#1 thing you need to know is that it's fucking hideous and has odd proportions compared to the previous elegant regal Q7s... Another Audi styling fail in a recent string of them sadly...
G Man Basically, they could've done just an evolution of the Q7, TT and R8 and it would have been fine but NO ! Let's try some new angular shit they said ! Mercedes have succeed in their design evolution. I think BMW has as well... But Audi and Lexus ? Come on guys, come on...
***** Will put a video on my channel as soon as I test her out. Got the first production slot with my dealer, just waiting for them the be released now, should have it within 9 weeks all going well.
+Alan Surgeoner thanks Alan. next week is the delivery date but should have it in two weeks. just have to have a swivel chair adaption fitted for my disabled 5 year old daughter. there'll be no stopping us then!
Good luck and I hope your daughter enjoys it as much as you will. If it drives like it looks ,hey look out for King of the road and your little Princess
Seems like a lot of people don't like the exterior design. I think it looks pretty cool. Better than a Mercedes at least in my opinion. The new XC90 is a very powerful competitor though.
***** If I take the comparison between 2 different generations of the Q7, I rather said that the 2nd gen is actually looks miles better than the 1st gen. The reason is very simple, the overall front of the 1st gen looks like a fat lad and I don't like it. I would also applied the similar case on the Porsche Cayenne's exterior looks, in which the 1st generation is looked ugly, and Porsche improved it on the 2nd generation. As for the new XC90, it's very much like taking Volvo to the new age while remained true and committed in safety.
Hm, this RU-vid says 2016 Audi Q7. I don't believe Audi made a Q7 in 2016. And the one in the start of the video is definitely NOT a 2015. THat's a 2017-18 grill.
Just ordered last week, I must say the car looks so much better in person, and its really impressive. One problem however it takes so long to get built and delivered.
While a nice car, I really hope Audi will do something about their design language. Their cars have looked the same for the past 20 odd years. No new headlight shape, no new grill shape. Could be cool to see Audi doing a car that isn't exactly like the last one they did, all their cars really do look the same from the front at the moment.
I just don't think it makes Audi's interesting, that's all. They all just seem to look the same, every model in the range. Even the supercar R8 looks about the same, albeit squished. If you take a look at Mercedes or BMW, they have much more varying shapes which I personally find way more interesting.
That's all an opinion. While Audi's do look suave, I think they're just too much alike for me to find them interesting. That is an opinion as well, which is luckily why some people buy Audis. :v
I guess, however that does not change my opinion on Audi's. Designs like Merc or BMW still have that family feel while not being the same through the whole range. Just my two cents.
I drive the 2009 Audi Q7 with the 3.6L VR6 engine and as for weight, I can feel the car rolling quite hard, as if it's about to topple over. Can't wait to see a comparison between the outgoing model and the brand new model
The car is just an expensive on-road SUV, not really of my taste, but the video is brilliant. The editing is on point, neat and simple, I love it. I also loved the powered screen, I want one of those in every car.
I enjoyed the new format of the videos thoroughly, maybe it's not for every video, but the added organization makes the video easily digestible for people that watch this video because they're looking at purchasing the car, not just because they're obsessed with your videos.
Great ,excellent ,marvelous, all excellent well done ..you covered all aspects ..enlightening information i subscribe you for your expertise in depicting a true pics
Over the last few years my perception of Audis quality has gone up.. Marketing maybe? I'm not sure why but now I would put Audi over BMW, a few years back that wouldn't have been the case
That's interesting because overall build quality and interior materials are worse on their cars in the last 4-6 years than the previous gen cars. They're using much more plastic and cheapening parts made in China instead of expensive Bosch ones. Sources: my brother is an Audi mechanic
looks are a matter of subjectivity. Launched in 07, sales of Q7 never really matched up to that of competitors like X5 and GL 450. The current edition (2017 Q7) is so far doing OK, and only time will tell whether people liked it or not.
Xcar always treading the line between enthusiastic editorial and advertorial a little finely, this example has definitely erred on the side of advertorial.
Great review, thanks! With this new model Audi has very effectively hidden the gargantuan size of the Q7, and for that I commend them. Hopefully that goes someway towards ditching "The Whale" tag of the previous model.
No "small" is only an optical illusion. This can has the same height as the old, Q7. It's slightly wider than the old Q7, and is only 0.7cm shorter (about the width of your finger nail). So it's not small at all. The interior is actually significant larger. The weight saving is due to use of lighter material. Go check "2016 Audi Q7 vs BMW X5" video. You'll see the two cars are roughly the same size, with the Q7 being slightly shorter but longer. Again it's roughly the same size as the old Q7. But the designer managed to make it appear shorter than it is via optical illusion.
I think it looks fine externally. Still looks much better than most SUVs/Crossovers out there. I am surprised that audi put glowing blue strips inside. Would think they would put something red or white. Btw, there were no shots of the interior in the back, trunk and/or storage space! Thats the purpose of this SUV!
Nice video but, you should have talk about the 4-steering wheel in the handling part of you video, I understand you my not have this option in the car you were given. It is actually incredible option in this car, it makes it nibble around roundabout we have here in Europe and it makes it so light even more, I've been working for Audi for 4 years driving everyday awesome cars and i have to say the Q7 drives quite nice even-tough i would have love to see an s-tronic gear box in it because let's face it the one in it is not has up to date has the Q7 pretend to be. Thx for the vid
nice video. but what you self driving features is not part of the drive assist package, it's part of the adaptive cruise control, as far as i know. i know this because i almost decided to buy the car in Dubai, but put that on hold, because they only brought the cruise control plus to the Dubai market. no traffic jam assistance, which is part of the adaptive cruise control. D rive assist package does exist in Dubai supplied cars, but as far as i understood, it doesn't include traffic jam assist, correct me if i am wrong please :)
+Anas Sibaii looking back at the video, i am guessing u just meant to say things the assist drivers "driver assist", not what Audi calls the drive assist package as a product
Nice video Drew. Had to chuckle about the "6 child seats" bit though. How exactly do you get yourself and/or any kids in/out of the third row when the second is chock full of car seats? :-)
As far as I know normal station wagons or estates have room, can haul a family and baggage and have a proper car handling...Normal people don't need the high gravity center.
this video looks nice but I would have to judge it for myself to determine the space of vehicle I look at an Infiniti qx80 and they said it was a big vehicle but when I look at it it was not as big as they say my knees were in the dash and the seats did not go back especially for the price they're asking
Everyone that says that the Q7 is that ugly, go on the Configurator and add the S line pack and the black pack. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a looker but it’s certainly not ugly look at the Cayenne.
People, it is simple, the weight reduction comes from all unnecessary kits and bulky body, I agree it does not look like the most predominant on the road but get it one, drive it and get people on Volvos XC90, Land Rover Discovery sport and BMW's X5 eat your dust.

Don´t like this Q7 much, has lost some personality - But whatever many will love it for what it is and what it can do. imo One of the best reviews from Drew, more relaxed little more fun at the right places. For content I was missing a bit more detailing like on cabin feel, road noise etc.
***** Your Welcome NP, but as such I would never expect XCAR to do a full load practicality show, but for this kind of car a few editorial twitches could perhaps be included. Never mind it was a good review by Drew ;).
I still can't unterstand why people prefer SUVs over more nimble estates or more spacious Vans. To sit higher? Why? To look above all other elephant like SUVs? ;-) I will never get into that segment.
Dominik Heidrich I'd say because it's easier to get in and out, get stuff in and out without hurting your back, better clearance for snow and some offroad capabilities and yeah you seat high it's just nice to see things ahead or enjoy a better view, not my priority but I understand it as I used to drive a van around in traffic and you get used to it, it's also better for passengers, in low cars there are no big windows anymore it's all very sporty.
I am not sure about the exterior design. Especially the back end seems pretty boring...it kind of reminds me of a VW. They need to be more brave with their design decisions I think...
I didnt like new q7 either at first glance but im starting to understand AUDI's approach here. The last Q7 was a brackish shouty S.U.V. with more flair than sustance. Audi was trying to compete with the aftermarket renditions of its own designs in Europe. The old Q7 was designed with the U.S. market in mind so Audi ended up making a car to suit style over substance. Not to mention it had terrible reliability. I Owned one : / This version is more conservative and refined. More German so to speak. I would recommend looking at this new model with a fresh perspective to see what this is and not what it isnt.
Next time don't just tell us how much weight has been shifted according to Audi's press release and weigh it yourself. You'd be surprised that even the car's papers lie by 150 kg. Also, the official weight loss can only be explained if a V12 old generation fully loaded is compared to a 2nd generation 2.0 TFSI with an empty gas tank.
The truth is that most of these big luxury SUVs are used daily by wealthy people who do not have more than a passenger, they usually drive such a big car just to show off, alone in the car all day.
I've already expected the huge debate about the Q7's exterior looks. While a few of them don't like it with good reasons, sadly however most people are hating it without the solid reasons or just simply for nothing. Here's what I've thought about the styling of the 2016 Q7: Some of you argue that its looks uglier than It's actually looks better than the first generation, and in my honest opinion, it's a major step forward for Audi in term of styling. The Q7 first generation looks like a fat boy who wanna to tackle everyone he hates, every time I looked at the front of the Q7 1st gen. The styling of the 2nd generation however, is truly representing the Audi's identity. The hexagon grille alone was already existed in Audi's concept cars since 2010, before making it into their production road cars 2 to 3 years later (the hexagon grille is not too obvious, but can be seen closely to see its details). And some of you may argue that its boxy or nothing had been changed on the new Q7 over the old one. First, does it looks like a box? I would certainly say its not even close to look like a box. I would said the Nissan's GT-R (both the R34 and R35) IS actually looks closer like a box than the Q7 2nd generation in general. As for those who arguing that the new Q7 looks nearly identical to the old one, I would said that the one who looks almost similar is between the BMW X5 2nd generation (E70) and the 3rd generation (F15). Personally, I don't feel and look any of the changes between the E70 and the F15.

Shed weight not shedded also its not "steal us of".
and hey one last thing, If I was Dr.Martin Winterkorn (Volkswagen Group, CEO) and you do not change your design language? I WOULD SELL YOU AUDI TO TATA
I laughed when he mentioned carrying around the weight of a grand piano. Sure that I just the average mother in law in a Western country ,lol or a couple of modern day (McDonalds fed) teenagers ha ha
I would have liked a better and clearer view of the interior not just fast cuts and massive closeups of the stiching. You barely showed the thing and went back to showing this guy's beard. I could care less. Btw, could this car be any more boxy on the outside?
Shame, you simply just won't get there. It is not point trying to help you accessing at least 1 percent of your brains. You are an example of a pigeon brain.
If there is a SQ5, why can't there be a sporty Q7? That is why I have never ever liked the Q7, it just looks like a big barge as compared to its competitors.
So lets have a look at this. Its a big, heavy, high centre of gravity vehicle, like a truck is. Then everything is added to that. Yeah, like a fat girl with really great make-up, a really nice smile and a great personality and..... why keep talking. Sorry keep telling me about the audio, entertainment unit, the HUD, the blah blah bah. Yes yes its great.
Ugly design aside, what really bugs me is that audi is getting rid of analog gauges, i love the combination of analog and digital dashes but only digital is just awful.
10 Things to know... 1x It's Pretentious 2x It's crap in snow 3x Awful off-road performance 4x it get outdated very quickly (like all audi) 5x It will never return the claimed mpg. 6x It looks fat 7x You'll drive like a cretin 7bx (even if you're not, everybody will think you are) 8x You'll never get let out of a junction (even by another cretin) 9x You'll forget what indicators (blinkers) are for! 10x You'll wish you'd either bought a proper 4x4 SUV or a Proper road car! Ps. Did I mention it's pretentious?
The entire Q series spends an average of 10 days on a lot in the U.S. One of the quickest selling cars around. Sorry for putting relevant facts into a RU-vid comment section.
chris smith I don't care about the U.S clearly this car was made for that market since us Europeans think this thing is ghastly and will be good for the US customers..
