In this video I walk through the procedure to set the electronic parking brake into maintenance mode. you MUST do this before servicing the rear brakes! #ford #fusion #electronicparkingbrake
This is definitely a great video. There's no extra stuff. It's straight to the point with clear visual and audio instruction. I was able to easily follow it and get the job done quickly.
So I didn't know this. This is my 3rd brake job. The 1st two did it with piston spinner never in service mode, all good no issues. This time, the limited brake function and all the lights came up but brake function was 100% ok. Came watched this, got scared, figured at the best case it could be out of time w pressure so that may trigger it, decided to put it in service mode, which is TDC basically and then after taking it out of service mode, it's a hard reset and it fixed it for me. Try it, if it's not fixed after in and out of service mode then you may have a serious issue. Thanks for this tho.
Make sure you tell people not to do this with the caliper off of the rotor. I ruined a perfectly good caliper by doing this with it already off. It pushed the caliper all the way out and busted the springs and ball bearings. Luckily it was only one side and not both. I appreciate the instructions other than that.
Sorry that happened I was simply giving the procedure to put it in maintenance mode. It's always the first thing you should do before even taking the wheel off.
hi , my car is 15/16 awd ecoboost 2.0, it doesnt have a key, just a presence key, i got the error park break malfunction service now, what should i do ?
I just did my rear brakes on my energi titanium and didn’t do any of this. Didn’t even know this was a thing. I screwed the calipers in using that little square tool. Seems to be working fine, but I hope I didn’t screw anything up.
What would happen if the dude who changed out the breaks never even put it in maintenance mode? How would you fix all of the notifications that came up in regards to the breaks and what not?
I just changed both calipers and break pad and sign just came on for the brakes and it's blinking what should I do now I didn't put it in the maintenance mode please help Thanks have 2016 ford fusion 2.5L
Hi. Thank you for the video. Quick question. We have the brake piston tool (the little square like tool that's used with a 3/8" ratchet). Since we have that do we still need to put our Fusion in maintenance mode or are we okay to proceed as normal? Thank you.
@@danthebrakeman Sorry to ask another question. My husband just changed the brakes using the maintenance mode and a c-clamp. However, it is still scrubbing as bad or worse than before we changed the pads. Do you have any suggestions?
@@johnnasanders8200 it's hard to say for sure I would check and make sure it's not the front making the noise then make sure everything is seated properly it could just need driven especially if the rotors were not replaced
I have a few videos on my page of how to reset it manually. Look for the honda Civic videos on my channel the calipers are a bit different, but the process is exactly the same.
Um I can not get my piston to retract . It seems to move in then out but never in very far.. using manual tool didn’t know bout mode … it’s so strange like which direction do you turn the manual tool to get it in ?? I’m completely stuck im going to try to do the maintenance thing with the break pads already off .. Prey this works . I have no clue why it will not manually retract Im stuck without a car now eek
Idiot Ford why they replace the traditional manual hand brake compare to this crazy idea epb which is another investment to car owner. Manual hand brake long last and no problem even 200 yrs or more. Ford bring back the manual hand brake so that owner will not invest for this shit epb
@danthebrakeman 11 months later...if I damaged the actuator? Stupid fucking question, ɓut how do I fix that? 💀🤦🏾♂️ Had some body work done. And the guy told me he's familiar with it because he's worked at a dealership before. Told me it was the brake actuator relay. Dealership systems have been hacked & can't look at or schedule shit, and I'm trying to fix this. My parking brake acts as if it's on. Brake light is on dash. Makes the car work harder...like hum loud like a regular vs. a silent hybrid. 🤣
We are having the same problem today. We did not realize we had to put it in maintenance mode. Now the car won't even turn on. Totally Tame, how did you end up resolving your issue?
My 2016 has the push start button and Im getting ready to do my rear brakes, just wondering if is it the same concept with push button start as it is with the key?
@@danthebrakeman I had no problem putting it into brake service mode but when I went to take it out of service mode after replacing the rear brakes, the light indicator went from service mode to “Park break limited function, Service required”. I put it back into service mode and had to repeat the process a few times but it finally did exit service mode with no issues. Thank you for your help, great video!
@@chuckl3506 glad you got it! I see them all of the time with permanent brake lights on because someone didn't know the EPB had a to be put into special mode.
