minsus = minuman susu (milk drink + coffee + ginger/choco/strawberry) minkal = minuman kalori (cereal) viteral = vitamin mineral drink love your videos mate. there's more around of 4 or 5 other ration types. - Konseven-in-a-can = main course without rice - konserven-in-a-pouch = main course without rice - T2SP = all rice and meat pack together in a can + crackers etc - T2PJ = dired rice, just add hot water. This is the most tastiest. - FDC ration = Susu Komando/Commando Milk. I saw you already got some keep it up ! 😀
As an Indonesian I never knew what my country’s military rations were like until now. Your review is very thoughtful. Thanks for educating me on my own country 😅 Subbed btw
MinSus = Minuman Susu = Milk Beverage MinKal = Minuman Kalori = Calory Beverage Aside from the Viteral, I suggest you dissolve the other drinks with warm or hot water. Dissolving them with cold or tepid water will make them lumpy and take forever to stir. Thanks for the video. Greetings from Indonesia.
I find it very interesting how North American rations have so many snack and dessert type items, whereas a lot of the international ones are much more focused on simple, good quality main dishes.
It's not the best idea to pull all of your eggs into one basket, so to speak. Under duress, you're supposed to eat what you can when you can. Having all of your calories in one dish of wet food that you can't just whip out little portions of throughout the day would cause many, if not most of the soldiers on front lines to just go hungry most of the time.
Fishballs are extremely popular throughout all of Asia as a form of comfort food. I understand that they may come off as strange and processed (they usually are) to someone who didn't grow up with them, but to an Indonesian soldier, they would make for a good morale boost.
I could just imagine you bringing these to school with you as a kid and busting out a stove in the lunch room cooking your meals. As well as having all the kids around explaining it to them. "Lets get this on a tray- Nice."
Bigalfonduty it's 11:13pm I'm laid in bed giggling to *lets get this out on a tray..... NICE* because i can hear some kid totally saying it with their packed lunch
I remember having some delicious Indonesian food in Amsterdam, fairly shocked that the rations don't look too far off from the actual sit-down dinner I had.
I can tell u first hand, i had indonesian MREs and all i can say is, i wish i could buy it in the truck loads. So delicious and cook whenever you want. My friend got an MRE from his uncle who served and my friend shared it with me. I had rice with beef rendang.
Writing from Australia. Indonesia is our neighbors and we get the privilege of having a lot of exposure to Indonesian cuisine. It's always a treat. Their food is heavenly.
For sure, you can find some really good Indonesian restaurants down here. The flavours are a lot more subtle than most Asian cuisines I've tried but well worth the effort to find a legit restaurant run by an Indo expat.
i'm from indonesia and this is the first time i seen this version, generally it pack in cannned and we call it "nasi kaleng" or "nasi bantal" for the retort version... nice man you have some great supplyer... and we really love rice, there is a saying in indonesia it say "we dont full until we eat some rice"
The person/team who designed that spork needs an award. Brilliant. Indonesians seem like they're treating their boys right. I might buy this if this was sold in stores. It mad my mouth water. I'm glad I found your channel. What's really spectacular about all of these soldier rations that you go through(and I think it would give you more content to cover) is the amount of thought involved by the teams of dieticians and food chemists. Not forgetting to mention the work of production that produce them. There is also some psychology involved. Great job so far. Good luck with your channel.
I live in a part of Australia where we have a lot of exposure to Indonesian food. It's always a treat. Their food is absolutely delicious and totally unique. And also their chocolate products have their own twist. Don't know what they do, but it's magic.
I've noticed Asian cuisine shows a general mastery of the use of spices to create flavor. In the West we often rely too heavily on salt and fat to get that savory effect in our food. Well done, Indonesia.
@drew todd try open this website www.goarmy.com/ nowadays many chinese and other country born in us after high school they go to military, 80% grammar is awful, just like me and here the basic to be enlisted You must be a U.S. citizen or a resident alien. Be between the ages of 17-34. Seventeen-year olds need parental consent. Have a high school diploma. Have no more than two dependents. Take and pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. Pass a Military Entrance Processing Station medical exam. respect everyone and you are be respected !!
i get off at 4am central time, and i do the same thing , its almost like asmr videos for me, i love the knowledge and im always generally curious about other nations and their stuff in general so its tthe best of both worlds
My Grandpa is Indonesian and he always cooked amazing food 😋 this was nice to see Kecap is actually a dark sweet soya sauce it's thick so I suppose it is put into the dish moderately but it's tasty over fried rice with Chinese sausage and veggies 😋 and dried onions!
Bandrek! That's what i was trying to think of. I had it in Java. It's coffee colored but doesn't have coffee. It's palm sugar, ginger, anise, cloves, cinnamon, and lemongrass. Sometimes is has milk or coconut water too. I'll bet that's what the first drink was. It's usually drunk hot in Indonesia and is considered a "cool weather" drink, or as cool as it ever gets in the lowlands. It's all relative in Indonesia. We had one night where it got down to 65 and everyone was running around in jackets and shivering.
Yeah, these rations shot right up near the top of my favorites. Nice you got the chocolate enertabs and I was a complete total fan of the Minkal. Reminded me of Capt. Crunch with Cruchberries. Cheers!
Ninten Doge Pointless. No strong proof to support your statement, unless Indonesian army engaged in war against your beloved 'neighboring country'. In this particular case, you'd better shut up.
its certainly not up to par to let say singapore. But its not that bad, its actually quite decent army. The Kostrad guys and elites definitely have modern gears, they are equipped to fight a modern war. They are after all, the core of the army, they are the ones we deploy, send overseas or currently in the fight against terorists. Kodam guys in the other hand are teritorial army they act much like reserves. mostly married and old men. The army didnt prioritize anything on them. They rarely carry arms and when they do its a cold war relic. They mainly work humanitarian or serve as extra hands for the police. some story said they pack their own meals from home instead of being issued rations during disaster relief op. so Its not a surprise that if the majority of them never even see these rations.
@@aulianataprawira1314 Taste like dog food when compared to proper Indonesian food. Padang, satay, etc. This become delicious only when someone haven't eaten for 2-3 days and this is the only food
Thought I'd go back and re-watch Steve's older videos. It's so entertaining watching these videos cause Steve gets so excited about these MRE's he gets the shakes, his voice is shaky, and when he is shown on camera he looks like a kid in a candy store. Thanks Steve for all the great content over the years. It's awesome seeing MRE's from other countries, or older US MRE'S that we'd never see or have any idea of how they taste without you. This has to be one of the top channels on RU-vid!! KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS STEVE!!!
Excellent review! Man, I love Indonesian food! In the Netherlands we have a multitude of excellent Indonesian food as Indonesia once was part of the Dutch colonial empire. My favorite has to be Nasi Goreng Rames. With Ayam (chicken) or Rengdang (very spicey beef).. and Sateh.. Nice!
Hi I'm from Indonesia, and I like this video about Reviewing our Indonesian Soldier MRE, bit hilarious but I love it, and for your information. I think that MiNSUS drinks are actually "Bandrek","Bajigur", and "Jamu" an traditional Indonesian Hot/Warm spices drinks and might think that MiNSUS are stand for "MiNUMAN SUSU" (?)
karpot oh thanks, my Thought was Coffee/Bandrek/Bajigur/Jamu/Enegry Drinks mix with Milk...hehe kinda everyday usual mix tho but better to serve it Hot. (except energy drinks)
Indonesian food is always good, we have it on a regular basis. They were an old colony of ours so we have a lot of their food in our shops and always at least three restaurants in the area.
Indonesian restaurants in the Netherlands just aren't that great. They're mostly catered to Europeans who generally can't handle spices, thus less spices and oil on the food in these restaurants. Some are catered to Indonesians though and that's where I usually go to.
@@DysonH i get mine from Indonesian neighbours and the toko, ethnic shops. The restaurants in my region are better due to the high concentration of East Indies inhabitants. The street i live in had mostly East Indies inhabitants it is now slowly getting mixed. But still a very ethnically diverse region.
Yum chicken kecap (sweet soy sauce) in nasi (fried rice). I lived 10 years in the Netherlands, your former colonial oppressors, so I can figure out the food names.
@Rykiel Toh Didn't know that. Was the colonial oppressor directed at me? I'm British so we are former colonial oppressors too, but of a lot more of the world than the Dutch.
i think that last drink was pop ice, so we indonesian have this kind of drinks that literally taste like a milky liquid birthday cake. so yeah, we're wierd
It's been almost 40 years since I've gotten high, but I could easily imagine a scenario for my "bucket-list" of toking up and having a variety of US and foreign MRE's to explore when the "munchies" would kick in!
Tbf this is what we Indonesian usually eat for a day, and even then this is still lacking to my Indonesian standard, we usually have 3 main dish with a slab of rice as the main dishes bedding
I can imagine this guy enjoys his rations if he ever go to war. Hmm incredible, this is savory and not to salty.. properly cooked and soft.. oh god.. oh wow
Hey Steve I don't wana be to nosey but can you tell us a little more about you and how you got into the military stuff and rations. Are you a Vet. And can we see around your room a little bit. That would be NICE, not bad. Thanks man. Your the best ration reviewer on RU-vid. Because of you I only take MREs camping with me now. I have all kinds. Thanks brother
Hyyy... Im from indonesia... I am very proud of you reviewing Indonesian fast food, very much military food in our country, Indonesia and very healthy and rich in spices.
God dang bruh kudos to the Indnesian military from a fellow homie from Iran ! You be doing great in this field and inspire us in the muslim world and all around the globe ! Very nice !
Indonesian soldiers always bring a small folder metal parafin stove, a flusk with metal cover that can be used to cook water, and a folded shovel that can be used to dig up the ground for the stove's place, as their gear.
There's no breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Indonesian dishes generally speaking. You dig in whatever the menu is. Exceptions include some street food like fried rice, terang bulan, and martabak which food vendors usually sell at night. For the 'minsus' drink, I think it's derived from 'minuman susu', literally means 'milk drink'
Enertabs seem to be very similar to a Philippine cookie/snack called polvoron. Made with dried condensed milk and a variety of flavorings. Gives you good energy, and a lot of calories.
This guy seems so friendly. I kind of wish maybe everyone would be like that. Then all the militaries around the world just just hang out and swap MREs and be friends. It'd be cool.
Iv been likeing all the Asian MREs with the rice. I'm from south Louisiana and we eat a lot of rice so it would be nice if the US MREs did some with the rice
As an Asian, I think that they have done a great job based on his observations. The sautéed beef looks and sounds like the iconic, beef that I know and even now, to achieve that cook on the fish balls is astonishing.
