This bike is so much better than he has described. 100HP wet weight is 550lbs. Top speed is 130 MPH electronically governed. This bike is a 69 Cubic Inch, 1133 CC Sport Cruiser. It eats 1200 sportsters for lunch. Redline is close to 8000 RPM. Beats 110 Cubic Inch CVO harleys easily. It is a high revving, high horsepower motorcycle. I own one, and sell them for a living. Buy this thing with confidence.
@saoirsethewanderer
@saoirsethewanderer 7 лет назад
Yea, I don't get these reviewers and commenters who compare it to the Harley 1200. It isn't even close to it. It has a totally different feeling and revs so much higher. It eats the performance of the 1200 Sportster for breakfast. Now that isn't to say there aren't flaws but it is way better than the Sportster unless you just want a bike with noise and name.

Curtis Haley the scout is heads and shoulders above the hd sportster 883/ hd 48 1200. Anyone who says otherwise hasn't had a ride of the scout

Curtis Haley hey man I know you posted this over a year ago, but I'm 6'3 225 pounds and wanted to know if you think I'm too big for this bike. I really want one of these but I am afraid that my size will fck me over upon buying this bike.
@saoirsethewanderer
@saoirsethewanderer 7 лет назад
I am almost 6'3" and about 210 or so. I fit the bike ok but it is really all what you feel when you ride it. I like the size. It is definitely a short bike compared to some but some people like it that way. I do like it over the HD Sportster and as I said below, it performs much better in every way.

Whatever you may think of the result, these are far and away the best review videos (audio quality, image quality, comments, no stupid rock music, et cetera) out there. Thanks for review

I don't understand how you say it's a small engine. Everybody's math is wrong on this thread. Indian Scout is 100 HP 69ci motor which is 1130cc. Harley 883 is 60hp 53.9ci which is 883cc. Harley 883 is $2000 cheaper than the Indian Scout. For a reason, there is no comparison between the two.

Looks and size. But you're right it's like comparing a Corolla and a Lexus IS
@RobertMeany
@RobertMeany 6 лет назад
Original comment was 2 years ago.. Not sure if the scout sixty was out then.. But that would be a better comparison to the 883. I'd say the Sixty is still superior to the 883, from a purely technical standpoint, at least.
@suburbanhobbyist2752
@suburbanhobbyist2752 6 лет назад
He didn't seem to do his research before taking this test ride. It is most definitely not comparable to the 883. A closer match would be the Sportster 1200 but even then it's a different animal. Hard to compare with Harley. Definitely much more horsepower and a longer and much higher RPM torque range. He seems to start to understand that the torque really kicks in above 4000 rpm. Classic Harley rider who is used to low RPM torque and is constantly shifting the Scout before they hit the powerband. Basically he was comparing half the Scouts power because he never let it out properly.
@georgecostanza2695

Richi Camacho technically its sized between a Sportster and a Dyna, but we're only talking a couple inches either way anyways. But regardless, this guy doesn't seem to understand liquid cooled engines. The most powerful Harley (Vrod) was 1130cc's.
@derekhunter8299
@derekhunter8299 8 лет назад
It outperforms the Harley 883 because Harley is and always has been a sub-par machine.

"Small" V-twin? It's a 69CID engine, or 1000cc+. Since when is that a small engine? If that's the case, marketing of unnecessarily big engines has reached new heights in the motorcycling world. It's a nice bike and Indian is selling lots of them. You won't need a more powerful engine for doing anything.
@c0c0asauce

Roadghost88 Some people want to go really fast. 140cc bike + me = 270lbs = 75 mph, I'm really not one of those people.

c0c0asauce A friend of mine back in the day was 6'8" and 280. He had an FJ1100. Could blast by anyone all day in the twisties with it. We're not talking 140cc. But a 280lb guy does need at least 400cc to start with.
@hokogan

Roadghost88 It's just that modern idea that you need 100+ CI to have a "man's bike." Utter BS, really.
@Roadghost88
@Roadghost88 9 лет назад
hokogan Exactly. It's an idea pushed by the idiots in the popular motorcycle media to get people to $pend more money buying more motorcycle than they will ever use and they play a false macho game to do it. I've read articles where they recommend 600cc 150mph sport bikes as a "great first bike". Well, I'm sure it certainly is until something goes wrong that a novice can't correct. Ludicrous.
@hokogan

Personally, even though I'm 6'3", I prefer the feel of the Scout. It's nimble and proportioned like a pre-cruiser-weight-gain bike. It takes a mighty heave to get a Chief off the side stand.

I rode a scout the other day, and it's a very sporty cruiser. It's an easy transition for anyone used to sport bikes. I had a great time on it, but I didn't like how whistle-esque the engine sounded. Exhaust on the other hand was very musical.

Nice, my course is this coming weekend. My friend has been looking at the Kawasaki Vulcan S. It is a good looking bike, sort of a cross between cruiser and sport, but leaning more towards cruiser.
@exexpat11

Small frame, maybe. Small motor? Close to a V-Rod and around the 1200 Sportster. If the power is 100Hp with a flat torque band that compares it will smoke all Sportys. My concern would be the flat, slant, almost lay down rear shocks. How does it absorb potholes feel wise? Gauge better than a Bolt. Looks like Indian has a winner! Not a copy. It is a stand alone bike and that is good!

100 HP out of 1133 CC's is a lot of power for that size. The Honda VTX 1800 puts out 108 HP. Only 8 more from another 667 CC's. Indian had some fantastic engineering to make that power. I want one !

Strange that you scraped the pegs so easily. I just picked a Scout up the other day. I have literally tried to scrape the pegs because I wanted to see how much it would take. I still haven't been able to do it after 100 miles. Maybe they changed them somehow since you made the video? Also, as others have pointed out, it's much closer to a Sportster 1200, but with the seat so low it honestly felt more like a softail slim to me....a softail slim with a much sportier and faster feel.

Why would you refer to this as a "smaller engine?" 1133 cc's is not a small engine. Sure, there are bigger engines, but I would never call an engine on the north side of 1,000 cc's small.
@TwoWheelObsession
@TwoWheelObsession 8 лет назад
+Ken Thompson because large cruisers are north of 1800. Smaller is a relative term
@suburbanhobbyist2752
@suburbanhobbyist2752 6 лет назад
It seems like he didn't do his research and was dead set on comparing it to the 883. Someone, at the time, must have mistakingly given him bad info. Once you get trapped into a preconceived notion like that it's hard to get away from it. It was funny watching as he slowly realizes it isn't small at all as the power keeps proving that. The saddest part though is that he never really hit the actual powerband for any meaningful amount of time to discover the true power. That's what you get with HD riders who expect all the torque to be gone anywhere over 4000 rpms. I wonder what he would have thought if he had ridden it properly and was shifting in the mid 5 to over 6000 range!? In any event, no, it's isn't small in anyone's relative terminology. Mid range if anything.

You can not compare this to a 883, well you can, the 883 is a toy for girls compared to the 1130 . I have had a 1200 sportster with edelbrock everything, the scout eats it for breakfast. I have had a vrod and will probably go back to a vrod cvo if I ever get rid of my scout. Currently my scout is and I think in the future, exude class more than any harley!

@InformalGreeting
@InformalGreeting 8 лет назад
That may be what you want to know, but it doesn't interest me at all. I can easily find the ratings for HP, torque, engine size, and transmission. That information is available on a hundred different websites. What is difficult to find is an unbiased opinion about how the bike feels and functions. Before watching the video I knew the bike was rated at 100 hp and 72.2 ft lbs coming from a dohc 69 ci motor mated to a six speed transmission. I didn't know that the seat was a bit uncomfortable in the tailbone area or that the switches appeared cheap and toy like. Now I do... and that's why I watched the video.

Dealer BS. I rode every new Harley, the Live Wire 3 times (110 mph). I demoed one Indian, not this model but the popular one that's supposed to be the perfect mix of sport and cruiser. Very informative demo ride. You mentioned briefly something about the Vstar. Being I just bought the 1300, can you give a brief critique about it? I try to watch all of your demo rids and don't remember you demoing the Vstar. If you did and I missed it, let me know the video name so that I may "share" the ride. Thanx again BG.

Blackhawk 247 I rode one when they first came out, but obviously I'm sure they have changed since then. No video of them yet except what you see. On RU-vid just click Playlists to see everything, that's the easiest way. Thanks for watching!

IMNSHO... Polaris really screwed-up by not giving their bigger bikes a water-cooled engine. I'm still looking for a "Chub Scout" to replace my Fat Bob. The Scout is so nice... It makes today's Sportster buyers look like real Dumbasses.

Looking to get my motorcycle endorsement within the next few months. I found a 2003 Scout at a dealer by me that is absolutely gorgeous. Can anyone experienced steer me towards a good first bike, that isn't a Japanese bike?

You'll get more performance and features from a japanese bike for the money you spend. I like USA made V Twins, so own a Sportster 883. If you like them, you can usually find one with low mileage for a few thousand dollars.

Hi, I read an article about this motorcycle being a great motorcycle for a first motorcycle, do you agree? I've ridden scooters and mini dirtbikes before but nothing with a clutch. (except cars with a clutch)

***** I would say, maybe not. 100hp is a lot for a first timer. It's a flat torque curve tame 100, but it can sneak up on you and you'll be going into a croner a lot hotter than you thought.

At 6'4" you may be a bit cramped, even with the long reach seat and forward controls. Worth checking though as I am 6'1" and I use the standard seat and controls. if you are 250lbs plus get the uprated rear suspension, especially if you live in an area with lots of bumps/expansion joints/potholes. Larger riders like us tend to overwhelm the rear shocks a bit.

Awesome review; you mentioned Victory not being comparable to this, is this because of engine size? I'm considering the Gunner or Vegas from Victory or the Stryker from Star; however, the Scout looks fantastic and easier to handle. Have you tested these as well?

Arkansas Motorcycle Rides it has more lean clearance that a Sporty by 3 degrees, just the way it goes with cruisers. Really not that bad though if you use a forward and in turning method.

+Russell Cupples After riding the sportster many miles and many of them, this new Scout makes them feel like an antique! Every single aspect of this new bike puts the harley to shame. I would think they would realize this and stop making them, but as stubborn as they are, they will milk that thing out to the bitter end! It's outdated compared to all other comparable bikes and brands!

TwoWheelObsession Yea I was wondering the same thing.....I am 6'3'' 230lbs with a 33" inseam. I really like the Scout, and am looking at getting a new bike around the entry level cost of the scout and similar bikes, but they are typically smaller model bikes. I know there are extenders for taller riders, but I am curious if someone my size would look ridiculous on it. I also really dig the darkhorse, but not the 17k starting pricetag.

Small gas tank and no easy way to correct cornering clearance.
@hooahayes
@hooahayes 7 лет назад
John Mitchell I just let the pegs come up when they scrape, gets me a few more degrees. The gastank can be a pain but if you are riding fairly responsibly you can get about 150 miles out of it in under 65mph back road cruising. Start doing 80-90 on the highway and it'll dry up at about 120 miles.

I ended up buying a Harley Davidson Sportster Superlow. It is a great bike, needs some tweaks to catch up with the Indian in cornering and power however I have a very reliable bike for little money.
