Hi Adam, what were the symptoms of your truck? I am trying to figure the cause of the problems I am having and I am getting all sorts of possibilities from the vct solenoids or the cam phasers or the throttle body. I am guessing it is a sensor because it only has 55k miles and it seems like its always a sensor when it comes to these things. My truck is not throwing a check engine light and I haven't put the reader on it yet but after driving a bit and it warms up when I come to a stop the idle gets rough and then decreases rpm and now it is stalling when at a stop. I was in a f150 forum and this is a very common problem without a common answer, just alot of guesses. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

@@joelcote4651 I also have the same problem. Mine finally threw a code of P0308 (cylinder 8 misfire) and P0315 (crankshaft position system variation not learned) is what came up on my reader. Turned out the first one was addressed by the mechanic. Which ended up replacing the coil for that bank. I can only assume that the crankshaft code would be this but I’m not sure. I got it back the other day and it still idles rough and very fair only dropped RPMs like it might stall but didn’t.

@@JC-uj8nf so I have looked into this quite a bit. I thought it was the crank shaft position sensor so I changed that. I thought it fixed the problem for about 2 weeks then rough idle and stall happened again. I am now convinced it is the cam phasers. I am not a mechanic but from what I understand oil passes through the cam phasers and the passage ways in the phasers are very small so if the oil sludges up at all it clogs them and causes the rough idle. So even if you let your oil go 2k over when you should change it this can happen. Changing the phasers doesn't seem difficult except for getting to them. You have to take the head covers off and disconnect a whole bunch of stuff first. Once your there you might as well change other things like the water pump, plugs, ect. I am trying to find out if there is a way to flush the system to clean the phasers when changing the oil. You may notice if you change the oil the truck seems better for a bit then eventually gets worse. Further evidence its the phasers.

@@joelcote4651 that was my initial guess as well after searching forums for days. When he had it hooked to his scanner it showed the phaser running as they should be. I will talk with him today about the P0315 code that I had on my scanner. He never mentioned it when he originally scanned it for the check engine light. Only came up as a misfire on bank 8 which had over 800 misfires before throwing a code. I’ve also read that reprogramming the PCM helped with this issue as well. But have no clue how to do that. I assume that’s a mechanics job to do. 🤷🏻‍♂️ also did a hot oil flush and replaced the oil with semi synthetic. Said there was quite a bit of sludge which got cleaned out. Been running semi for the last couple oil changes now.

@@joelcote4651 did you ever figure it out? Having the same issues with my 16 coyote F-150 no codes about to change the crankshaft sensor. Also sometimes it has a long start before starting.

I have a 2015 F150 XLT. I’m having hard time disconnecting the wires. The other wires are in a way to reach in.

I pulled my sensor after I bought the long one that rock Auto and every other manual shows from my 2015 5.0 and it ends up being a stubby sensor? And it was in that exact location..... Now I need to return and get the stubby one... More time driving to work with cel on and terrible gas mileage and occasional no starts...

Not showing that all the inner plastic has been removed to access that. I am having a terrible time getting the sensor screw to thread back into the bell housing

Mine has a misfire on number 8, reading forums everywhere I can, replaced plugs, moved coil positions, haven't done the injectors yet, seems like this could be the solution, one guy says reprogramming/replacing the pcm solved it.
