enjoying your 'out of the ordinary' choice of test bikes. Problem i have is i hate the sound Ducatis make, wish i didn't but there it is. Weirdo, i know!

NilSatis No9 Thanks again. I can understand why some people don't like the sound of Ducati's. Tbh, some of them do sound a bit rough at low revs, but they do sound much better at higher rpm. But yeah, they are a bit shouty!

Bennie youve rode the diavel and the v max which one would you keep?
@benniehitchcock
@benniehitchcock 9 лет назад
+phil williams That's a tough one. I think a Diavel with the 200hp V4 motor from the vmax would be the dream combo. But if I had to choose between them as is, it would be the Diavel. It's so much lighter and dynamically its so much more capable than the vmax. I can't ignore the v4 in the vmax though.

+Bennie Hitchcock phil williams 6 hours ago Ha ha agh well-hope ive not made a mistake after watching your vid on the v max am swapping my diavel for one And after seeing it in the shop was surprised at the build quality .very impressed Can't wait to ride it . Will tell you how I get on If you ever want to do a test on the v max come to devon and take mine out

phil williams I doubt you'll be disappointed with the vmax tbh. But they're different bikes really, each with their own ideas of what a performance cruiser should be. Both are awesome in their own way. Might have to take you up on that offer one day!

Before you pick on Harley, see V-Rod.
@benniehitchcock

Tried the Vrod. Doesn't come close to the Diavel performance wise. Besides, i wasn';t picking on Harley. I was just comparing the Diavel to a typical cruiser.
@briank3754

I tested the V-Rod twice before even considering the Diavel and in every metric, including comfort, the Diavel beat the Harley hands down.
