Ok guys! I have the 2015 Genesis with the 3.8 V6. My car now just rolled by 232k miles and still going strong! I will retire it at 300k. This car is built like a rock. I just have to keep an eye on oil level, but otherwise still going strong!
Hey, I'm looking forward to buy 2015-2016 Genesis 3.8 v6 htrac. What to look out for and are there any common problems with the Motor engine or automatic transmission? Are there ani problems with the timing chain? I'm from Slovakia Europe here the Genesis is very rare so can't find any info. It's an beautiful car and bargain for money price in Slovakia for this car is from 16k to 20k euros that's perfect because german cars are much more expensive and they have high mileage. Thanks for answer
I was raised in India and moved to USA 3 years ago. I never had a car for 24 years and spent my life dreaming about one. I got used 2016 genesis 3.8 AWD with 53k miles, driven by an old lady. It was in a mint condition. I've put over 12k miles on it then after. It's been a blessing in my life to have this car as the first vehicle. ❤ (You always remember your first car & I'm grateful)
@@loganross1861I believe you’ll enjoy it, just bought one recently. For the age it is yes certainly outdated technology visually but everything you’d get in newer vehicles. Power is there when you need it, drives super smooth no complaints as of yet.
I drive my 2016 daily and have 47k miles on it. As of this moment it is flawless. It rides like a luxury car should. I average about 20mpg driving to work and back for 18 miles round trip. No light troubles. No leather troubles.
Nice review brutha, I’ve been doing a lot of research and watching a lot of videos and I think yours sealed the deal. Looking for a nice luxury car to replace my ram after having a truck for 5 years.
Great review of the G80. I have a 2015 which is basically same as yours. I have 92,000 miles on it and the car is still going strong. I find that Genesis offers a lot of value for the money. My car has also proven to be very inexpensive to maintain. Just tires, brakes, and oil changes which are normal maintenance items. I did have some problems with the XM radio controls but that was fixed under the extended warranty I purchased for an extra $2K. I recently had to have my oil pressure sensor replaced. The low oil pressure light was on but there was actually no problem with the oil pressure. Hyundai replaced the sensor under warranty and it wasn't cheap, $1800 for the part and labor so I was pleased the warranty paid for this work. Overall I am pleased with the car so far and I hope to take this car to 200,000 miles and beyond. Thanks!
Phenomenal video review. Always wanted one of these cars. I have my eye on the 2015 hyundai Genesis with a 5.0 v8. It's good to know that this car it is reliable. There is a 2015 genesis v8 for sale with 83k miles for 20k. Thinking about trading my infiniti for it. Do you think I should pull the trigger?
Great review,my next car will be a Genesis GV70 as soon as there available. That said,I have some cheap tips on fixing your Leather.Get some Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint, get as close to the color as you can and dab some on the Drivers Seat. The Passenger seat is perforated (cooling seats)hence the rip on the upper.I would take it to a Upholster and do it right, they can get a piece of leather to match and just sew the upper section,if you remove the seat yourself youll save $$.The rear door scratches are from a Pet,my car came with it too.Use a towel and a steamer/steam iron, put the towel against the panel then steam it bit by bit and smooth it out.The Shifter can be renewed,it comes off but if not able to mask everything around it,sand the fake chrome lightly and spray light coats of Clear Laquer.Good Luck!
I have a 2017 genesis g90 from brand new,for almost a year now I've been having problems with my ac temperature fluctuations, cuts out ,had freon check compressor at different dealership they admit something going on but don't know what is wrong, also my navigation has lines across the screen and there's quite a few guys on the forum having the same thing, some replace compressor, actuator, Temp sensor, evaporator and still no solution plus Hyundai corporate knows about the problems and their not even trying to get to the bottom of it in anyway
My 2015 Genesis 3.8 HTRAC has been in service since January 2016. At 46,000km, it looks and runs essentially like new. Replaced the battery and tires a few months ago, and the original disc pads are now at 8mm and 5mm, and I'm considering a "proactive" replacement of the front ones. Other than that? Nothing but basic maintenance. The car is 4500+ pounds of Korean steel, and weighs significantly more than the newer models, powered by a 2.5L turbo base engine. So it is definitely slower, but not oppressively so (does 0-60 in the low 6's). Talk about bank vault solid? This car is it. A crash test star. I'm thinking of trading it in, but since I now only drive 3,000 km a year, and the car is garaged 99% of the time, it isn't a super priority. I owned a 2010 Genesis before. Bought it for 30k, drove it 5 years, and sold it to CarMax for 20k in mint condition. I see a lot of Japanese car fan-bois dumping on Lexus, but their experiences (or at least their descriptions of their experiences) seem radically different from mine. Genesis service departments can be a hit-or-miss experience, but the cars themselves seem like an excellent bargain to me.
This cars sorta growl like you said is what I noticed coming from a camaro ss and I was surprised with its driving. Picking one up today with 22k for 27 off this old couple
I had an old 2007 BMW 760 Li and that was a money eater! Great ride but too expensive. Repairs, high test gas, etc. My G80 uses regular gas and gets 32 MPG on the highway! Great car!
@@doctordk1948 hey man I'm picking up one today, a 2018 with 22k miles! One quick question does yours have acceleration lag? A couple that ive test driven, seemed to delay over a full second on when the engine would respond after stepping on it. Even so, im in love with it and going for it.
@@thediydude I love mine! I am keeping mine for 3 years and then I am buying a used 2021 G80. I drove mine up from SC to Ohio and got 33 MPG! Mine is a 3.8 L and it moves so I haven't noticed an acceleration lags as you but I am an old man, so we may have dofferent views on acceleration! lol
@@doctordk1948 hey man so I bought the car! My wife is in love with it and it does have the acceleration delay (if I gas it from a stop it take an entire second or so to launch, but I've read its just the way their gdi engines respond, and I mean its a 4300lb luxury car so its not a small little sportster. But yeah man it really does fly and is an incredible ride. Were thinking the same thing, drive for a a couple years then see what we can get towards a used current gen 🥰 thanks for the reply
The hole in the leather could have resulted from the leather itself having hardened with age. Leather seats need maintenance, not just cleaning. You should periodically apply a leather conditioner to your seats, this will keep them soft and flexible., and prevent cracking or tearing.
This sounds more like a quality issue. I had my 2013 Bmw 328i for 6-7 years and and the black leather all over the car, aside from the driver seat, is still like new. And i live in Nevada.
Hey man I was honestly thinking about getting this one. I’ve been looking for a car because my Kia Optima SXL 2013 got in a accident by the other driver. It’s possible that it may be totaled. I’ve been looking for something with premium and nice features but don’t want to pay to much for a car. I’m considering this, maybe the 2018 year though, do you recommend this car? I’m 24 and make about 60k I have a nice amount of cash saved as well for my other life issues down the line? Awd of course since I’m in Chicago and 3.3t preferably since I don’t wanna spend to much on gas. Thanks
I have a 2017 G80 with about 55k on it - no problems at all. Previously I owned Toyota cars, including 2 Toyota Avalons, and I liked them all. However, the G80 has HANDS DOWN BEEN MY FAVORITE CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. If you have a chance to buy yourself one, go for it, you won’t regret it!
There is nothing more satisfying for the Koreans than to beat out the Japanese products, especially, in the automobile industry. To have a flagship from Hyundai giving chase to Lexus is already quite an accomplishment. Nonetheless, this review gives many pinpoint opinions to the prospective Genesis buyers, including myself, the caution to wait a little longer before giving up on Lexus and jumping ship to Genesis. From 1989 to 2016 were the finest hours of the LS- V8. That is 27 years of dominance in the Luxo-sedan segment of the industry. Let's hope the Genesis doesn't take that long to climb the award podium.
I got a 2015 I love it. People still look at it, I parked it next to the 2021 and mine still looks good! Not many times the older version can look good next to the newest version. When I upgrade Im going g90, just because I love the brand and I want the bigger car. You cannot go wrong with a hyundai, the light issue, just replace the entire light ! Its one of its few defects... but I mean theyve been on for over 6 years, so I would say thats a good light!
I bought a 2016 new. The only problem was I left the drivers side door ajar for 3 or 4 weeks 3 winters ago, I killed the battery. The interior lights went off after 15 minutes but the "Door Agar" light on the dash depleted the battery. Replaced the AGM glass battery and all is well. No other issues at 40K miles. Love my G80!
I own the Hyundai genesis 3.8 HTRAC fully loaded. I drove from Orlando to Miami when I first got it. One way 340 mi. I drove an avg 80 mi per hour. I used just about half a tank of gas. I use premium 91 to 93 only. Car handled great. Love the ride. I dont race my car. I like to cruise. Want to race drive the g 70. Sure this car isnt a AUDI< BMW, Jaguar, Lexus or Mercedes. It's a GENESIS. Cost a lot less to own than the others I just mentioned. A question for all you enthusiast ( NAME BRAND ), check the 2016 with the NAME BRANDS of the same yrs, and you be the judge after you do. I did and could have buy the others but this time i bough the genesis. why? Sound Investment.
Here, here Errol. I drove an A4 before I bought my 2015 base Genesis, and as much as I LOVED the sublime Audi driving experience, I LOATHED the Audi ownership experience. At 60K miles, it hasn’t been flawless, but waaay cheaper to maintain.
I have issues with the Headlights that intermittently flicker at night when Turn Signal is on, my dealer has refused to address or replace them as others have. Heater in seat went out, had to replace the whole seat, had a ECU Vacuum Module issue replaced. On my way in this morning to deal with burnt out interior Opera Light, whole panel has to be replaced. In total, including today ($600), I’ll have had over $6000 of work done so far. Thank god I ponied up $4000 for the 10yr Bumper to Bumper Hyundai Extended warranty that I have 5yrs left on. I plan on keeping it that long.
The paint is a tri-coat. It's a Pearl coat. So tei-coat means, base color, pearl flake over the base, and then a clear coat to finish it off. Just an FYI!! Love the car
As a first time driver in Canada, do you guys think its wise to get this car as basically my first car(used)? Would you suggest me to get it from dealerships or Private ?
Suresh, as an owner of a 2015 with 106K in Ottawa, I would highly advocate any AWD car. I’d also advocate looking for one with an Extended Warranty, as reliability is average, but parts costs can be higher, if German car crazy higher. Unless you’re looking for all the bells and whistles, I’d stick with the 3.8, mine is a base model, extremely well equipped as is, less to go wrong down the road. One of the elements I love the best about this car is the Infotainment System. As a Base model, it doesn’t come with a dial, but just as well, the system is intuitive, fast and rock solid reliable. I’d opt for the Upgrade to the NAV system to get Apple Car Play and Android Auto as well as the latest maps.
@@playalarga5493 the couple we bought ours off said they paid 53k and we bought if off em this past December at a loss to them for 27, with only 22k. It's a 2018. I've never had shit so maybe it's that but fuck. I get looks everywhere I go and it feels like damn legit spaceship coming from a 81 volvo GL 😅🥲. The best part is I've only seen 2 in the past 4 months. Once in Oakland and once in fresno and it's my daily. The exclusive feel it gives me and how foreign it is to even a lot of non casuals makes it worth a lot more imo. But def no 55k 🤣 especially how the 15 looked, like an equus
Hey guys, I'm looking forward to buy the genesis 3.8 v6 Htrack it's an beautiful car and great deal for money. I'm from Slovakia EU, here these cars are very rare so can't find any info about reliability and maintenance. My question is, is the engine and transmission reliable what to look out for? And is there ani problems with the timing chain? Like Audi, Bmw have big problems with timing chains and transmission as the whole world knows. Thats why im looking for something different. Thanks for answers..
Thank you for a very helpful and informative review. The resulting discussion that follows likewise. I am in the UK and nearly bought one a few months ago but it was sold just the day before i travelled a distance to buy it, it was 24k miles and from a main dealer so i was disappointed. They are as rare as hens teeth here. The comments on high mileage models is useful as like the Lexus models they seem to keep going and therefore i have learned not to be overlooked just because of high miles.
the fading at the top next to the panoramic roof is probably abrasion when a dealer tried to polish and refinish the glass with a large rotary buffer. I’ve seen this way too many times on numerous cars where they don’t protect the adjacent panels.
It’s not doing that for real. It’s the camera that makes it appear this way. Has something to do with refresh rate or something. Can’t remember the technical explanation lol
This car has the "Signature Package". I have the same model year with this package only, just like this one. • Power Tilt-and-Slide Panoramic Sunroof • Integrated Memory System/Ventilated Front Seats • Power Tilt-and-Telescopic Steering Wheel • Auto-Dimming Side Mirrors • Blind Spot Detection w/Rear Cross-Traffic Alert • Lexicon 14-Speaker Discrete Logic 7 Audio System • LED Foglights / Rearview Camera w/Parking Guidelines • Power Rear Sunshade and Manual Rear Side Sunshades
Hows the power output: acceleration from a dead stop/ red light , mid acceleration on the hwy , soso or good for what it is ?.... /// fuel economy~ does eco mode make a bit of a difference, whats the highest range miles you’ve seen when you fill up , whats your favorite feature of the car .
Highway acceleration is very solid. From a dead stop is soso. Best range i have seen is 580 miles. Normal use will will result in 500ish miles range to dead empty.
@@mikexcanxjerk that is for the most part casual driving. I have been known to get a little bit excited during on ramps and passing but for the most part im an easy rider. I pull a consistant 26 mpg combined.
matt behler 26 combined , that's really good. Is that more hwy driving or more city driving or combination of both ? Is that on normal mode or eco mode, mostly ? Do you put 87 octane gas or 89 ?
