Just wondering if you ever drive one? It handles like a sports car but slower. And 43 mpg what's not to love. Just bought one. Slow but corners wonderfully
Great little car. Looks sporty gets great MPG. Will be very reliable and its a Lexus. A winning package if you ask me. I also think its one of the best looking hatchbacks ever made
@@tune2gr3is82 you only made yourself come off as a complete asshole and dense. Great job! You're in luck though, There's a new surgery being done in Colorado, the surgeons will do a great job making your obvious thick skull a bit more thin. :)

Just picked up a 2013 luxury package with 47,000 miles for 15,800. Couldn't be happier with the car, great interior plenty of power for city driving, great sound system. The combination of incredible gas mileage and luxury interior is hard to beat!
I just bought a Lexus CT 200h a couple days ago and Its everything you want in a hybrid. Sexy style, great handling, and decent cargo space. I would say if these qualities are important to you than the CT is a must! Love this car!
UK owner, had one of these and it has a very nice interior, steering felt sharp and the ride was indeed comfortable but if you push it, and I mean at all, like setting off from junction or overtaking the engine screams at you and forget living anywhere with hills because that's what you will hear all day. If you live on the geographical equivalent of a pool table where the speed limit is 40mph, it will suit you just fine...
This car is so intriguing to me. I think they nailed the looks and it's one of my favorite vehicles on the road when I see them. I'm a fan of hatchbacks in general. I just wish they made it in a non-hybrid and/or manual transmission that could add some fun to the looks.
Thanks for the video. There actually are rear air vents in the CT. They are located under the driver & passenger seats. If you adjust the front seats all the way forward, you will see them on the floor.
I've just bought a 2014 with just 17k miles on it. Pick it up this week. I've heard very little negative about this car from anyone that owns one. I'm looking forward to getting behind the wheel in mine.
I own the base model, lovely as the time passes, plush interior, nice handling, great fuel economy and no shudder and noise, like most compact diesels here in Europe. The picture with the inline skates reminded me to buy a pair of rollerblades and start doing it again.
Hopefully, you've rollerbladed more recently than Chris had when he put his on, connectorxp. LOL We should have taken more video of it. Thank you for your comments and for watching!
Interesting that he commented on braking. We've driven Toyota/Lexus hybrids for over 15 years and find the braking system amazing. It uses regenerative braking unless you demand heavy braking and also transfers from regenerative to disk braking as you glide to a stop. The transfer is almost imperceptible, which we find impressive.
Rick Lafford how was the performance aspect of this car? I've never had experience with a hybrid style power plant before... I have been considering this model Lexus for a couple of months now.
Even though as a well seasoned Lexus repair technician, I have learned much more about the automaker in this helpful review. School is in session! Oh, & the video game sound bite..... CLASSIC!!
Fantastic car, I've got the F Sport late 2015 model, amazing car, zero road tax here in the UK, £280 per year insurance. WOW. 50mpg all day long, up to 60 on a run at a steady 60-65mph. I've also got the Yaris Hybrid which is fantastic, had Toyota for 16 years, all faultless & IF there is any problem you can rely on Lexus/Toyota to put it right ( unlike other manufacturers ), I think I can comment like this working on cars for the last 30 years, 90% of cars are terrible now, European & mainly German cars are doggy do, terrible unreliable high maintenance expensive cars to run. NO thanks I'll stick with Japanese in Toyota & Lexus. Good video guys.

My parents have a 2011 Prius that I've driven a few times, and I recently test drove a 2012 CT 200h, and to me it felt way better than a Prius, even though they're essentially the same type of car. Lots of similarities, but way different. I've also driven a 2014 LS 460 and I gotta say, besides the obviously big difference in ride smoothness, the CT 200h is extremely similar to even the high end Lexus models. And I love that. So I think I'm gonna get one. Subscribed by the way! Great video.
+Brad Doan Thank you very much for your support, Brad Doan. We truly appreciate it! As you saw in the video, we were rather impressed by the driving characteristics of the CT and while the powertrain may have some similarities with the Prius, the suspension couldn't be any more different, which is why it drives so differently. In case you haven't seen it yet, Chris did a review of the 2013 Lexus LS 460 F SPORT a number of years ago. (We think it was only the 3rd official review AutoAcademics ever did. Ah, those were the days.) Check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VRn5dQJfs5M.html. Thanks for watching, and again for subscribing!
I love mine , 2012 Special Edition in the fastest color Gray Nebula. 42mpg yr round 44 in the summer and 40 in the winter months. Also the F-Sports handle like a dream. I run Nokian Hakka R3's for the winter. They transform the CT from bad in the snow to excellent in the snow. I also have a NX200t F-Sport we love our Lexus's reliability and customer service is the best. - zero issues...
+Tom VanHoesen Sounds like Lexus is all good in your household, Tom VanHoesen. It's good to hear owners' personal experiences. Thank you for sharing and thanks for watching, too!
It’s a great car for me. Fuel is currently $3.34L and I get incredible distance despite paying $100 to fill up. It really sux for large fuel tank cars costing $217 (US$133) to fill up 65L(17gallons) of Fuel.
Thank you very much for the kind words, leroyjr9. We truly appreciate them. Feel free to comment back on here is you get one. We'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for watching!
I've commented on this video before saying that I want this car, and I just got it almost a month ago. I got the 2014 ct200h fsport, and I love it, but there are some downsides to it. The one thing I don't like the most is how loud it is when going uphill. It's really loud and kind of awkward when someone's sitting in your car and the only sound is your car trying to chug up the hill. I also do not like the ports for the USB and cigarette plug. The little door on it is awkward especially if you want to use the cigarette plug because it has to stay open. I personally don't like it because it makes the console look messy and unorganized. There's also only one cigarette plug, which sucks because I wanted to install a dash cam but having the port door open all the time will bug me. I do love driving this car, though. It's so beautiful inside and out (especially with the fsport grille)
Allison Litt did you test drive the trim below it? If so, what's the hp difference? Thinking of getting one of these and I drive a 200hp vehicle and this is a major difference lol
ive had the car for over a year. i rate it 8/10 very bad blind spot though.. i average anywhere from 37 to 43mpg.. i wish they didnt discontinue it.. if they fix the blind spot, add blind spot monitoring and make the monitor bigger and better.. it would rate it 9/10 almost perfect.. im going to be trading it in soon.. the new camry gets 50 mpg..
Great review - I own a 2013 and the review is spot on in discussing the many pluses and very few minuses the car has. Want to echo the other comment that let's not understate how reliable and trouble free these cars are - peace of mind. Look forward to more reviews.
I was really considering going for this, but i bought an Audi A6 instead 2.0 tdi. Out of town I get 5.1 to 6.3 fuel consumption, a little higher if I really push it or high speed highway which will go to about 7.5. My average for 10k km is 8.6 given that in a very crowded city I get from 9 to 14 L/100km, which can be a little on the high side for some people. I am a big fan of the lexus CT, but having so little power was something i really had to consider. 170 hp on a 1.7 ton car is not fast, but it's decent over the CT which is lacking in the performance department. The Is with the 2.5 hybrid is much nicer to drive, but a lot more expensive on the second hand market. I like how they put more power with the new Prius and I expect Lexus to come with higher power as well and even better design, cause the quality it's surely there. In some regards, the interior is better quality than the A6 of 2005-2011 generation, not with the same generation, but pretty damn close. I like it how it also drives very similar to an Audi in terms of overall feeling, like a smaller/low power version of an Audi. Overall nice car for mostly city driving and very reliable in doing so.
Looks like a nice car. Appears to me to be a repackaged Prius where the focus on economy has been shifted to luxury and sporty feel for a chunk more money. I just bought a used Prius, and have a 98 ES300. The Prius is not a Lexus but it doubles the mpg. If One were to compare the tire width of a Prius to the CT 200H, there is a huge difference.
Yeah. While both are hybrids, this is a different market than the Prius, Daniel Rose. Although, the newer versions of the Prius are definitely taking steps in the right direction. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RpOSJE3sROY.html Thank you for your comments and for watching!
It's worth buying, if you keep it serviced it will last forever. I have a 2,000 is200 that looks and drives better than most new cars. I'm going to get an is300 next year and I'll pass the is200 on to my son , I expect it to last another 20 years because it's so well built.
I have a 2013 Cth and it is the best car I've had in the City of Toronto (Last three cars, BMW 535i, BMW 525i, Benz S (1999)). It's the coolest most efficient car I have had that kills it in traffic. This is a city car that is fun to drive (F Sport) and economical. Sorry Germany I am hooked on Lexus Hybrid. Thanks for the post
The ride is smooth, Patrick Cowley, but it's tuned more toward the sporty side than the soft and luxurious side of the large LS. Also, we recorded this outside of Atlanta, GA. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
@@AutoAcademics I really appreciate you letting me know!! Also thanks for letting me know the location, that area is so beautiful and seems perfect for making videos, I need to see more of America. Wishing you all the best these Holidays!!
How’s the seating position on this thing? I drove Uber for 6 years in a Prius and the seat posture gave me GERD, believe it or not. I’d like another hybrid but I can’t sink in the chair.
Have a 2014 Lexus CT200h Bought it 3 years ago, and I absolutely love it. Already at 77k miles. Only issue is the door lock actuators. Have had issues with 2, and replaced 1. Otherwise, great mileage. Looks great. Drives like a dream. Of course you won’t get much space or power, but it’s way more than enough for me. Love it. Would highly recommend it to anyone!
Yes! Both my driver’s and passenger’s door lock actuators shit the bed. Lucky for me, they were covered under the L/Certified warranty. Mine’s a 2015. Seven years and 60,000 mi. in, it’s the _perfect_ commuting car, especially here in Southern California.
I have a 2012 Fsport w 96k miles. It has a minor squeak in the front end when it's cold but other than that it's been perfect. I drive mostly highway and I average 53-55mpg in the summer and abt 47-49 in the cold winter months. Great vehicle.

This would be a good car to replace my parents aging Lexus ES 300. They don’t care about how fast it goes , how it handles , or how quick it gets to 60( practically takes forever), so this would be a good fit for them... because they aren’t car enthusiasts.
Maybe 101 times will be the charm? LOL In all seriousness, Allison Litt, hang in there. If it's something that you want that bad, you'll figure out a way to accomplish it (hopefully, legally, that is). It may take a few sacrifices, but you can make it work. Just keep an eye on the preowned market. Something good that you can work with might just come up. Thank you 100x for watching!
3:16 that's a quality door sound. Also I hear everybody talk about the CVT drone when you accelerate, is it really that bad? I have a diesel Audi and when I accelerate hard it sounds like a tractor so is that any better? Anyway great review thumbs up from me.
Yeah, those CT 200s do have good door seals, Adam Perkins. While many diesels do sound like tractors under load, the drone from a CVT is different because it never shifts gears. Typically, it sounds like you're running the 4-cylinder engine too hard at a steady 4,000 rpm without ever shifting. Thankfully, many manufacturers are programming artificial shift points in their CVTs to appease those of us who don't care for it. We appreciate your comments. Thanks for watching!

+Neal Jalal As far as we are aware, the CT200h is a reliable vehicle, Neal Jalal. Its powertrain is based on the Prius, vehicles that have seen very high mileages over the years with minimal issues. You will probably have to contend with some minor wear and tear on interior trim pieces, eventually, but overall the car should be fairly durable. If you have not done so yet, please consider SUBSCRIBING to our channel. We can use all the support we can get. Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching, too!
+Neal Jalal Older models are almost identical to the newer ones. The only differences are cosmetics and some of the tech stuff. I was able to snag a moderately-equipped 2012 with 18k miles on it for $23k a few months back. I highly recommend going used on the CT.
Nice review man. I'm a college student and I really want a car that is going to be reliable for more than 5 years and a gas saver. I'm thinking between this Lexus CT, the new honda hatchback or Mazda 3 hatchback. I can't decide lol
Well, while the CT will get you good fuel economy, keep in mind the cost of ownership. Owning a Lexus will be slightly more expensive than a Honda or Mazda. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Ha! We can't argue with that, Ashrid Hussan. Unfortunately, the CT 200h is strictly a hybrid. But who knows what the future holds. Thank you for your comments and thanks for watching!
I notice you had a baby car seat in the back , but didn't mention it. We are currently in the market for a hatchback commuter car , that can safely and easily transport a young child. We test drove the ct200h today and for the most part were happy with it. Although , in Sport mode , I expected more power than it gave us. What are your thoughts about this car being a daily driver for a Mom and her baby?
Hi, Travels & Chases. Yes, Chris' (our presenter) kids are still in car/booster seats so you'll see them in the videos from time to time. That front facing seat worked fine in the back of the CT 200h. We wouldn't call it spacious, since the seat did have to be moved slightly closer than an average-sized front passenger might like, but it wasn't terrible. Depending upon the size of your car seat, the contour of the rear seats might require a little adjustment during installation and Chris did have to remove the headrest, too, but it wasn't out of the ordinary what for what we've done with other test vehicles. So with all that being said, the car worked fine with the car seats, but if you're looking for something with more power, this is still a traditional hybrid powertrain that focuses on fuel efficiency over all else. The CT 200h handles decently, but the Sport button primarily keeps the car from going into electric mode only. Overall, it would be a fine car for Mom and her baby, so long as she doesn't like to engage in stoplight to stoplight drag races. We appreciate your comments and we hope we were able to help. Thanks for watching!
My 2012 doesn't have that brake issue. The regenerative to disc transition is nearly seamless. I can hear it when the radio and AC are off, but I can't really feel it unless the rotors are wet.
Great review man, I have been seriously considering trading in my '17 Jeep Compass Sport for one of these. I've been wanting a 4 door hatchback for some time now. Anybody have any other good recommendations that would be a competitor for this class?
Thank you for your comments C. LeBlanc. And unfortunately, in response to your question, we can't think of any other true hatchbacks from luxury brands, other than BMW's GT models. On the lesser expensive end there are quite a few to choose from, some of which we've reviewed (Veloster, Mazda3, Civic, etc.). Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Also, I'd like to add the VW GTI, and Golf R hold their resale value a little better. This Lexus starts over 30g, but you can pick it up used for near half that now.
We've expressed our lack of affection toward the CVT transmission many times in other videos, Eddie Da Silva, so I guess Chris figured he'd give it a rest in this review. As was mentioned, the engine droned under power. Besides that, the transmission performed very similar to other CVTs on the market today, i.e. - good for fuel economy, but not much else in our opinion. Hope this helps. We appreciate your comments and thanks for watching, too!
That's difficult to say, Mikael Verstegen. Being a hybrid, we'd be curious how well the battery is maintaining its charge. If that can be checked out and verified that it's in good working condition then the rest would be usual pre-owned car stuff -- making sure mechanical/electrical bits are in good order and that the price is competitive with similar cars in your area. Sorry we can't help more, but thanks for watching!
I wouldn't be concerned about the battery as much as the egr system getting clogged at that mileage (pretty much the only problem with these cars). cost about 1k to swap out the parts. If you don't you risk blowing the head gasket.
+Sadpants McGee Yeah, that comes across a little confusing, Sadpants McGee, which is why we added the caption on the bottom of the screen during that part. The 44.4 was the best overall average (since reset), where the 54.2 was the daily (1 day) average that AutoAcademics was able to achieve. We were very proud of that number, since Chris (our presenter) typically has bricks for feet. Hope this clears things up and thanks for watching!
+Sadpants McGee When I saw that I was curious. I thought it must mean best avg per tank. My Camry Hybrid automatically measure avg mpg per tank, but doesn't remember it.
This car would have sold like hotcakes had they offered a 1.8 l turbo non hybrid version. Don't get me wrong I drive one but certainly miss the acceleration of a gas only engine but enjoy the mileage.
Just off the top of our heads (i.e. - no hard data to refer to), we think this CT 200h might offer better piece of mind due to the Lexus brand's reliability record, Jeffrey van der Post. We haven't driven an A3 e-tron yet, but we do know that Audis drive very well, in general, so we'd expect nothing different from the e-tron. Sorry we couldn't be of more help, but thanks for watching!
I test drove a luxury version a year back and was left a little cold; it lacks power & finesse. However after reading through the reviews I missed out on the F-sport version which I initially assumed to be a appearance package that it included a much better suspension setup. I liked the efficiency of the Prius powertrain but that car just looks terrible & drives like an appliance. Later down the road I want to give the F-sport version a spin; if it handles well enough I can let the lack of power (and amazing fuel efficiency) slide.
Yes, first and foremost you have to realize that this is a hybrid, not a performance car with a hybrid powertrain. Once that is understood, you can appreciate the fact that it drives better than many garden-variety hybrids do. It's not going to be any faster, but good handling traits can make a big difference in the driving enjoyment of a car. An example of this can be found in our review of the 2016 Jetta 1.8T SEL: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EMtNp2AFUwA.html. Check it out if you get the chance. Thanks for sharing and for watching, too!
right lets look a reviewing cars , but we know nothing about them .. i.e brakes , they use regen thats why they are like that !! mpg is low because you have to change your driving technique 40 mpg !!! my wife gets 34.4 out of a lexus is 250 auto !
Please compare Lexus CT 200h 14/15 with Honda Civic 2016 because the peoples know to buy a Brand new Honda civic or Used Lexus CT 200h is better then new Honda
Unfortunately, we aren't big enough yet to request specific vehicles at specific times, Haji Sahib. LOL But we'll keep that in mind if the opportunity ever does arise. We would like to say that the Honda Civic and the Lexus CT 200h are different types of vehicles so that should be narrowed down first. Cost of ownership will be higher on the Lexus and the Civic is not available with a hybrid powertrain yet. Hope this helps and if you haven't done so already, please consider subscribing so that you'll know if and when we get that comparison test together. Thanks for watching!
