Couldn't figure out why this cover wouldn't come off so I stopped by my local Valvoline Instant Oil Change. They were no help and suggested a special tool was required to remove the cover. I decided to search RU-vid and found your video which provided the solution. The older covers lacked this bolt but this video saved me time and money and I appreciate you!
0w-20 oil, wow... that is some water like oil! Really not sure how this is conducive to a long engine life in warmer climates. I wouldn't even use 0w-20 in the UK let alone the states. Thanks for the upload though, wanted to just check the process before changing the oil on my 2019 740d. I'll be using liqui moly toptec 4200 - 5w-30. If I drove in europe in the summer I would swap to 5w-40.
No idea on the 2016 750i drive? My new car warranty will be out in 1.5 months. Time for me to learn changing the oil. It cost $200 (tax included) at my local dealer. It probably costs me half that if I do it myself. Although the manufacture recommendation is 10K miles or 1 yr, I like to change it every 5K. The N63 hot Vee engine isn't known for reliability so I'm trying to take good care of the car.
The drain plug should be in the same location. Not sure about the oil filter location given that the 750 is a V8 and the 740 is a straight 6, but it is worth looking in the same location. Be sure to check the oil capacity, should be higher for the 750. Oil reset should be the same. Go with full synthetic oil, I like Mobil1. Should cost around $75-90 with oil and filter depending on the oil capacity.
I think you used a wrong oil BMW Owner Manual says you need use Longlife-01 FE type of engine oil which the Mobile 0w-20 doesnt meet this requirement. I think its better you change oil with Castrol brand and correct types or choose the OEM BMW 0W-20
Hey, I have a 2017 740i. Thanks for the video on the oil change. I'm currently looking for the egr valve, by any chance do you know where it's located?
0w-20 is too low to a high power turbo engine. In Walmart you can find Mobil 1 5w-30 for European cars, on the bottle, it literally says it's for BMW and Mercedes cars.
Liang, I am sure that 5W30 will work fine in this vehicle. I used it in my 2008 750Li, but check out the decal on the underside of the hood illustrated at 10:59 of the video. It literally states 0w20. This does have less viscosity than 5W30, but I believe is more effective at lower temperatures and has a similar range for higher temperatures that 5W30 does. I am actually finding it harder to source 5W30 in stores like Walmart, it seems that more engines are going with a 0w20 or 0w30 now.
So you may need to hit the "Start" button a few times until you see the yellow check engine light and yellow tire pressure light on the lower left side of the dashboard. Once you see this, press and hold the "reset" button. This is the same button you use to reset the trip mileage. Hold the "reset" button down until you see the Engine Oil indicator at the bottom of the dashboard. Release the "reset" button, then press the "reset" button down until you see "Reset?" on the Engine Oil inidicator at the bottom of the dashboard. Release the "reset" button, then press the "reset" button again until the Engine Oil indicator is actually reset. It should change to around 11000 miles to change oil and provide a date. Hope this helps.
I have worked on cars for the past several years I do not recommend putting 0w20 what is recommend by BMW I would suggest using 0w30 or 5w40 oil for European cars models recommend once only since they come with turbo charged engines the bearing need more lubrication and OW20 is not putting out such a high quality long life performance for over all life of turbos and camshaft and crankshaft bearings and seals over all tested for high performance cars 0w30 is better
@@ZeroDownEnt Never use a grade much higher then recommended, this new engines are complicated. City of Long Beach was using 15w-40 in everything they owned and ended up destroying a bunch of GM 6.2L engines that requires 0w20. They learned the hard way.
