Good afternoon. I refuse to modify my STI power train wise because I want it to last but I did order a nameless cat-back exhaust and I cannot wait to get it and install it! I will take care of my 2017 STI with the proper maintenance and driving! Great channel, keep it up!
Congratulation on your marriage. Mine will be 30 years next Feb 7. got 10,000 on mine and have a couple of minor issues. One is the radio acting up in connecting and disconnecting to audio source and phone, and my trunk gets stuck even after applying all 3 methods of unlocking. the rest of the car is just a plain monster. Couldn't be happier and like you, I don't thrash the car. I get on it sometimes but I take care of it like a baby. Glad you are back. Viken
hey ! I also have the same issue with you on having the trunk get stuck upon trying to open it. I haven't found any fix on it so far besides pushing it down first before lifting it up. I took it to the dealership and even after lubricating it, the problem still persists.
awesome to hear Elsa is running flawlessly. I own a 2017 STI and I modded the car to cobb's stage 3+ FF package around 6k miles. It now has almost 18k and I have had zero issues but yes, I do agree that it is mostly in how one drives it, how one maintains it and how it was modded and tuned.
Great vid. Almost 19k miles on my 2016 sti. I've been tuned since about 5k miles. Stage 2 now with a custom tune. Regular maintenance and keeping track of your cars numbers/stats us key imo. Not one problem here. I even send logs to my tuner every once in a while to make sure everything is fine.
Great channel and congrats on the marriage! In Denver as well, 14k on my 16 STI Limited, also zero issues. Running T6 5w-40 but thinking about going to Subaru synthetic for the winter. Are you going to stick with Schaefers 5-40 through the really cold months?
Are you making a little power for adding exhaust, is it noticeable? or you just want a better sound? Im really debating, if i still want to keep mine, or trade it in for something i could slightly modify and not worry about ringland failure. All i want is 300hp to the wheels, but i cant really trust the stock block on this car.
my sticking trunk latch got fixed at the dealer. They replaced it and now it's fine. Other than that, @10,000 miles, I love this car. Reliable and just too much fun. Just a great car
you've had nothing? wtf its only been 15k. an ok reliable car shouldn't have probems for atleast 3-5 years or up to 60,000 miles. a great reliable car should go 8years + without problems and easy hit 100k. as long we're taking care of them ofcourse. 15k is still a baby.
I park my car in the garage so when I took it out I noticed oil on the floor so I checked it didn't look like engine oil so I jacked it up and noticed a leak by the steering wheel rod
Dont listen to the hate man your videos are very solid and i really look up to you for keeping the car up the way it deserves to be! Congrats on getting married too man!
David G Cool, not knocking anyone who mods their car. I will be doing the same to my 17 STI. That said, how can you prove your car is more reliable? I think the evidence speaks for itself: cars that are stock generally have less issues than modified ones. That doesn't mean stock cars are exempt from problems, like ring land failure, but again, overall, stock cars--for various reasons, such as driving habit--are "most reliable" (to quote myself).
ConsumerFanatics my gas mileage has improved from 17 mpg combined highway and city to 21.8 mpg and my oil consumption has improved drastically with the AOS
Idk man I have it and I've been disappointed..... It's a proper race car your meant to push it! Completely stock you could just feel like it could give you a lot more!! And top speed is 145 it really needs a 7th gear. I had stage 1 and off it blew up after a week. Coming from a Cayman GTS don't think I'll buy the STI car again. And subaru's service is shit! In the Porsche never had any problem and I had a custom tune a headers fitted on. Plus the service is impeccable. Sorry Subaru... Bought you to have fun as its really a kids car as I just started Uni but Porsche is untouchable rn. Selling back this weekend
Sorry to hear about your experience. With some cars (most cars) when you modify them, you should not have an issues. However with these Subarus, sadly it's a pay to play situation. Anything can go wrong, some people get away with it, some don't. People who never had this happen won't understand. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!
I feel like you don't even use the STi for what it is. This isn't an exotic. Relax. If you do the maintenance. The car shouldn't not be able to handle it.
Congrats on getting married man! Great video, I sure hope your car stock doesn't have any issues at 15,000 miles, but my car that's heavily modified needed a built motor? I expected it to happen and said that in plenty of my videos. Did I expect it to happen this early on? No, but it did happen. Evan Shanks had his fail at around 20k miles. It's all up in the air. The only reason I said I would consider to sell the car, was because I THEN realized how much it costs to maintain these cars. Just like how so many people who modify these cars tend to find out once it hits them. A friend of mine just sold his Hawkeye, I'm sure you watch his videos. He sold his Hawkeye because he didn't want to deal with the issues the car offers and wanted to move on. Can't judge someone for making a personal decision. Just remember, these cars are extremely sensitive, and you're right about that. There are so many cars out there at the same price that don't have any problems when people modify them, and beat them up. You can't imply that I "drove my car hard" and didn't take it to a reputable tuner. My tuner is great, and I didn't necessarily drive the car as light as you do, but I don't redline it everyday. I do occasionally have fun. When you modify these cars, they can't take it. Other cars can. Simple as that. Still amazing cars when they're working, and that's why so many people continue to buy them. They're a blast. Best of luck with your car, hope it continues to be as reliable as it currently is.
Mrlolibre Pretty sure Evan did mention that his dad knew the previous owner of the STi, which is why he bought it. He knew it was well taken care of. But, even if that was the case, does that mean Evan was going to only drive the car to Church on Sunday's and that it's not his daily driver? Probably not. Point is, when you modify these cars, you are at HUGE risk of getting Ringland Failure or other issues in general here and there. Does that mean EVERY STi owner will have that happen? Absolutely not, everyone does their best at maintaining their car and driving their car while occasionally having fun. The rest just happens, it's all up in the air. Some are lucky, some are not. When I bought my car, I was the same way. "It'll never happen to me, the people who it happens to just beat their cars up on a daily basis." I was wrong, which is why I try not to judge people anymore, you never know what will happen.
Mrlolibre A great example is this, if you buy a used Golf R, and don't have any issues with the engine blowing up, none of that. And the next owner doesn't have those issues either, what does that say? It shows how these cars are generally less reliable once modified, but with most cars, you have to pay to play! I 100% agree with that. Some cars you just don't have to worry as much.
Hey man. Love the vids. I own a white 16' STI with 6k on it and am curious about your warm up and cool down routine. I try my best to do 2 mins on each end, but at times I find it difficult if I am in a hurry. Wondering how bad it is if you don't do that every single time and if 2 mins is excessive in your opinion? Take care and thanks for considering to reply.
Don't know if it's issue but got 2016 wrx and every ounce and while if in going up hill slow it will lung like it's loosing power for sec then go away. I have 11k miles on it and bone stock except nameless axle back with muffler Delets. Could this have to do with compression cuz I no longer have mufflers ????? Have had it to dealer they can't find anything and ideas and it is the cvt
Bro I love Subaru like no other. But when it comes to the sti and especially '15 suspension updates. There is no excuse for not "beating" on the car. Cause how could you beat on a car that made exactly for that purpose. I'm sorry but there is nothing exiting or proving about your sti surviving 15k miles cause you treat it like a minivan. You have the wrong car in your hands, stingy is what I say
i have a question. I have a 2012 stock STI with only 28k mines. When I'm WOT after 5k rpms, my car starts to become hesitant. Dealership says its the wastegate preventing overboosting that all STIs do this. the problem is, this happens in both cold / hot weather 100% of the time. Dealership won't look too much further into the issue because it's an issue from the factory and there's nothing they can do. When i watch other stock STI videos for WOT pulls, i dont see the RPM hesitate like mine does. Any advice? I bought the car with 27k miles and it started doing it 800 miles in. I don't drive the piss out of it and i baby it.
Hi - I wish you a happy married life, congratulations. I am inclined to get a used 2016 STI sometime next year, I am wondering how rough is the suspension and noise levels for every day driving. Some reviews on the youtube make it sound like it isn't good for everyday driving. I understand its not meant to be a super quite car, but I want to determine if it is too much to handle everyday. I would appreciate your response. My current daily driver is a 2010 Forester.
It's quite comfortable. It's not a Mercedes-Benz, but it's not supposed to be. I don't anymore, but I did daily mine and found it perfectly fine. The noise levels things is crazy to me that people would say that. It's not noisy at all and the suspension is stiff, but not overly so. Look on my channel for my "Is The Subaru STI Good For Road Trips" -- I talk about some of these things on that video.
Just past 50k on my STI with it seeing track/autocross duty here and there. If you can drive like you have some common sense from time to time then these cars will last.
