IT'S A REAL MAN'S BIKE !...who like comfort rather than speed ,I've had 10 bikes ,,but I really love my BURGMAN

Yeah! Man, you don't spit into the wind, or pull on Superman's cape, and you sure don't badmouth the Burgman, and almost all big bikers know that, that is, perhaps this hot cat, ashamed to be seen. lol....

I've always ridden cruisers and now, being an old bugger, I have arthritis in my hands, clutching was a pain. My Burgman put the fun back into riding, I love my Burgie!

Same here, Scooter Pete. I'm 72, and never, ever a career or even hobbyist motorcycle rider. This, to me, is about the most fun you can have on two wheels. If I was 27, I might be riding a good BMW bike, but I'm not, and happy with my maxi-scoot.

Burgman 650 is a motorcycle with a step through frame. It's a parallel twin. The only difference is the motor doesn't sit in an angle around a frame with a gas tank on top. I never get embarrassed for riding mine, and when I go to bike rallies, runs, and shows, nobody that rides a bike ever gives me shit about it, and actually think it's pretty cool. It's about riding.

The Burgman 650 is an excellent bike. I have 31,000+ miles through 13 states and Toronto, Canada (from NYC) with absolutely no issues. Reliable, comfortable, great storage, fully automatic, very smooth on the interstates. I highly recommend it!

For those that giggle and deride the transmission system because it has an automatic capability - is your car any less of a car if it does not have a stick shift? I regularly tour (with my wife) and can carry enough luggage for a two week trip, my wife loves the comfort and smoothness of the BURGMAN and we tend to stop only when we need fuel. As for looking silly in leathers and helmet - that is another great feature of the BURGMAN if you do part company with the Bike at 80 mph you just float to the ground really gently so can if you wish drive naked.

I have 2 bikes; a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 and a Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive scooter. Both are great to ride. Regarding the Burgman; it is a 650 capable of highway cruising at the speed limit, 110km/h where I live, all day. It is also easily handled in city traffic. The CVT is responsive but as with all such transmissions there is no engine braking as you downshift - once you close the throttle the vehicle almost comes to a stand still so you need to judge how to coast to a stop at the lights. The transmission has a manual mode and a power mode for those who like more control. The screen provided good wind protection and is electrically adjustable while riding. The mirrors can be electrically folded in to avoid damage when parked or for lane splitting if that is legal in your area. The power band is smooth right across the band rather than a surge down low or delivered at high speed. The fuel tank holds 14litres (I think) and gives a range of about 200kms. I find the motor revs higher than my Kwaka and I think this means it is less fuel efficient using more fuel/100kms than the Voyager although to he fair the Voyager is a 6 speed and has cruise control whilst the scooter is a 5 speed - I reckon and throttle lock or after market cruise control might be the go for long trips just to rest the right hand it might also improve fuel economy by allowing for a constant speed. The brakes are responsive without a fear of grabbing. Mine is a 2009 model so I don't think it has linked braking and I am not sure about ABS. It will hold its own on the open road, the freeway or the backroads with the bigger bikes but like many cruisers has a long wheel base so it may not be quite as easy to throw around as a crotch rocket sports bike. If you get a chance forget all the bike v scooter nonsense and just take a ride - you'll enjoy it.

I have a 2011 Burgman 650 with 61,000 miles. Bought it new and have commuted on it daily, toured on it, etc. It is NOT a sport bike, it is intended to be an easy to ride commuter/tourer and it has plenty of enough power for it's intended purposes. It is an extremely versatile machine... I have been hard pressed to find anything else that checks as many boxes as my Burgman. The comfort, easy on/off, automatic, built in storage, 12V power charger, electric windshield, smooth and quiet ride, ample power (will exceed 100 mph), very good handling, wind and weather protection, fuel injection, liquid cooled, ABS, full instrumentation including trip odometers, average fuel economy, outside temp, clock, etc. and now the standard heated grips and front/rear heated seats. 6 years and 61,000 miles and I have not had a single problem with it and it still runs and looks as good as new...this thing will do 100,000+ miles reliably.

He finally showed some respect for a very respectable scooter. Many years ago I was riding an Iron Butt 1000 on 166E out of Santa Maria (north of LA) while following a a guy on a Bergman. We got stuck behind a semi in the curves traveling at 55mph. Double-yellows, but I was looking for the opportunity... Suddenly, there it was! But that damn Bergman pulled out in front of me locking my FJ1200 into his pace. Well, I quickly learned that Bergman's WILL do 90mph, rather quickly, and steady as a ROCK. Wow. Bergmans are cool. (note: I've been riding for 50 years and had many different bikes. Currently FJR1300).

People underestimate the power and performance of today's scooters. The Burgman is top of the line. The idiot in this video is treating it like it's a toy. It's a serious vehicle and fast as hell.
@Primoris007
@Primoris007 8 лет назад
Really? 54 HP and 45lbft of torque pushing 600+ lbs is a serious vehicle? It has less than half the horse power of the GSXR600 and weighs 200lbs + more. Sure its more powerful than most scooters but scooters in general are not powerful.
@ezekielmajor5511
@ezekielmajor5511 8 лет назад
You're speaking from a serious rider's perspective. However, yes, for an average rider, it's a serious vehicle and should be treated as such. Anything that can reach a speed of 80mph or more should be taken seriously.

I have a Triumph Trophy 1200, and it is getting far too painful to ride because I have osteoarthritis. I found out about these, and researched them for months before buying one. I wish I'd bought one 2 years ago. I can ride with no pain whatsoever. It accelerates so smoothly the first time I opened it up I was doing over 90 along a straight country road , and it felt like I was doing about 60. I have a givi box on the back, and the storage under the seat is almost like have 2 panniers as well. If you have problems with your legs, but still want to ride 2 wheels instead of a trike. Get one or the Honda silverwing. As for revving up at the lights; you can hold the brake on or pull the handbrake lever, but the engine is really smooth, and you soon get out of the 'habit' of revving the engine when you're at the lights.

He is addressing what a lot of "real bike' riders feel. If he can open the minds of a few macho guys so be it. My mechanic (female) has been racing and repairing motorcycles for over 40 years. She was the one who convinced me to take a look. She was blowing away sport bikes on the highway at highspeed while raving about the comfort. I will confess as I am older it has been researching the Burgy over an St1300 which is top heavy by comparison. The burgy can keep me riding into my 70's

It's called "The Scooter Smile" And scooters are no less dangerous than bikes, wear your damn leathers people!
@TiagoRuivo
@TiagoRuivo 7 лет назад
actually I disagree with you. To me they are more safe than motrocycles due to the fact that your legs for instance are inside de cockpit, and not exposed like a normal motrocycle, so in a side impact for example your legs are not the first thing to impact the obstacle. Secondly since the weight is mostly on the back, there is less weight transfer so during braking you cna make the most out of the the tires, unlike a normal bike where you have a higher weight transfer to the front wheel. This is more noticable during a turn braking. And third, a scooter normally doesnt stimulates you to do crazy things. It's more pleasant to just cruise and chill, at least to me and you tend not to behave so much in the limit, which decreases dramaticly the risk.
@RasputinReview
@RasputinReview 7 лет назад
Tiago Ruivo You might have a point with your first two points, but scooters are really fun to hoon around on.
@TiagoRuivo
@TiagoRuivo 7 лет назад
They are. But there is fun centered on the motrocycle (normal bikes) and there is fun centered on the surroudings and the journey (scooters) And most bikers dont urdestadn that diffference. A Scooter ais about enjoying what is around and the road. Not as much of having fun while riding crazy or fast.

Yeahbut....Pretty entertaining, if not good, review for someone (at least acting) thoroughly embarrassed and apparently comparing one of if not "the" best maxi-scoot to a...whatever, ?1250 motorcycle?? Reviewer, WTF are you doing, reviewing it if you think you're too hot a cat to be seen on it? All due respect, but I'm sure a Porsche Carrera driver might laugh his ass off at the idea of lowering himself to riding a motorcycle. LOL....We scooter riders are respected by about 95% of motorcycle riders, from my experience....Apparently you're not one of 'em, and obviously shouldn't have been giving those of us interesting in purchasing one, a demo ride. Thanks for nothing, man.

many of us have heath issues that prevent us from either riding a traditional bike or continuing to ride one. Including myself, after breaking my back a few years ago, I need the floor design, plus I'm developing arthritis at 45, from years of being a machinist. Something like this gives me the chance to ride, it is very much a motorcycle, so it has a floorboard, it lets us out in the wind
@Alex-ei6qr
@Alex-ei6qr 6 лет назад
ffs, that statement "Scooters are not made for motorcyclist" is as ridiculous, by all accounts, as this review I'm about to watch - I've had and still have anything from tw200, trials bikes, klr650, v-strom, sport bikes, MX, enduro etc, and a Burgman is just another motorbike for me that's super versatile - can tour fully loaded etc on mine and still enjoy smooth gravel roads by sitting with knees right up against the glove compartment and get weight over the front wheel, something cruisers and traditional touring bikes can't do for me and be as fun/versatile, my adv bikes are not as comfy on 2000km trips

This is the only video from Tac that I have viewed and have subscribed, so I suppose I am intrigued enough to watch others. However this was in no way a review, it it was an old college kid's verbal diarrhoea with much repetition and not much accurate reflection. Nor was it comprehensive failing to address some of the key and perhaps unique features. But I enjoyed his amusement and giggling so good entertainment. 👍 A few key points, the construction of the Burgman is pure motorcycle sans tank between your legs, the engine and transmission system is sophisticated and provides the rider with options to exploit the available performance efficiently, smoothly and effectively. It has large storage capacity (52 litre) easily doubled by the addition of a top box. This is better described as a hugely comfortable cruiser or tourer with more than adequate performance for those purposes.

These Bikes are fast and can do 120 mph top speed, yet has the balance of an auto and if you want to shift manual, it gives you that power option. In all its great on gas and you can go take a weekend getaway with it. No different than the Goldwings for those who Cant afford it, but when it rains, you will be high and dry while road bikes will be wet. Have fun.

I have 2007 Burgman 650 over 1 year now. Very comfortable bike, I did 450km in one day with no problem. Center of mass is low it corners well, the weakest point of this bike is suspension. It's definately not a bike for bumpy roads. Folding mirrors are great when driving in dense traffic. Storage under the seat is huge, 2 shopping bags easly fits there. I am using automatic gear change mainly because buttons for manual change are not so comfortable. I am about 185cm tall and front windscreen could be about 5cm higer to protect from the wind. There is also a handbrake wchich is great when you want to stop or park on the slope. Bike maintanance is a bit difficult because all mechanical parts are hiden under plastic cover. To remove some of them is quite a chalange. Overall, its a great, comfortable bike for everyday use. I wish I could try new model which has improved gearbox.

Had a 2003 650 Burgman before going back to a Harley Ultra Classic - The Burgman handles great, has lots of power, cruises at 100 mph stable and has good storage. For interurban commuting, its probably one of the best deals around. Only drawbacks: the main electrical loom in the fairing does not like dampness and had to have it cleaned twice by the dealer during my ownership. Also, allot of motorcycle repair places don't like working on them because their too sophisticated, so find a dealer you trust to work on them for all repairs including oil changes.

I don't understand why they call this or any powered machine a "scooter". Websters " a child's vehicle that is made of a narrow board with two small wheels attached underneath and an upright handle attached on top and that is moved by pushing with one foot while holding onto the handle". Now that is a scooter and children make them from a board and 2x4's using wagon or skate wheels. Of course that's in my childhood days.

I don't have a Burgie 650 but absolutely would have one if Suzuki could see their way clear to lower the seat height about two inches and add a factory infotainment system including sirius xm for anticipated long days of long distance touring which I would definitely be doing. I have one I bought in 2006. I love kicking other motorcycles because every time it shifts, Harleys loose a step because when they put their clutch in, they loose a step. Top speed - 120MPH. It's not "little", it's a 650 CC bike. Power mode - gives lower gear ratios. It's engine and transmission are computer controlled.

Good to hear Justin. And engine size isn't everything either I found. I just test drove a 499cc Tmax and can honestly say that my 300 Forza has a lot more pep. The only thing I don't like about the Burgman is it's too fat. Not sexy at all. Just a big, fat, old guy's bike. It's not sexy, it's not cool, and isn't going to turn any heads. Burgman now makes a 400 which is much more slimmed down and sexy. Or if you are lucky enough to be in the European market, the Honda Integra 750 scooter is extremely nice looking.

Technically it's a automatic motor cycle. I've been riding bikes for 3 decades and that's how I see it.

Was it nice to finally air out your vagoo? LOL. In all seriousness, my g/f was looking at one of those because she's not much of a knee dragger and wants something with an automatic because blonde moments.

you have the option of a five speed on these, most people use them for long trips and opt for the auto

Misleading , the transmission is CVT but in "manual " mode the up/down buttons step through preset stages of variation , giving the sensation of changing gears .

Tac rides a scooter so we don't have to. I wonder if that's the 650 from the Vstrom? The only thing I don't get is the folding mirrors? Why?
@tomiday66
@tomiday66 8 лет назад
You bring the mirrors in when you have a narrow gap when lane splitting since the mirrors are low like car mirrors. I love my Burger. "You will be laughing the whole time" Yes, we call that the Burgman smile.

Tom Day Ah! Lane splitting is illegal here in Socialist Canada.

No, it's not the V-Strom engine, it's a parallel twin.
@gustaf3

It's a Hayabusa engine cut in half (lenghtwise).
@davidryall1082
@davidryall1082 8 лет назад
No it's not. The Burgman 650 is sometimes referred to as 'Half-a-busa' but the engines are completely different. The Hayabusa is 1340cc's (divided by two = 670cc's) while the Burgman is 638cc's The Hayabusa has a bore and stroke of 81 x 63 mm. The Burgman is 75.5 x 71.3

Why do most reviewers these days do fake laughs like Motorcyclist staffer Zack Courts. That is so annoying. Anyway, besides that good to see people stepping out of their *manly bubble.* Scooters may be a "joke" in America/Canada but are normal, economical, & practical for the World.
@moultriemanicmechani
@moultriemanicmechani 7 лет назад
it's not a toy, he's making jokes about wearing full leathers, you are traveling at freeway speed, call it a motorcycle, because that's what is is, floorboard or not. treat it seriously like one. I wear full gear even going 45 on my little scooter, 30 mph is called the death speed, because at that point riders can receive the most serious injuries, including dying, when unprotected, the injuries at 70 are not much worse then 30, it's strange, but that's how it works, I see guys buzzing around on little scooters with nothing but shorts, no helmet, one distracted driver, you're in the hospital and they are giving you skin grafts. I ride at least 20 miles every weekday on my 50, and stupid drivers are everywhere, last week I hit a freaking bat during the day, right in the middle of my visor, be careful out there, looking at getting one of these, easier on my back injury

Why is this a mans bike? That's bs, I am female and have one and it's fab - that was a very sexist comment and it is a serious bike, not a toy, she's fast, smooth and great fun!

These group rides in a city called test rides. Just follow the guy in front of you and bring the bike back before you get it dirty. Pleezee. The places around here just hand me the keys and say see you in a few hours and have fun. A giggly man on a scoter who is embarrassed, why did I ever click on this video?

Its a nice machine. You dont have to keep laughing and saying you are not a scooter guy to hide that you might actually like this scooter. Don't worry your manhood will still be intact. Maybe next time when you get over being on a scooter you can spend more time telling us how the scooter really is.

it's really a motorcycle, it just has a floorboard, and you can get a 5 speed option, get one a few years old, they hold up really well from what I hear, and most people take excellent care of them , and call it a scooter but many people ride them all day at 80-100 mph
