Awesome video man! Thank you so much! My loaded mid-2015 MBP all of a sudden died one day and then got stuck in a boot loop any time I plugged in the power cord. It did not run on the battery at all and I cannot open into safe mode or any other mode, it just was stuck in a boot loop. I took it to Apple a few weeks ago and they reloaded the OS but said it was stuck in a boot loop and the logic board was shot. I mentioned that the battery was also shot and asked if that could be the reason for the boot loop. They told me no way it’s definitely the logic board. So I decided to pay $85 for a battery from OWC, installed it, and the computer fired right up with no problems. Amazing that even Apple could not diagnose the boot loop problem. However, Apple did know that the battery was bad but told me that replacing the battery would not fix the problem. Really appreciate the video, thanks again! 😁👍

You, sir, are a genius and saved me an incredible amount of time. I was completely perplexed, because it just doesn't make sense why it would be designed this way.

So glad I found this video. Same issue - mid 2015 MBP that I continually had on the wall charger due to running under heavy load with a battery in unhealthy state for over 2 years. Finally resulted in an endless boot loop which three Apple techs told me had nothing to do with the battery's inability to hold sufficient charge. I popped the bottom cover off and saw that a few of the battery cells were badly swollen. My plan was to buy an iFixit battery kit for US$110, but decided to skip the hassle and have Apple do the repair. In the end, I opted for a genuine Apple battery and 90 day warranty. I would add that the repair included a full replacement of the top deck, including the keyboard. Easily worth the extra $89 for me. Thanks again.

Wow, thanks so much for this ! My mid 2012 A1398 MacBook Pro is doing the exact same thing ! My battery needs to be replaced as it doesn't power on the mac. I have a new battery coming tomorrow. Will post back here we results. Funny thing is that it boots into safe mode. My guess is when the MacBook switches over to the Nvidia graphics card, more power is needed causing the system to reboot since there is no/defective battery.

literally the exact EXACT same scenario with my 2015 Macbook. Bloated battery. it has done a continuous bootloop. I have spent money on new drives and charger and to no avail, it wouldn't work. I had thought maybe that it was my battery, but i thought, surely not, because I have the power cable connected to it. This answers my question/concern if it was the bad battery causing the bootloop. Thank you for making this video.

I've checked the battery and some of them got inflate, so I decided to mount a new battery from aftermarket, but even with a new one I still have the problem... I think is useless to go to Apple only to be told the problem is the logic board...

Thanks for the video Alex. I have a few Apple MBPs and iPads and in general, I love them. As soon as I heard that you had a boot-loop problem, it reminded me of a similar boot-loop problem I had with an early iPad. Not sure where I got this information (it could have been from the 9th Dimention...lol) but after researching a bit, I discovered that the boot-loop could be fixed by changing the battery on the ipad. Whether this situation has been created by design or not, I don't know. Cheers

My 15 inch mid 2015 macbook pro does have liquid "damage", but EVERYTHING was working perfectly except for the battery. I know for sure because for a long time I could turn it on and use it with the power connected. Then one day it started doing the boot loop out of the blue. In a few days I am replacing the battery and will see if that works. Keyboard, fans, memory, speakers, everything else is working fine.

Macbook Pro mid 2015, already replaced the battery (new and working well) but after the latest update on Catalina, a boot loop happens but the screen also flickers/screen change color randomly and does not boot correctly when flickering/different color but after it reboots with the correct black background screen it can boot correctly. The next time you use it and boot it up, it will go the same process again and wait for it to get the correct background after having several random screen flicking and changes in screen colors - 30 minutes to 1 hour it will do that way. When it boots correctly, it is usable like any computer as if nothing happens. Booting to recovery hoping to reinstall it will only give a circle with diagonal line like a no entry sign. Booting with Linux as it is dual boot will also go to the same process of random flicking/different screen colors (before the OS is even loaded) until it reboots to a normal working color and screen behavior then it can boot correctly but it also have this correct color and no flickering before the operating system can take over but cannot continue to work even when the operating system is already up, screen goes blank that you have no control at all other than you have to power it down and power it up again. If I do not turn it off while (whole day or more) at working state, it will work just fine the whole time. I suspect something related to Catalina is not working well as the last update have something to do with graphics for new models. There are times it can boot in Catalina but you can only run one program, running another program will cause the programs non responsive, you can force quit each program but you can no longer lunch anything until only the mouse pointer is the only thing you can control. I am still using the Macbook Pro mid 2015 (bought in December 2015) posting this message and on Linux but I have to wait for that right moment it can boot correctly. No heating issue. No performance issue other than when you power it up to use it that you have to wait a long series of boot loops. Battery was replaced already twice as replacement can only last a year and bloats again.
@kurtrichardson5964

Yeah think different. The 2013 runs with or without the battery but the 2015 has different power sensors on the board so if the logic board sensors are not seeing a certain amount of Amps it will shut it down. And at that point it just retry's to boot

Hi Northbridge , thanks for the video , I am having a 820-00168 and no schematics or boardview so I spent 3 days on this problem it was driving me crazy . No liquid damage or drop and still bootloop , the only difference is mine is bootlooping even when the battery is disconected and I sometimes get some white textlines instead of the apple ... the power supply is going crazy as well , from 0.200 A to 1.6 A and switching all the time up and down....I am afraid I have to give up soon .... The weird thing is when the board is out of the case its working and it is stable on 0.8 A... any ideas ? :)

well the 2015 has a completely different trackpad, its the force touch (I think thats what its called, but it has more in common with 2016 and up than prior). all 2016 and up MacBooks won't start if battery has failed, and that seems to be a common theme for apple portable devices, you MUST have a good working battery for computer to work properly.

I'm guessing it has something to do with GPU requiring a lot of power. So much power it can't get it from the power adapter alone. I've seen other electronic devices that won't work without a battery plugged in.

I have fixed my boot loop on my 15" 2016 MBP. Start the laptop, hold down CMD + R (for Recovery Mode) Click on Install new System My account and all my data is still there. I don't know what caused it but you should try this out before deleting something.

I was able to get mine into recovery mode and either did first aid or disk image. My computer is working THX!! It was loading about 1/10 of the way then reboot. Over and Over. Mid 2015 15 in 2.8. I have another doing the same thing, can't wait to mess with it. Cheers!

I have this problem (boot loop) on my mid 2015 MacBook Pro w/retina. Prior to the boot loop issue, I had just swapped out a bad (swollen) battery & trackpad w/ flex cable. Laptop worked fine for about 2-3 weeks. Then, after a minor drop...the boot loop started. The drop was no more than 18 inches- 2ft (off office chair seat onto a padded laminate floor) and suffered no physical damage that could be detected. Immediately after the fall I turned it on was able to boot up to the user’s log in but, eventually it went into boot loop. I noticed during the boot loop the heatsink would get too hot to touch. I also noticed if the charger would disconnect at the magsafe, it would automatically “restart” the boot loop...like it powered off then on again. Any ideas on that scenario?
