This is a brilliant idea. Can you please share which SAE connector you use? When you remove the cover it looks like the SAE connector there has nothing connected to it. My Dyna only has one connector and it‘s the one you are not using.
It's a SAE 2-Pin to USB adapter PN 69201149. Here is the link: www.harley-davidson.com/store/sae-2-pin-to-usb-adapter Not sure if it is still available through Harley. But any other brand should work.
Thanks David. I have a 2016 Dyna street bob and want to do something similar. I like the idea that the cable is out of sight and protected from the elements and engineheat. Would like to have seenmore of whats under the tank/instrumentation. Is there plenty of room? No problems with alarm?

What if the dude does 1500 mile trips and needs a GPS? Booking a hotel, finding campgrounds, locating gas stations, good food around the area and maybe needs his phone for calling a dealer if he runs into trouble. "Why not?" should be you question. Why risk having a dead phone when simple daily situations can happen?
