Thank you so much for this. I took it to a store where they do setups and I swear it came back worse than I left it to them. I'll get to work on mine tomorrow!
i own an Epiphone Firebird, the Slash sig model, also had it setup and fret polished by a luthier, he wound my strings upside down, not a good thing to do, getting some fret buzz also, but tats because i gave him permission to set it up in the way he likes it, since i tried out some of his guitars, liked it, so figured why not. now im in the process of getting a truss rod cover made out of aluminum and trying to find the steinberger tuners. lovely guitar, really fun to play and a great sound from the Slash sig series pickups. great friggin' video my man @stringman , keep it up
5/64 = 0.078in = 2mm 3/64 = 0.046in = 1.20mm Rounded in metric to make it easy :) No idea why some people use imperial but if you wanna precision metric is the way to go.
Thank you for that, I will be repeating this procedure on my own Firebird. Only thing you missed was pick-up height.....what is the recommended settings for that?
Greetings, I just purchased basically the same exact guitar. Any tips on getting the G string to be playable? I can get it tuned open and it's even fine at the 12th but if you play any open chord (D, C G etc.) it sounds horrible. Also, any reason why you wrapped the strings around the tailpiece or is that just personal preference?
That was what the customer requested. One thing that you may want to check the space between the bottom of the string and the top of the rear of the bridge. If you can't stick a piece of paper between the top of the bridge and the bottom of the string you can raise the shop bar or do the wrap. That may help. Good luck!
@@stringmanguitars4329 Interesting. I bought some and used some Dunlop 65 fretboard conditioner that is lemon oil based. It seems to work okay. Did I mess up?
@@yobentley7274 no. That stuff is great. It has lemon oil extract. The extract the moisturizing properties and put into their concoction. Lemon oil is bad. It's acidic and will dry out the fretboard.
It is what the customer requested. If you lower the bridge, your action is too low. I did flip the stopbar and it has the clearance. but I also noticed that the strings became way more slinky when you drastically changed the break angle. Buddy is used to how Fender scale guitars feel. This FEELS like a Fender scale guitar. You should try it. Thanks for your input. That's why I do these videos. I learn things and others can as well.
