My favorite part is the kid in the rear view mirror lol. Kidding, but actually a very helpful video. You can’t beat these as a daily because they all come with service records considering they were fleet maintained.

7:08 for the tach. I've driven both civilian explorer and Police Interceptor Utility. Police Interceptor Utility does have a higher operating speed by default. At around 65 MPH, my explorer will be around 1750 RPM.

I think the rear door handle linkage is disconnected. You just have to pop the door panels off and clip the linkage back together.

You make an excellent point about drivers mistaking civilian Ford Explores for Police Interceptor Utility. I have had a couple of all black Explorer Sport models that I thought were unmarked police vehicles. Disagree with your opinion on the Impala 9C1 being a better performing car. Very few police departments used them over the Dodge Charger, Ford Explorer PIU, Tahoe or Taurus PI. Lousy handing from comments I have read from Police Officers who drove them

All FPIU and FPIS leave the factory as fully functional vehicles so that they can use the same Explorer or Taurus line. Then they head over to the Fleet Modification Center for the application of police package options. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gr7p09HNuHM.html What this means, is if you still have the door cards with the handles, the release cable is just removed from the handle and tucked into the door. One can just remove the door card and reconnect the cable to the handle - check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hDUeIwbPfn0.html . There is also an option to disable the rear door power door locks - this is done with a connector right under the driver's side door scuff plate trim (at the driver's side floor between the seat and the door). The factory unplugs this cable if that option is selected, and it can easily be plugged right back in. the plug is called out in the modifier's guide. Third row seat is not practical. They install the rear crash member and stiffener beneath the cargo area floor, and that takes up most of what would be the leg-room in the footwell. Also, the FPIU comes stock with a full-sized spare, not a donut... That takes up the space the 3rd row seats would mount over. Finally, I want to show you this video about a rear crash test of the civilian model Explorer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iwHVzAiWvFU.html - my in-laws asked why I didn't get an Explorer with a 3rd row (so I could pick them up from the airport with everyone else in the family), so I sent this to them along with the quip: "if I got a 3rd row Explorer, I'd only ever put people in the rear row I didn't care about". This article has a fairly horrifying picture of what the rear cargo area looks like when hit at speed in the field: www.freep.com/story/money/cars/2019/02/11/ford-2020-explorer-interceptor-police-car/2782304002/ Just look how far forward that rear window frame is pressed relative to the rear doors!!!

@@Real_Tim_S know any other cool tricks for 2014-15 fpiu's?
@Real_Tim_S
@Real_Tim_S Год назад
@@chirst5874 Off the top of my head... Get a copy of Forscan, if you can, and an OBDII-to-USB adapter - you can get into all kinds of stuff in the software. Personally I've turned on the Aux port on the radio (installed a bluetooth receiver and USB-C power adapter up to the radar platform on the dash), stereo equalization software (deeper than the user controls, makes aftermarket stereos easier), tweaked how many flashes the momentary turn signal does (bumped up from 3 to 4 to match my driving style, but there is a programmable range), tuning on "LED mode" for turn signals so you don't get hyperflash, tweaked some of the rear hatch functions, parking light behavior, instrument cluster options... goes on, and on for days ;-P For suspension work, I looked at Steeda Autosports out of Florida - they have a better adjustable rear sway bar (can actually handle a loaded turn without a ton of body roll), and rear suspension linkages than factory (which are subject to a recall). I got some custom springs to account for weight from Coil Springs Specialties, LLC out of Kansas - they have the original coil spring specs thanks to my order, so you can tell them how much more weight you want the coils to support and they can make it happen. I did a full suspension job this past year - everything from the unibody out to the wheel studs is new. Rides like a new vehicle, and it's a blast. Other than that - you can use the police harnesses in the center console to "lube-up" an aftermarket remote-start (or use the low-security factory version from Ford, which you can turn on with Forscan after getting your own keys with built-in-buttons and the remote start receiver), vehicle tracking, remote shutdown, etc... I mean, the coolest thing about the police model is the ease with which the vehicle can be modified - so your imagination is the limit. As soon as I get out of California, I may look into doing a turbo and 4.2L stroker mod to the 3.7 (500HP "easy" with pump gas and a "safe" tune) - if I can't get my hands on a 2020+ FPIU hybrid first.

@slayerjohn447
@slayerjohn447 2 года назад
This depends on your area. In my area, retired cars are seen around time to time, no one really blinks at them. Plus no one overly dislikes the police by general census and riots and such are non existent. Protests happen, but nothing more. If you live in a similar area, you are going to see no issues with it. Also note, not all cars came with spotlights so if you are missing that, you could blend in as likely, no one would really notice unless they happened to know that the rims are police.

@Real_Tim_S
@Real_Tim_S 3 года назад
If it comes with the basic radio as shown, it may or may not have an aux input - but unlikely to have bluetooth. If it does not come with the aux input, it CAN be added. Look up FORSCAN and then find someone with a cable (they are available non-Ford aftermarket). Then a standard 1/8" 3.5mm aftermarket Bluetooth can be used - I've been using one of these and a USB-C charger switched from the delay-off accessory power port on the Police Modifier's plug - putting the phone sideways on the top-center of the dash. If it's the basic radio - you may only get two speakers in the front doors (no other speakers). The rear door cards may not even have the speaker positions. For mine, I found a wrecked civilian explorer and took the door cards out of that. IMHO it's a really great vehicle for an aftermarket stereo update if that was your plan from the beginning - the JL Audio Stealthbox for the Explorer fits perfectly, and on the front speakers wires they have a break-out plug in the center column to that you can separate the radio to pull out speaker level audio (to send to your aftermarket system), and then send better amplified audio out to the front doors (for better speakers). 6.5" or 6x9s in the front doors, and 6.5" in the rear doors, and those police power points become amazing aftermarket stereo power points without drilling.

Oh, you forgot to state that these have the worst headlights in the industry and Ford states there may be a recall if they get enough complaints?? Also, the replacement of the water pump will cost about $3,000. If you fail ot the agency failed to change the oil in the PTU (power transfer unit), every 31,000 miles it will fail by 80,000 miles. Beware of these costly issues. Moreover, the catalytic converters are subject to early failure
