2015 Mustang GT Stock Intake vs. Boss Intake Dyno Test

Here is a back to back test of the Boss Intake vs the Stock Intake on a 2015 Mustang GT. Only tune changes were to account for deleting the IMRCs which are part of the 2015 Stock Intake. This test was done to test high RPM output vs. the stock intake. The results show large gains up top. This new power curve should be faster at the track and at times you can keep the RPM up. The stock intake would mostly likely perform better from a stop on the street. The Boss intake does not fit under a stock hood without modifications.

I put a Boss 302 intake on my '13 GT along with a BBK 90mm throttle valve. Also I run stock headers with off road x-pipe and a tune of course.. The difference on full throttle redline pulls are pretty great, from the butt dyno. Even here you can see about 40 hp increase above 7200 rpm and the power stays steady after 6500 rpm. My car seems to really explode in power around the 5200-5500 mark. When doing full throttle redline pulls in 1st, 2nd and 3rd the car only drops to 5 grand or so and back up to your chosen redline. I redline mine at 7200 max since the clutch sticks above that. In my opinion the intake is a great mod for showing the max acceleration of the car and under the hood appearance. Even after more than a year I still say "man this pulls up top" (different language though) when I "put the pedal to the metal"...LOL.

American Muscle recently tested 2015 stock intake vs boss in the 1/4 mile... Stock was faster... so glad i saved myself the money.

I don't need to join a forum, I raced them back to back with the appropriate tune and rev limiter change and I know which one is faster. Boss intakes give up way too much down low to be faster in a drag race, it's called power under the curve. S197's are too heavy to give up the midrange and be faster. The only thing they're better at is evenly distributing nitrous

I beat up on boss intake cars a lot with a stock intake,with a ported opening just behind the throttle body,ford left an awful lot of crap/junk in the way behind the blade......trust me its worth the time to remove the intake-clean it up and re-install

Lund Racing I'm curious if the hood would fit with the Boss 302 intake and the Steeda adjustable engine mounts at their lowest positions. Would a strut tower fit or is that out of the question?

Those intakes were designed for two different engines..although they do share the same 5.0 engine block..internals are very different..(the head for the Boss has been ported, etc, etc..)

+Tappedurassout The IMRCs work very well at producing more torque at lower rpms by partially closing intake ports and increasing velocity of air flowing into the heads. The Boss intake allows for a higher rev limit because it increases air flow with shorter runners. The stock intake works best for a street car on the 2015 gts.

The rods are forged. Rods arent the issue. 7400rpm can be safely run with stock manifold. Once you go over 7500 you have oil pump gear reliability issues. So you need that upgraded if the boss intake is added and plan on running 8krpm.

+Matthew D gotcha. I thought the rods in the gt were powder coated & the boss had forged internals. for that reason , i have always heard the gt is only good for approximately 500 hp safely.

thanks for the comparison. i think the cobra jet intake u gain hp and torque than on the boss. But not sure with the 2015 if the price vs hp gain is worth it... I'm going to stick with a cai, tune and exhaust.

Not worth the price for that particular configuration. Performance on the street would likely take a hit. The Boss would probably perform better in the 1/4 mile. I would put my money on the Stock intake on a road course/track day scenario.

2011 is the first year of the 5.0 so 2011-15 5.0s boss n cobra jet intakes fit.

ok wait, the stock 15 was supposed to only have like 5 hp more than the 14 and that's at the crank, how is this possible that it's clearly more or is it due to less loss at the wheels? still can't be though... oh well

RepoDraghon From idle to about 6000 rpm the 15 makes about a solid 20-25 more whp than the 11-14, above 6k its about 15whp. The motor has better heads, cams, and intake so it responds a little better to mods. This one has other mods and a tune, thats why the stock run is high. Normally bone stock they have been dynoing around 380-390whp for manual and 365-380 for auto

The boss is better for lap time that the stoke so it doesn't need a lot of torque or you might over steer in the corners it's fun but not good for lap times

I think the modern Camaro 6 speeds are double overdrive as well so 4th is 1:1.

Mike StClair Says it has intake, full exhaust, and tune. Remember this is a 15 5.0. Basically a boss 302 motor on the inside so it responds well to mods and picks up a lot from just a tune

I have a 2015 roush rs2 with American Racing long tube headers and high flow cats and x pipe with a roush axel back and a airaid CAI with a Bama 93 octane performance tune and it's totally bad a×× . the tune made a huge difference in HP . I have cooper rs3-3 performance tires before the tune I could just stand on the gas with little wheel spin but now with the tune it spins a lot. got to learn to leave hard with out spinning. does the steeda wheel hop fixes give you more traction any one know?

dmxmike2 I have the IRS bushing support kit and it helped but didn't eliminate completely, its an easy mod for the money. The only time I ever wheel hop is when using launch control though, regular launching is fine

This manifold is fantastic for a car that will see a lot of track time, with a centrifugal blower and an automatic. Each gear change will keep it up there in the powerband. Could possibly make it more streetable if a proper cam combo was made for the build. Especially with the gears from the Performance Pack, the 3.73’s would keep it up there nice. For those saying about your lose power on the street, sorry, the vids glorify the street racing but it should be kept off the streets. Too many racers getting arrested and even a few people getting killed. 🇺🇸💪👍🦅

well unless im getting Alzheimers red equals stock blue boss......right? ok well red/stock made more power and torque through the whole curve minus the extra rpm they added for the boss intake? therefore average is moot because the stock mani was not revved to 8k ....... average seems to be a dumb selling point. could say hey look you get to revv out to 8k and not LOSE power. unless im am losing my mind. feel free to correct me

Keep in mind this is untuned and the boss 302 isn't meant for straight line power alone. The power here is much more linear and more usable when cornering is in the equation. This is a very functionally designed manifold...So yes for you straight line guys this probably is not very useful.

+Fivespeed 302 The stock intake manifold has charge motion control valves that are partially closed at lower RPMs. They increase the velocity of incoming air in turn increasing lower end torque. The Boss 302 manifold does not have these valves. Hopefully a new intake manifold will be released with the charge valves for the 2015+ model year.

I get gains from my boss 302 honestly. Car feels much faster than when I had the stock manifold. You do lose torque but the other mods like headers fix that up a bit,plus the CAI.

Hardly seems worth it, only a 7hp more average with an additional 800 rpms. I have a boss intake on my 12 and will soon be going back to a stock intake. When I do the motor, heads, cams, etc, THEN I may do a cobra jet I take.

It is way more helpful then you think, think of where the rpms drop when you shift. With the boss you can operate between 6k-8k rpms when wide open, and with the stock intake more like 5k-7k rpm. With the boss intake youre pretty much always at peak power instead only reaching peak power once and then dropping off with the stocker. 7 hp means alot when youre making 440whp from 6300-8000rpm instead of just 435 from 6300-6700 and then have it die off

smokeum12 I believe the stock intakes on the 2015's are slightly different from the 11 to 14 stangs. There is more to be had from a Boss intake on the 11-14's than the 15's. I could be wrong tho, but check the facts for youself to make sure.

Revving to 8000 rpm could've easily blown the engine with stock internals. Pretty stupid and pointless.

With the forged rods, just fine every once in a while. For insurance just needs oil pump gears. These motors are meant to rev.
