He was done, mentally. Gave up the entirety of 2016 to beat Lewis. I don't know about you, but giving up a whole year of your life for your job has gotta be tough.
Everyone’s mentioning how Lewis got robbed of his win in Malaysia, and while that’s true, no one mentions how Nico got taken out, then fought his way back to third in the same race
@@garvsabbarwal3000 Just the same as 2008. Just proves even without Hamilton at the helm, Mercedes would always be dominant. Hamilton isn't an important part of that equation, which is just precious.
@@toothlessrage282 yep. Its just that having Lewis made Mercedes job easier. tbh Mercedes preparing early for the hybrid era made them an invincible force.
Nico's strong side was consistency. People say that he won with less poles and wins - yes he did. Some win due to talent, some due to hard work and some luck. His father Keke had only 5 wins in his career and still he was World Champion due to consistent driving.
Rosberg was genuinely talented. Just because Hamilton, one of the fastest drivers ever, had a little edge over him, doesn't mean Rosberg wasn't super fast. It's not black and white, most drivers would be a handful of tenths per lap off Hamilton and they wouldn't even give him a challenge.
Rosberg was really consistent in 2016.Even though Hamilton had bad reliability and luck,it was Rosberg who capitalised on opportunities unlike Vettel in 2018.
@@alexm.s4000 17 & 18 just shows how good Rosberg was. I've vouched for him as long as I can remember. Hamilton is just a cry baby. I just hope Ricciardo has enough support to win 2019 .
Ragzz Why do people immediately think that just because Rosberg won the championship he’s supposed to be a better driver than Hamilton. He won that one year and that was enough.
I always smile at the radio exchange between Nico Rosberg and his wife at the end of the race. Nico had pushed himself to new boundaries in 2016 and he got what he had always wanted, the championship. Hearing him and his wife share the joy was so emotional because Nico is a really nice guy.

Vettel actually shielded Rosberg from Verstappen who we know at that time would not have thought for a second before diving down the inside or outside of Rosberg taking them both out.
This should be obvious to everyone because, at that time, Vettel was the only 4xWDC on the grid and helping Hamilton become a 4xWDC as well would have meant that Vettel no longer had bragging rights as the then current most successful driver on the grid. Vettel clearly had zero intention of helping Hamilton join him as a 4xWDC at Abu Dhabi 2016.
@@MT-pv2rf I'd also wager that Vettel was disgusted by Hamilton's unsporting behaviour, hence his refusal to play along. He also probably didn't want to deprive his felloe countryman of a WDC title. I tend to be reasonably positive about HAM, but his actions there were indefensible.
@@tetragon2137 Hm, I don't know about unsporting behavior, as Vettel has done things in the past like ignore team orders for personal gain. I do believe that he did want rosberg to win though. to be on the podium with a compatriot winning a WDC must've been nice.
@@tetragon2137 You’re talking as if Hamilton had secretly unscrewed some bolts on Rosberg’s car. Holding the pace down to keep pressure on your championship rival is not unsporting behaviour, it’s racecraft. He didn’t cause dangerous situations because of this, so why do you call it unsporting and indefensible?
This guy deserved to win the championship the most that season. Even if some people consider him "weak", in my opinion he is one of the most honest and authentic F1 drivers I have ever seen.
I got the impression the other day that Rosberg admitted he wasn't quite as talented as Hamilton and that trying to beat him was super frustrating. But that just commands even more admiration and respect for the fact that he made it. At least from me. The fact that he could pull himself together with enough discipline to beat one of the best ever, and someone who he himself thought was more naturally talented than him. (Even though it was with a little luck, but so had Hamilton in 2008 for example). It's insanely impressive, and a huge inspiration to anyone. As one gets older, one recognizes that hard work and discipline is much more impressive and admirable than natural talent.
I dont care if he just had luck. u gonna tell me that a incompetent driver can also be a world champ simply because of luck ? He was consistent and patient.
Yea Lewis is a great driver and i do agree he is one of the best drivers, but personally if u ask me my answer would be Alonso. He consistently outperforms his car and teammate. And Vandoorn is not a crappy driver either. But you can relate for Nico lil bit because he had to climb his way to his championship(not saying Lewis didnt, but lewis has a lil bit easier with most of his career in the best car)
Quinkos Vaine Alonso and Hamilton are magnificent, but the only time you can properly compare the two was when they were teammates, getting the same points, but in Hamilton's first season. I know the team favoured Hamilton, but Alonso played dirty tricks, like that of Hungary and the pitstop scinario. Alonso is certainly more aggressive and better to watch, but Hamilton I would say is faster and overall better, but it pisses me off when he has his down times, like so far this season.
Watching this, I don't know how anyone can't be happy for Nico. Shame Lewis fan boys had to completely degrade him and saltily call him the "worst champion ever"
same hamilton who people say he is a deserved 7 time champion? dont bunch everyone who supports a certain driver together, we all have idiots in our circles
@@marco_1909 if you're a Hamilton supporter and you think he didn't deserve 7 titles I have nothing but respect for you sir and I hope you never stub your little toe and get head from your wife/SO everyday
Ik, as a lewis fan this was honestly one of my favorite seasons, while lewis got robbed of Malaysia, i think nico 100% deserved it and I was sad to see him retire
Actually Rosberg was just to far ahead. Vettel could've done a Ricciardo divebomb maybe, but Rosberg defended and only Ricciardo (maybe his teammate aswell) is capable of that type of move.
Albert Wijnkoop Vettel is also capable of that but he doesn't take such big risks..especially not when ur countryman is fighting for the championship..only Verstappen would drive reckless
"Winning a race is luck, Winning the Championship is not." - Please stop crying about Nico who got "lucky". It doesn't matter. All in all Nico was able to get the title. So please, give him the respect he deserves. (Also, I'm not a fan of him...)
So 385 Points were all luck and fully undeserved? Get real man. And even if it was undeserved, who would deserve it? Double-tongued, showmanlike Get-in-there-Lewis?
The most intense race i watched. That team radio message that IT îs critical to pass max and The next turn he attacked Best part!!! Miss you nico! You a winner în life
Going back to watch this after a few years really stokes the memories of that fantastic battle between Lewis and Nico. I was sooo happy for Nico; he fought hard to win that title and to be honest with you, I wasn't that surprised when he "retired" from F1. I would have too! That season was exhausting for me as a fan, I can only imagine how he felt! Pure joy at the end!
We're here 5 years later and there's a chance this could happen with Max and Lewis. The only difference, Lewis' engineer won't need to tell him to speed up if he's leading, he'd do it all on his own..
"Remember, you only need P3" is one of my favourite radio messages. While Lewis is slowing the pack down, Nico just gets that reminder that he doesn't need to do anything risky here.
Lol Hamilton just basically said that in his mind he won the championship, so he really thinks that Mercedes gave Rosberg the title.. Can't even admit he was beaten fair and square, calls himself a sportsman, what a joke.
Well, Hamilton had a ton of engine failures, potentially costing him up to a hundred points. So i dont think hes saying that Mercedes helped Rosberg to a title, i think Hamilton meant that he still was the best driver out of the 2 if he won that race with all the pressure on Both drivers. I do still think its strange to see Hamilton have problems with the engine as the only Mercedes powered car in the field, whereas the german driver in the german car had none, which coincidentally would be very good for the team marketing wise. Also, Rosberg may have complained seeing as he has Done most of the technical development together with Michael Schumacher and has been there since day one, when suddenly this british chav Comes in and takes all the credit. It all seems a bit coincidental to me
That was the day I lost respect for Hamilton. Even if he had succeeded in his tactics of backing Rosberg into the chasing pack in hopes of the latter getting overtaken, would all Hamilton's adoring fans admire such behaviour and applaud a title win by such unsportsmanlike conduct?
I'm not a Hamilton fan but nothing he did was unsporting. He drives to win and will do everything within the rules to do so. That's why he has 7 world championships and chenenzejackson has zero.
I was so happy for Nico! I knew, ever since he drove for Williams, that he would win the world championship. The 2008 Australia and Singapore drives were absolutely fantastic for Nico in a inferior car.
really stoked to hear an actual rock track with real instruments rather than another worn-out typical automotive half time dubstep trancy electronica song
Rosberg was so unlikable outside the car, people said WDC charge destroyed him mentally. I don't care, he beat LuLu, gave us a fight and I can respect that.
