In this video, let's take a look at the 2015 Ducati Diavel.
In the commuter category,
- The bike’s riding comfort is above average but not Honda Goldwing comfortable. You are still leaned forward a little bit, and your feet are positioned a bit to the back more like a supersport bike. Combined with vibrations and jerky moves, it earns the Diavel a 6 out of 10.
- The fuel tank is big, holding roughly 4.5 gallons of gas. but since the engine is nowhere as efficient as modern commuter motorcycles, it gets about 30mpg and you have to stop for gas regularly earning. But at least it has a nice and accurate fuel gauge, so you aren’t going to get stranded, which altogether give it a 6 out of 10.
- As far as commute-specific tech goes, the Diavel has no cruise control, no tall windscreen, ni heated grips, no navigation system, but is equipped with a keyless function for comfort and touring mode which increases fuel efficiency and decreases jerkiness of the throttle and earns a 3 out of 10.
- Storage is straight up non-existent in the Diavel. If you are planning to carry anything more than your title and registration, you should be prepared to shell out hundreds of dollars for OEM saddle bags or carry a backpack. Diavel gets a 1 out of 10
- An important factor making a bike a great commuter bike is the cost effectiveness, reliability, and dealer network. The Diavel is an Italian bike famous for expensive interval maintenance such as the desmo service that costs over 2 grand, and parts are not cheap in case of minor accidents. However, among European brands Ducati has the largest dealer network earning the Diavel a 4 out of 10.
For a total of 20 out of 50 points for the commuter category. Very surprising to see a bike advertise as a commuter bike is in fact not super good at commuting.
In the Performance Category
- The Diavel’s slight aggressive seating position means average aerodynamics and rider’s control in corners and twisties earning it a 5 out of 10
- The horsepower figure, being around 150 to 170, and the torque of around 91 pound foot of torque earns the Diavel a healthy 7 out of 10. The more horsepower slash torque, the higher the score in this category.
- The Diavel is a very heavy motorcycle at 520 lbs earning it a 3 out of 10
- In regards to the rider aid’s technology, it is limited to only Ducati’s traction control, anti-wheeling system and the ABS system earning it a 5 out of 10.
- As for the Diavel’s market position and design choices, it is a very beautiful bike and definitely eye catching. Carrying the Ducati badge ensures that everyone knows you dropped some serious cash. But it is one of the lesser known Ducati models by non-riders and is one of the most depreciating models of Ducati losing almost half of its value in 4 years, but if you can get a good used one and can get passed those few quirks, it is a great choice. The diavel earns a 6 out of 10 in the dope factor category For a total performance score of 26 out of 50

I bought a used 2015 Diavel Carbon a couple years ago after test riding one back in 2015, I love every second I'm on it! New key FOB is $200, to replace the entire hands free unit is about $2,000, according to my local Ducati dealership. Herspurs is off: sport = 162 high, tour = 162 low, urban = 100. The Desmo service is done every 18k miles, plenty of time to save up the $2k-$3k for this. And you go Ducati for the sound, the feel, the shake and rumble of the L twin!

@@rubenmarin8364 True, but it shouldn't be necessary. All of those eye-watering costs are absurd for a modern bike, especially for mere services.

My only problem with it, which is enough for me to want to trade it in, is the heat it produces at the upper right knee area. If you are stuck in traffic, that heat can be overbearing.

Not sure how you ride it without the key. On my diavel I need the key to start it. I can keep the key in my pocket so it’s no big deal.
@emadreviews
@emadreviews 9 месяцев назад
You can put the 4 digit code in and it starts up! It will however tell you the key is missing, but if you can deal with the notification on the dash, you can ride without a key on you (except when you need to get gas!)

The Desmo service scares me abit more than the power. Looking at Rocket instead. But if can do Desmo service for reasonable coin im in.

I have this very motorcycle, and I am not worried about the major service. This bike has so much more personality than the rocket three does.

There is nothing particularly exotic about the servicing. It’s a valve clearance check that takes longer. You pay for a couple of extra workshop hours.

Rode the Diavel and it is a controversial bike. The Desmo service, seating position, lack of windshield is big cons; power, looks, the engine make it unique. The weight is not really an issue because it is low sitting. This is not a sport bike by no strech of imagination. Yes, it has a Vtwin and plenty of power and torque known for Vtwins, BUT the riding position is a huge detriment for any faster and highway riding. On top of it all, the desmo service is, for most, a deal breaker. It is well said, that most can buy a Ducati, but only few can maintain it. Depending where you are, the dealer network may not be great unless, and being Italian bike and a niche model, the tech experience may be an issue. IMO, it is one of the best looking bikes out there, but also the ones that are crossing classes that are not easily crossed. Sport and cruiser bikes are two opposite ends of the spectrum and righfully so. It was a bold attempt of Ducati to make something like this, but what I got from it when I rode it, it does not work for me. You either get a cruiser, or a sport bike. You don't combine the two. Cruisers don't go fast and and sport bikes have body positioning meant to take on rapid acceleration and braking. And then, there is Desmo service on every 15K, I think, that ranges from $2K or more depending what country you are in, in Canada I think is $4K. If one is a reasonable rider it means a huge expense annually to a dealer that is hardly found. Lost time riding, less cash in pocket and lower value for sale if trying to sell to to avoid doing it- which is what most people do to those blinded by it...and blinded they very well will be.

Yep if gas mileage is of concern, you gotta look for smaller displacement engines.

Why this title??… no… that ducati diavel is really not … due to the age but most importantly the brand and the model it’s very expensive to maintain compared to a newer one. In uk atm the diavel 1260 from 2022 is somewhere around £12500 . No problem about maintaining or changing inner parts due to age. A bit of clickbait so I don’t like this…
@emadreviews
@emadreviews 3 месяца назад
This bike, used, in the US is roughly $5k. Less than half of the 1260. True though that it is more expensive to maintain but not $8k more expensive to maintain.
