Great video! I'm going to now change my wife's oil on her cx-5. Thanks for the video. It's also nice to see how easy it is to get to the plugs as well. When the time comes that is.
Great video, been taking our CX-5 to the dealer as I have no garage but may need to do this fumoto setup. Question for you, have you jacked this thing up to put jack stands on it yet? where exactly underneath by the plastic panels do you jack it up in order to place the jack stands in the pinch welds?
Good guide. I would suggest filling the oil and double checking the plug/valve and filter for leaks before putting the access cover back on the bottom. It could save you a huge mess of having to clean the entire belly pan if something isn't seated right.
How's the fumoto holding up? One note, you actually torque the fumoto to a different spec than a stock plug, because it's brass. The fumoto 106-N for the Mazda CX5 gets torqued to 18 foot pounds. They have a torque guide on their site for all different models. You did a really nice job on the video!
on 2015 mazda 6. 4.75 qts does the trick with filter prefilled. You will come up a hair short on the stick which is NOT a bad thing since the marks indicate an operational RANGE. don't forget fluids expand when heated and the missing fluid when hot will put you near full. Also i prefill filters to avoid blow out of the media when ever possible. the only downside to the easy drain valve can be angry friends that know you have it and will drain your car. the other downside of the valve is not being able to attach a neodymium magnet to it to trap metal particles.
Thank you for posting this video! I'll be changing the oil on our CX-5 this weekend. I was wondering if there was any particular reason why you changed the filter before draining the pan. I was taught to drain the pan first and then change the filter. Is there anything special about the CX-5 that would necessitate changing the filter first?
Amar Gala I was taught the same... and I was wondering the same. In the grand scheme of things I can't imagine it would hurt to do it either way. One way may just be more messy than the other.
Good job! The tourqe app would tell you what temp the motor is when that blue light goes out. On my gti, the needle starts to move right at 124 degrees. I think these days all temperature gauges should be digital, I don't get it..
MATT BURGESS from my experience with cars, digital gauges for things like coolant temp kind of defeats the purpose. You'd have to look at it regularly and establish norms before you'd notice anything was amiss. Analog gauges this process is much easier. It is much easier to see a needle that is not where it's supposed to be than it is to look at a coolant temp readout and then have to determine if the temp is high, low, or just right. Granted, OEM temp gauges are pretty bad to begin with, so a "better" digital gauge would help.
doh... i can find out when i get home in a few hours. i just put the drain plug in my car parts box yesterday.. an 8mm allen rings a bell, but i will check again later today to make sure.
The oil light is right next to the illuminated brake light icon on your dash. It just never lights up in your video or in my experience when changing my '16 CX-5 oil. Its just a dummy light unfortunately.
thanks for the great video very nice and informative. I was wanting to know where you buy the castrol large bottles. Having a hard time finding it, also what did you have to pay for it?
You can buy these 5 quart jugs very affordably at Walmart. Castro 5 quart jug of 0w20 is $25 at my local. Pennzoil $22, and other brands like Mobil 1, Valvoline similar in cost.
Hey, what is the allen key size for the drain plug? Can I use any ordinary allen key or do I need those special long ones attached to a wrench for more leverage ?
LastHumansGarage No worries thanks. I just purchased the new Mazda 3 2.5L, wondering if the dealership will know if I changed the oil myself in between intervals assuming I use the exact same oil filter. ?
Hi I have a question anyone could help i live in NSW Sydney i have a 2018 2.2 turbo diesel mazda done 55000kms CX5 the car was showing dpf warning light the mazda cx5 has been taken 3 times to mazda car workshop dealer they have changed the DPF sensor and checked car all around and they done a full report test. The was repaird but the issue still has come again with the same problem the Next day DPF warning light What could it be please.
Any idea what the size of the belly panel screws are? I know you used a screwdriver, but I thought I would just pick up a nutdriver, since I find them convenient to use.
Great vid! 👍 Quick question! Is there a maintenance required light indicator on 2015 cx5? If yes how do you reset it? Just wonderin coz i would like to do my own oil change.. Thanks
Bojie 1981 I don't believe so. Certain manufacturers have these service lights that only an "authorized technician" can reset. My Mazda does not have one. HOWEVER, I drive a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3. I'll be changing my girlfriends 2014 CX-5's oil this weekend... so I'll be finding out for sure if there is a service light or not.
Did an oil change last weekend i put with M1 with oem filter. Call the about the maintenance reqrd indicator and they said there is none on touring and sport onlt GT.
I bought all the supplies last few weeks, today when I was doing my oil change, i notice that my arms couldn't reach to the belly cover, now I need a jack, and I'm giving up.
i cant reply to cindy, no reply link., hopefully she sees this. I bought my oil jug off amazon. mainly because it has free shipping. $36.99 shipped. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JGQLZJ4
