We've got a 2015 Trailhawk and the things that would be VERY handy in it are: A Pillar handles inside, and cameras on the wing mirrors and in the front bumper to help with rock crawling.
I have a 2015, and definitely very capable, slow n steady is the way to go. Taking air out of ties would have definitely made a difference going up with providing better traction, it'd only be a very minor loss in clearance. plus you have skid plates. too bad their isn't a lift kit for these yet, at least that I know of. Try at least 20-25psi. I carry a portable air compressor to air back up. otherwise good job going up that hill!
Well, I honestly had my doubts that you would make it all the way up towards the end but it did it. the Cherokee didn't make it easy for you but it did it.
I was surprised you were able to get over that one crack, with your back tires, without getting more momentum. They need to ad a button that takes 10 psi out of all your tires and, at the same time, puts air into some air shocks to raise you up 4 inches, or more. Then go back to 'road mode' and it pumps your tires back up and lowers the body back down.
I was worried about that too, i guess its a catch 22 because the gain in traction makes a big diff. Try again with 16psi, I'm curious if the gain in traction outweighs the loss in clearance.
It makes a huge difference. I routinely air my Grand Cherokee down to 15 psi off-road because with traction I can use wheel placement to offset the loss of clearance and still drive up and over obstacles. An ARB quick air-down tool is one of my best purchases.
David Arce I have a 2016 TH and have played around with airing down the tires. From my personal experience I have found that the lost of ground clearance from airing down to much is counter productive and the trick is finding the "sweet spot" for the type of terrian you will be running. That sweet spot for me for most of the trails in Az has been about 24-26 psi in stock form. My friend's KL is lifted with spacers, springs, shocks and larger tires and he can air down to 20 psi while still maintain acceptable ground clearance for most of our runs but he usually still sticks to the 24-26 psi arrange for most situations.
I don't think he aired down or used the locker. At least rock means he's in low. You don't have to go that low. 25 PSI or so will do the trick for the Cherokee Trailhawk, you just can't be at 36. 36 is awful. That's not even great for the street. Its too high. You could run 26 psi street if you REALLY wanted to and I can prove it , actually.
