Great review mate - Hyundai seems to have done a great job... and so have you. Would you have the time to put up some comments on the car's audio system? Does it have a sub-woofer set up? What components were used by Hyundai?

My BMW 540i just crapped out on me and although I'm sad about it, it gives me the opportunity to look around for a replacement. Now I'm seriously considering the Genesis G80 as a replacement. I will test drive this week. But your review is *so* useful because it covers a bunch of stuff I'd never consider in a test drive, such as the phone app, the trunk opening, remote starting, etc. And your other review on Android Auto convinced me that I don't really need it; I can go with the native software (which uses Google anyway!). So thanks a heap, Antonio, for this really fantastic review. I hope you're still enjoying your car! Cheers!

+Jonothun Smeeth I didn't go with the Equus is because of two reason. 1. I knew it was going to be updated as this design had been in the market for a while. 2. The Equus offers too much for me as I enjoy driving something that is mildly sporty, the Equus is to be driven in not to drive yourself.

You'll always tell a '15 from a '16 in the front from the amber DRL's instead of the LED's... One thing to note is that the camera for the ACC and Lane Keep Assist does NOT read the speed limit signs. That information is pulled from the navigation unit and if not up to date then will display the wrong info. This happened when we first got the car well over a year ago and the limits changed just before the car was released but was fixed by the next update (Which we didn't have to pay for... Thank god!)
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
Yes I wish we would have the LEDs instead...I mean, the whole thing is already there, why not use it.
@JustinKelly
@JustinKelly 8 лет назад
Antonio z Yeah I read on the forums that they changed more than you think for the '16's. Just like for the LED fog lights a '15 owner would need new wiring and new steering wheel stalk to activate.
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
Yes the LED fog lights are now an available option...which we didn't have. Go check out the difference, which is basically nothing, at the Hyundai website. I'm kind of glad they didn't make big changes

hi hope your having a good day. actually the noise I hear are not from the sunroof it's from the doors and for some reason they can't fix it they say then tighten the way the door closes we even tried loosening the way the door closes thinking it could be to tight and still nothing. the issue with the sunroof was the track that it follows some how got misaligned and they did fix that. I'm selling the car still but I'm also buying the mercedes s550 which I still got disappointed that I have to order it and it could take months since the dealer can't locate one with the options that I want but it's ok I know that the s class will be worth the wait.

Hey there I am looking to purchase soon. You said you get 24 MPG, what mode( eco, normal, or sport) are you driving in?
@Zavarcerealtor
@Zavarcerealtor 7 лет назад
Daniel Marks Hey! OK so I I get between 23 and 24 mpgs and this is in normal mode, I get a solid 24 mpgs in eco mode. Now that's I've had the car for a year and 1 month I will be doing a long term update and one of the things that I will talk about is how the fuel consumption has in fact remained great. I drive a straight up mixture of highway and city driving, to be more precise, I drive 33 miles a day and 16 of those are in clear highway driving speeds and 17 miles are in city driving with stop and go (the mornings aren't as much of a gridlock as the afternoons which sometimes it would take me 15 minutes to drive one mile...and this is common and often) So yes, after a year owning the Genesis I still stand by the numbers

Hi Antonio, I have the exact same car with black interior and LOVE it. Can't say enough good things. I've noticed however that on the outside, the bumpers and side skirts don't quite match the factory paint, can't really tell from the video but it looks like yours is about the same? Have you noticed that the front and rear bumpers and the side skirts are a little brighter? I know this is normal across many car brands, as it's tough to match plastic to metal and the bumpers are usually painted in a different facility.
@frankhujsa821
@frankhujsa821 8 лет назад
Matt, I have noticed it also. I now own and love a white Genesis and while the skirts are a perfect match, the front bumper and grille frame and rear bumper are slightly DARKER than the metal body from certain angles. If light strikes the three stage pearl at an angle, it reflects differently. If we're being honest, I think paint quality is one area that Hyundai saved a little money with this car. The paint appears thick, and nowhere near Lexus quality in the sharpness of reflection. About even with Benz, which is to say nothing special. If the slight tone variation bugs you like it bugs me, a good polish and wax helps even it out a lot. Use a carnauba wax.
@frankhujsa821
@frankhujsa821 8 лет назад
Or, maybe we should just swap bumpers :)
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
+Frank Hujsa I just saw this thred....and you're right guys, the paint does struggle. My 2014 E class was Polar white, and that was a perfectly even tone all the way through, something that I have noticed isn't the case here. Also (and the following has to do with the fact that this is a new model from the ground up) but I was going to the movies, and when I got back to the car, I saw a buckle in the front bumper and the body of the car, at first I thought I was hit my somebody...after seeing no damage, and I stared at that thing for a few minutes from every angle, I realized that the portion of the bumper was in the sun for several hours while the rest of the car was in the shade....this obviously concerned me because how in the hell a car in this league will have bumpers that buckle under sun light? I will take it to the dealer and update you guys on this....I see a replacement bumper in the future that I'm definitely not paying for (I was able to pop it back in with no problem....but still ...wtf)
@frankhujsa821
@frankhujsa821 8 лет назад
+Antonio z this sounds bad. Any updates? Where was the deformation, where the panels meet? There's body clips there that could have been compromised in your recent rear end fender bender. I don't know the exact temperature they can resist, but the body panels shouldn't expand/contract under mere sunlight. Maybe you got clipped in the parking lot but the paint didn't scratch?
@frankhujsa821
@frankhujsa821 8 лет назад
+Antonio z just did a little reading and found that automakers typically test their components for durability and deformation at between 120 and 130 degrees F. I'm actually surprised how "low" this is, but I suppose there's not much need to go higher on this planet. I know temperatures out west have approached this recently. Still, it seems more likely to be that a panel clip failed due to an impact than melting. Never mentioned it, but I appreciated the thoughtful real world review. Thanks for not focusing on skidpad numbers and Nurburgring times.

What do you think of the genesis g 90 and what will it's price be? Tempted to get a 16 but im afraid i'll be kicking myself if i don't wait.
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
So far the only vehicle that has a pre-planned redesigned is the Hyundai Equus which will be named that the Genesis g90, however, the Hyundai Genesis will remain the same in it's looks... it will just be renamed the Genesis G80 (visit www.genesismotorsusa.com for all the info ) so if your concern is about possible physical changes to the car I wouldn't worry about that...I also wouldn't worry about engine changes. ...or tech in the near future. in regards to pricing for the g90, it is expected to remain the same or a tad bit higher but still tens of thousands below its competitors.
@changedman7627
@changedman7627 8 лет назад
Thx for the reply....The g 90 may be a little out of my price range...I'll definitely look into the g 80. I generally trade my cars every 2 to 3 yrs so i'm concerned about the resale of the discontinued model more so than the upgrades to the current model..

+Antonio z hey Antonio i forgot to ask you is your car a 5.0 or a 3.8? I was looking at 3.8 2016 models, but they have so many good deals on 5.0 2015 models, might be worth getting that instead. also i have heard that the 2016 cars ventilated front seats are better i dont know if you have driven a 2016 vs a 2015 but i would like to know if you know of or noticed any differences
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
+IceTeaMan022 These are good questions and I'll answer them as best as I can. Alright, the ventilated seats situation is something that I haven't had a single issue with, I haven't experienced the difference between both year models but I don't have problems with mine whatsoever, in fact, I feel like my seats cool super fast and remain so until I turn it off. In regards a 5.0 or a 3.8....I clearly chose the 3.8 because there is no way I can reasonably explain the use of an engine that consumes so much gas, it is not a sports car and it's just too much......doesn't make sense to get it, it just doesnt. It is very "American" to get that engine when you clearly don't need it, won't be going to a track to use it (and if you did you'll waste your time because this is not a sports car) plus it will cost you an arm and a leg to fill up....that engine basically shouldn't be in the line up, but it is what it is. And last but not least, my favorite words: "Sales deals". If you see a 2015 with awesome rebates (like mine) jump on that shit and run. There is no engine difference between the new ones (and even the now Genesis G80) or a 2015, just some visual cues that you can add yourself through the dealer (like I did with the badging and the LED daytime running lights etc. ..and kaboom, now you drive a G80 that was born a Hyundai Genesis.

nice video I also have a 2015 genesis 3.8 I loved the car but a year later I find the fit and finish other so great there's a lot of wind noise that I found other have from forums and there's alot of rattles and little noises here and there that I'm very disappointed in with. I've had several issues with the sunroof getting stuck and having Hyundai have the car for days or weeks I'm just tired of everything even tho there small issues there's to many for just a year old. which why I'm selling the car only after a year
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
I'm sorry to hear this Guillermo. I will admit to the rattling and wind noise when the shade for the sunroof is open. I hear the squeaking and some odd rattling of some metal. However, I used to have a Mercedes Benz E350 with the "Panoramic Sunroof " and I had the same exact issue as this one....I ended up trading the car or for another one without this feature and the noise went away. But, why should I have to do that? why can't auto makers just get this right? I mean, it's supposed to be luxury right?and a rattling and squeaking sunroof with continuous mechanical issues is not what I'd call "luxurious"
@gherrera6665
@gherrera6665 8 лет назад
that would be a good idea to do. I know there other people with the same issues I looked on different forums and spoke to different people who have the newer genesis and for the most part they have fit and finish issues as well or different ones. maybe the new g90 will be made better but I'm seriously done with Hyundai and staying with mercedes I shouldn't have strayed off but that's what I get lol
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
I didn't have a good experience with Mercedes. let's go down the list: 2008 Gl450, 2010 E350, 2011 E350, 2011 ML 350 and 2014 E350. The Gl and ML were rattles galore, the 2010 E class left me stranded 130 miles away from home, the 2011 had the rattle issues i mentioned ....and the worst one was the 2014 E class...the drive shaft bent and I was out of a car for 37 days. Not to mention the lack of luxury you get for the price (hence I kept getting new ones each time). To finalize, I just visited the Tuscaloosa assembly plant last week, and you do over pay for the vehicles by a significant margin simply because it is a Benz. Just give it another chance! get out of this one, and get the G90. I would hate for you to get an S Class under the false pretenses that you'll be happier, because the resale value is horrible, it has the most complaints of any other large luxury vehicle in the market but somehow people stick with it because of the caché. ..I want you to love your car, not the idea of what you think you have.

@derickj1976
@derickj1976 8 лет назад
+Antonio z I agree with the updated maps from Google, but it's still not wireless for some reason. these cars are so feature and tech rich that android auto becomes and afterthought to me, so much that I barely plug it in. Also you have to keep manually downloading updates from your computer to the car so it can work properly or it doesn't work at all. The process is about an hour in total. I just wish Hyundai and Google could've simplified it a lot better, but this is Hyundai's first go at it, and the future updates will be a lil more convenient.

Ok so the sound system is very clear and powerful, as of yet I haven't had any screeching noises when blasting the volume, it feels like you're listening to a live orchestra......with that being said, the bass is almost nonexistent. ...you can easily turn it up high and the difference from zero to full on bass is negligible which disappointed me a bit. ..however, I only listen to house music and the like, so basically I feel like I'm at a rave party each time I listen to music. If I were to put hit hop or anything requiring bass as a main source of sound, it will be disappointing

That was just about the only complaint I'd have about the 2015+ model. Although they went from ~500 watts to around 900 watts, practically none of it goes to the sub anymore. It's easy enough to throw in a 100-200$ sub and get better results, but it makes no sense since the rest of the sound system is so good. They did a great job with the rest of the redesign though, everything inside looks and feels great.

+Trevor Henderson I haven't compared to the same year audi a6, but I know in a 2002ish one it wasn't good at all even compared to my 2004 maxima at the time. as for the sub, yes, what we have in the 2012 17 speaker lexicon speaker system is very well balanced and can shake seats and floors without problems. I've been in 2 2015 cars, once at a car show, once to test drive a v8 ultimate or whatever and the sub is just off or low, I don't know what the issue is but even if you turn it up from the sound menu it sounds flat as if it's not playing lower frequencies. A lot of people on the forums are saying the same thing although they love the car other than that and the rest of the speakers sound great. I think the higher wattage only helps with higher volume but I rarely go past 15 in my car (out of 40 or 50?) so I've never had an issue with clear sound
@iSOBigD
@iSOBigD 8 лет назад
+Trevor Henderson I'm not sure but just test drive them on the same day and see how you feel. I didn't have the headrest and seatbelt concerns when I tried them and a similarly equipped a6 is Around 30k more I'm Canada so they're not really comparable price wise unless you'd get a base a6 with a 2l engine vs the v8 genesis...I do like the new audi displays but the rest doesn't seem much better to me than the previous models

+Trevor Henderson hi, I enjoy high end audio and I compared the 14 and 17 speaker Lexicon systems with both the LOGIC7 h/k system and upgrade BeoSound system available on the 2015 e class. Just like there's no replacement for displacement, the Lexicon system could use a couple hundred more watts. What makes the Lexicon system different from most of its competitors is that, at least for the 2015 Genesis, it is a bespoke system, built into the structural elements of the body and doors rather sitting in body panels. This improves clarity without any distortion or shaking. For most of my listening, this is appropriate. I hate it when car parts rattle anyway. However, the system is underpowered compared to the Benz (and even other nonluxury systems) in terms of sheer concussive power. The LOGIC7 system is extremely punchy and BeoSound system can double as your chiropractor with 1200 watts to 14 speakers. Both of these audio options are similar to what is available at Audi. Think of Bose headphones vs Beats. If you like the bass heavy and explosive systems, an upgrade to the amp should solve the issue and the Lexicon metal cones should be more than adequate to the task.

My friends parents have a 2016 s550 4matic and I love when they let me drive it they've have other s classes and never had issues either. I had a 2009 e 550 and loved it the only reason I didn't get another e class is that I didn't like the newer body style and I don't like cla I think it's not a real mercedes lol and I don't like the looks of the cls. but like with any car brand some come out better that others I was thinking of the BMW 7 series but I just don't like BMW at all. we will see what happens but as of now it's looking like I'll order a s class I'm still hoping to find one with the options I want.

@iSOBigD
@iSOBigD 8 лет назад
No need for a Turbo when the base model has over 300 hp and the V8 has over 400...But I'm sure you can mod it if you'd like, but there isn't a big market for that on the rare Genesis Sedan like you have for the coupe. Most people don't buy big luxury cars, and even less modify theirs in major ways. I changed lights on mine (to white) and sound proofed most parts of it and I probably have one of the most modified ones around. Others have put in subs and body kits or exhausts, that's about it.
@bone476
@bone476 8 лет назад
Yeah that the only problem for me. I would rather buy an M series or S (Audi) series. I love having a luxurious sports car but when they are the same price as a well known German powerhouse like BMW or Audi that have sports car with more parts which is definitely a tough competition.
@iSOBigD
@iSOBigD 8 лет назад
bone476 Well you're in luck because they're not the same price. A ~420hp big Audi sedan (S6/RS6) or M5/M6 with the same features are double the price. I just specced out an S6 to match the Genesis, it's $89,050 US. The M5 is $117,807 (even the carpet mats are optional). The Genesis V8 AWD with all features is around 60k Canadian. That's around 45k US, although I think in the US the V8 is only RWD. Either way, it's literally about half the price. When reviewers say "it's almost as much as a 5/E/A6" what they mean is a full equipped 420 hp V8 Genesis is near the base price of a 4 cylinder, base sound system, no memory/heated seats, no nice materials, no adaptive cruise control/self driving, no carpets (and even the rear airbags are extra) model of the other cars. No one would drive a 200 HP E class and say "yup, this is much more fun than the Genesis which has over 300hp with the base engine). Reviews and online comments are very misleading because they're not comparing apples to apples. People tend to talk about Mercedes/Lexus being great only because of the S/LS cars, not mentioning that they own a base model C class or IS. They say BMWs "drive great" because the $100k+ M3/M4/M5/M6 drive well, but not mentioning that most people own the base model 3 series which sucks and lacks basic features cheaper cars have.
@frankhujsa821
@frankhujsa821 8 лет назад
+iSOBigD Exactly, almost completely agree with you. Funny, I did the same exercise with the Audi A6 right before I bought my 2015 Genesis. Audi was going to need well over $65k for a car with the same power (V6) and convenience features as the Genesis. That price difference alone buys a motorcycle for fun and an old truck to beat up. The only thing I would say is that the BMW alternatives, 5 or 3, are exceptionally fun to drive. They have relatively shabby interiors and are probably not worth the price difference. But they feel like they are shrinking around you when driven hard. It's a unique and amazing sensation that I can totally see someone being willing to pay for.

5 Mercedes Benz since 2012? Wow, Antonio. You sound like I used to be and you need to get happy with yourself. We only trade cars often because our lives become "boring" or we feel insecure how we are viewed by others. Remember that people you know will only give kudos once. When they see it a second time they won't care. You can only impress people you don't like or don't know (sitting at a stop light, going into a store) with nice cars. I really hope you keep this car long enough to pay it off because they're a huge waste of money.

@VizionWorksEditing
@VizionWorksEditing 8 лет назад
Point in, most technology features are standard in it. Navigation, back up cameras, push button start, Auto-Dimming mirrors, power-folding mirrors, LCD screen in instrument cluster, heated front seats, hands free smart trunk, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights. Not a single german brand will give you those without paying extra. Mercedes Benz for example charges you damn near 4 grand for LIGHTS, like for real?
@warikplaya
@warikplaya 8 лет назад
+VizionWorksEditing which option is that? I haven't seen any options that cost that much just for lights. Mercedes is more expensive than Hyundai, but come on, don't be silly. Also, these standard options that you mentioned are not exactly high tech and unique, like the guy in the video suggests. You have to spend like 8k in options to make it a high tech car like he touts it to be. Otherwise, folding mirrors is not a very useful feature to brag about..

+Volnik I've owned a 2010, 2011 and 2014 Mercedes Benz E class. When I bought the 2014 one, the price was $58175 (I still have the sales bill) and that DID NOT have: radar sensing cruise control, real leather (just leatherette called MBTEX), no adaptive high beam assist, no parking sensors, no blind spot, no lane keep assist, no specially designed suspension and with less horsepower. Want to know how much I paid for this one? $52k fully loaded (almost). Want to know how much for a E class with the same features as this? $70k if you pick and choose your own options. But that was a Benz right? so it was obviously better! WRONG! .This past February I decided to take a trip to Mercedes Benz assembly plant in Tuscaloosa to see with my own eyes WHY I paid so much......sadly, no apparent reason because that same day I drove over to Hyundai's plant across town in Tuscaloosa....wanna know what I saw? THE SAME parts manufacturers putting the same exact parts in Hyundai, suppliers like Bosh, Delphi......I just couldn't believe my eyes. The bottom line is that you can only engineer a vehicle so much before you no longer see an attainable benefit and the rest is just over pricing. The thing with Benz is that you will drive a cleverly marketed piece of machinery....and you'll be the fool.
@warikplaya
@warikplaya 8 лет назад
I guess you could say that genesis has more horspewoer, but counting 10 or so horses is not relevant - its the same power pretty much. I have owned a fair share of Benzes myself and saying that a person who drives a benz over a hyundai is a fool is just silly. Like you mentioned, there is about 15k difference between them, but the quality in cars would also be apparent. Also, you are comparing a new body of hyundai to old body of E class. As a result, you can get a very nice deal on benz. And have you seen the new body style of E class? I can understand if your wallet doesnt allow you to pay the 70k for a better car, but it doesnt make sense to call the people who got enough of a wallet to do so fools. And what same exact parts? Sure, I wouldnt be surprised if stuff like USB ports is the same, but I cant think of too many other parts that would be same. Even if vendors are the same, it doest mean that they dont have cheaper and more expensive stuff, like pretty much any company out there. I think you are being too extreme with your conclusions.
@robertschulz3584
@robertschulz3584 8 лет назад
+Volnik My apologies, I didn't mean you say you're a fool, I just thought of myself as a fool for making such purchase. My sedan compared apples to apples to the 2015 E class. And yes! you nailed it, quality was at the forefront of my decision making, and this is why I didn't hesitate leaving Benz. Don't get me wrong, I was a huge fan of Benz so let's run down the list: 2008 Gl450, 2010, 2011 and 2014 E class and 2011 M class. And yes yes yes, a 1000 times yes, the Genesis is the best car I've owned by far....I am fortunate enough to not concern about affordability (up to a point) so I was able to own these Benzs throughout the years. And yes my friend, Genesis beats hands down all those cars I mentioned. I particularly enjoy doing long road trips in it (I'm known for doing rather astronomical trips) and when I sat for 5 or 6 hours at a time in any of the sedans, I really had to mentally prepare for the discomfort afterwards, discomfort that I don't suffer with the Genesis. The Genesis suspension was developed alongside Lotus so the drive can be sporty when you want to (which I don't concern myself with that) what I love is the stability at high rates of speed....which I never had with the any of the E classes, and I precisely bought the sports package in the '14 because of the Topsy turby feeling I had on the other two.....because those don't have a suspension system as well designed as the Genesis (I am not talking about AMG anything...because hello, those are AMG) To summarize: great interior quality, great suspension, good power, better interior comforts, more technology (for the price because Benz offers it and they do the same thing, same exact thing ....just more expensive for some reason). If you have a Benz and you love it, good for you because the new 2017 E class is AMAZING....but just wait, remember my genesis has been out since 2015 .....so we'll get a new body style in 2018 or 2019....and then where will that 2017 e class stand? we'll have to see....but if history has been of any indication I think both will look amazing and do the same thing....but one will cost more than the other.

Surprisingly enough, in new Zealand , the Genesis comes with a whole lot of features, like 360° camera, also some pedestrian protection system where the hood pops up to lessen the impact for a pedestrian if hit. Now, available soon in South Korea, will be the traffic jam admit feature where the vehicle drives itself entirely up to a certain speed.

Yeah that's the worst part in my opinion - they have different models (features) for different parts of the world. They don't have adjustable air suspension on the Genesis in Canada where our roads are shit, but they have it in Korea, and no rear seat controls (beyond the heated seats). That makes no sense to me. The last model has one cooled seat not two, despite having the air vents under the passenger seat, but in other parts of the world it had the feature for both sides.
