I sorta know what ya mean, I'm not as huge a fan of the shallow water anchors as some mainly because of the fact that they impair fishing from the back deck somewhat. Having said that, they can have some advantages in certain situations such as fishing in tight coves where you can deploy them and they will hold you in place and not let the wind or current (boat wakes) move you from side to side where as the trolling motor spot lock feature, as good as it is, still will let the rear of the boat blow from side to side and sometimes even in a complete circle even though the bow is staying on the target. I guess it all depends on the kind of fishing you mainly do, like all gadgets sometimes you think, "what would I do without em" and other times you think "what was I thinking when I bought these things"!
