This is a deceptive bike, with enough power to do what you need, in a tall but refined package with a light nimble feel. It has plenty of options to make it whatever you need, but don't expect modern features and electronics.

Exactly two years now with mine, and I'm still happy. I think about it when I'm not riding it- like now. :) Good review.

Your comments were extremely useful to me. I drove 200 miles to ride that same bike at that same demo event. Your video served as a great reiteration of similar observations I made along the same route, although I think you understood more of what was going on technically with the bike. I just thought it felt great to ride and it fit me (38 inseam) pretty well. I couldn't agree more with your comments about light/nimble/powerful nature of the DL 1000. I've been looking hard at the "Beak Strom" for over a year as a potential upgrade from my KLR. Keep up the good work. I've subscribed and learned a few things from your other video's...

It has more than enough power and torque to allow me to control my position in traffic (I.e. getting out of blind spots of other drivers and getting to exits and merging on the freeway.)

very nice description of bike, however, you are comparing it to street (jet) bike. This is adventure bike, and it does have everything what adventure bike needs. By the way, yes, you can do Willie without clutch, you just have to take it out of traction and do it in lower gear with really sudden wrist twist. I do have same bike, and doing it without issues (I am 285 lbs guy). Cool video, stay safe.

With full exhaust and a tune, bike picks up a good hunk of power everywhere, especially mid range. Good chunk of weight dropped as well, easily in the upper 400 pound range. That 1037cc Vtwin sounds rad with a good pipe.

250 lbs... yes you are a big unit. Best keep the front wheel on the ground like I do. I am only 220 but now a Granddad, so happy to keep the skin on my bones. Best ride is the one you come home from.....

I'm 5'3'' and I managed to put both feet on the ground or one foot fully planted, so it's not really as tall as it seems. The one I got on was a friend's, and he had the Adventure version with the packs and all, so I'm not sure if it was because of the added weight or it really is not hard to get on for us short folks. Either way, once you're on it it feels much lighter than what the sheet says it weights, and it's real easy to get at least a foot on the ground. I'm definitely considering getting one of these after I finish med school

I am 6,1 and I can plant both feet on the ground but I have two friends, they are inch lower and they can‘t plant both feets on the ground. So, somebody‘s got to be lying 🤥 because my friends girlfriend who is 5,5 cannot plant either feet down. And even touch the ground. And if she tries to - the bike is starting to fall to a critical point.

@@Bad_Design Well it also depends on complexion lol as I'm finishing med school I can tell you some people have longer torsos and others have longer legs and are still the same height. I am the long legs type so...

Noticed that these & the Yamaha's were California registered bikes. We have lots of emissions restrictions that work against top end performance. Not radical but just enough to be annoying at times on certain bikes.

I can verify the tyre pump blows the 3AMP fuse. Have since added a 15 amp socket to the engine bars. It is good to have a couple for phone and GPS charging. I've dropped my (PivotPegz) pegs lower and more forward while raising the rear of the bike 28.5mm and adding a skidplate and less road oriented tyres. A year and a half and 27,000 kms on it's behaving itself quite well off-road.

I put engine guards and highway pegs on mine. The pegs REALLY help on long trips.

Hey man what kind of highway pegs do you have on there I tried one pair from I believe it was Adventure Tech and they would not go on my givi crash bars right as that I believe they were designed for BMW and I was worried if I was doing some off-road and One landed on me it might be the end..... looking for a better set

Great vid and review! But I'm biased. Vtwin, Hydraulic clutch, slipper like clutch, abs, traction control new for suzuki lot of nice features for the money, if you cant shell out for a bmw. I'm happy you had a chance to take it for a spin.

Great review. I have the 650 and love it. I've been curious about the 1000 obviously, better for two up.

I sat on one today , I have shot knees and most bikes have my leg bent at painful positions , I found this very comfortable compared to my mt09 , Im 6ft

I'm very surprised to hear the vstrom 1000 torque is not enough to lift off the front unless clutching. my first bike, a dl650 seems like it can do it easily, it has that scary jerky tendency. it would be interesting to see you reviewing the vstrom 650 abs. thanks

Like I mention in my reviews...I'm a big guy. It makes a huge difference on a bike when you can shave off 100 lbs
@morpheus3357
@morpheus3357 8 лет назад
+hespinobc I owned 3 vstorm 1000's. They will wheelie easily from low rpms in low gear without dumping the clutch... from every traffic light if you want. Also, on bumpy winding mountain roads, you can ride it like you stole it and stick with the sport bikes.

I'm thinking of this bike in 2018 - I heard thru my dealer there may be a major overhaul by then. I'm currently (2015) riding a 2012 DL650 i bought new and at this time (3 1/2 years old) have 63,000 miles on it and it is running strong. By year end 2017 I expect to have 100,000 miles, so let's see what Suzuki can so with the 1000 by then.

Hi Peter, I'm looking at getting the DL650-XT next year, as opposed to the heavier 1000. I just want to know how is the fuel consumption in km/Litre & what's the mileage you getting on a full tank of fuel. Thank you much.

Stupid question I'm sure: Why is everyone lined up and riding in a pack ? I don't understand. Whenever I've taken a bike out for a test drive, there's only ever been me there and I've gone where I want to . . . maybe 10 miles or so. Anyway nice vid. Greetings from the UK. Alan.

It’s 3,01s 0-60 and you are saying it is not going to win drag races? It’s going quarter same time as R6 and you are really saying it‘s not going to? It is easily wheeling on the second gear without clutch.

Wow. Complaining about footpegs digging into your calves. You put your ball of your foot down on the ground outside of the peg. First time riding a bike?

How would you compare this to the Yamaha fj09 or the Kawasaki Versys? I am thinking about my second bike. (I have a drz now.)
@aussie1546
@aussie1546 8 лет назад
+Blasters Fan FJ09 is smaller and versys is more street ride. It is between those two
@glennrebillard3840
@glennrebillard3840 8 лет назад
+Blasters Fan I test drove the FJ09 and then the Vstrom 1000. The FJ09 was smaller, a bit quieter, and felt a bit lighter, but not as comfortable and roomy, especially if you had a passenger. The Vstrom is MUCH faster unless you ride over 8,000 rpm (I spend 10 minutes up there during an entire day of riding, so for me the Vstrom is much more fun). The suspension on the Vstrom is far superior and I found it to actually handle better. I ended up buying the Vstrom and don't regret it at all. Didn't ride the versys, but I didn't like the looks of it. A lot of people comment on how the Vstrom is ugly. I also thought so, until I actually saw one for real. It's actually really nice looking, and I've had more compliments on it in 3 weeks than I did on my Harley in 10 years. I got my Vstrom for the same price that I would have had to pay for the FJ09, and 2.5K less than the Versys. It was last year's model, and Suzuki's promotions brought the price way down.

This bike is so old my grandmother had one. come on Suzuki get with the times, not even a centre stand, Dash too busy mirrors from a truck, no drive modes, the list goes on. I can see you wouldnt buy one.
