No mention of Toyota's reliability? That should be a factor in deciding on the Tundra. Overall, I like your review and unbiased feedback. Thanks.

Yes, reliability is the main factor why people buy Toyota overall specially Tundra.

Nice review. Your right when you say that the other trucks have a smoother ride and are more fuel efficient but...and this is what people need to realize...Ford, dodge and chev/gmc have made a lot of changes to their vehicles in the last few years and because of this they have quality issues. Personally I would recommend the tundra over the others as the tundra most likely will keep you driving instead of being parked at the dealership waiting for warranty repairs. Can't knock the Big three for advancing their trucks into the age of technology but Toyota takes a conservative approach by making fewer/less frequent changes which ultimately makes their vehicles the least advanced but more reliable. This is what it comes down to...do you want to fund advancements for the big three, possibly have more reliability issues while enjoying your big rebates and 0 % interest financing or would you like to drive a reliable truck with a proven drivetrain, pay more at the pump and forfeit your 0 % financing with no rebates? Personally I'd rather have the truck that's less fuel efficient and has a stiff ride then the truck that's at the dealership for weeks on end while I drive a focus loaner.

+Matt Hill Thanks Matt. You're absolutely right, and honestly the Tundra is only the "lesser" truck in terms of these advancements and only if you care about having the latest and the greatest. If you're fine with being behind tech-wise, I can't imagine being disappointed with the Tundra ... except perhaps at the pump! But with gas prices dropping ...

Stiff ride? I test drove one. Very comfortable ride. Don't know what that reviewer was talking about.

I totally agree.....man I have a 2002 Sequoia, a 2014 Avalon and a 2016 Toyota Tundra......We are never waiting for repairs......Ever!.....I bought the Sequoia 18 years ago used.....1 water pump and batteries. Every part in that SUV including the spark plugs and wires are the same from when I bought it other than the water pump. Maybe I'm just lucky....I doubt it.

Today I just bought my third Tundra. A 2016 SR5. My last one was a 2010 SR5 and the one before that a 2007 Limited. I traded to 2010 in for the 2016 today at my local Toyota Dealer. My 2010 had 93,500 miles on it. The reason I keep coming back to a Tundra can be described in one word... RELIABILITY! I've never had anything break on these vehicles. I also don't remember ever having one of them in the shop for warranty work. Maybe I'm just lucky? Nah, I don't think so. So the ride is a little stiffer then a Ford. It's a TRUCK! If you want a carlike ride... buy a CAR.

+Mark Pirtle I still remember the days when trucks rode like trucks and cars drove like cars and "crossovers" were still called by their original name - station wagon. Still, it's impressive what's been achieved for in this category of late. I look forward to seeing some longer-term reliability scores.

Here is the gas mileage for the other big three with their V8. Ram: Awesome 8-cylinder 5.7-liter HEMI V8. It has 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque with fuel economy with the 6-speed is 14 mpg city/20 mpg hwy. Chevy monster 6.2L V8 logs in at 355 HP with 383lb torque average with claimed mpg 15/21 mpg with average 17 mpg. Ford awesome Coyote 5.0 V8 380hp and 387 lb torque with claimed fuel of 14/19 mpg but combined avg is 16mpg. So Toyota is within the ball park on mpg with 15/19 average 16 mpg. Care to guess which one will show up at the 10 year reunion? Intact?

I keep hearing all these reviews stating the mileage is bad. I have a 2013 double cab with the 5.7L and I get 18-19 on the highway and 15-16 around town. They don't talk about reliability. When I bought mine the 2014 Chevy just came out and there was 9 recalls on it. They just recalled about a million Chevy trucks this last week.They also don't tell you that the reg. cab and crew cab Chevy's are made in Mexico. After the Government gave GM the bail out money Chevy moved most of it's assembly plants to Mexico and they still owe about $5-6 billion in bail out money they never paid back. I own Chevy trucks for 37 years and believe me I'm not going back.
@MikeDPerkins
@MikeDPerkins 8 лет назад
+oldrudedog 18-19 and 15-16 just doesn't impress like it used to. People expect their full-size trucks to deliver all the power and utility of a pickup with the comfort and economy of a car now. But you can't argue with Toyota reliability.

I'm looking at the Tundra 2017 Platinum. The reason is my 2009 GMC just smoked two of the cylinders due to the AFM with only 80,000 miles. Called GM, to quote "we've never heard of an issue with the AFM". Really? Google 5.3 oil consumption issue. I'm now burning through 4 quarts every 3500 miles. I've owned Dodge, junk and now GM... Junk. I refuse to move to Ford so, if I'm paying a bit more for gas I have no issue shelling out the money for reliability.

The Tundra is super reliable, more than any Ford or Chevy/GMC ( had all of them). the thing with Yota is you make compromises. you compromise on fuel to tow. they could put a different gear in the dif to get better fuel eco but down goes the tow rating. the other compromise is cost v. value. not everyone wants a 60k truck with mostly standard features ( uh hum Ford) and the need to turbo an engine to get almost equal performance as a V8. Not everyone wants all the gadgetry at an inflated price point ( like trailer assist? learn to back a damn trailer!) . Some people, me included, are very happy with a solid truck that I know won't let me down in lieu of all the newest, greatest every 3-year refresh. Ford and Chevy are always 'innovating' which also means they NEVER really get a solid product free of issues before the next model is out. Toyota stays the course, provides solid value for a good price. hell the Platinum Tundra costs less than an XLT F150 with standard features in most cases. Ill sacrifice fuel for reliability and gadgetry for reliability every time

Spot on. I'm in the process of truck hunting and I just don't feel comfortable with the big 3. Chevy is literally being sued right now for the last 2 gens of silverado's, going so far as to admit, in open court no less, that the recent 10 sp transmission has a design flaw but argues the warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not design defects (cant make this up, check out carcomplaints.com). As an added bonus, that same transmission is in Ford's line of trucks as it was developed in a joint venture and Ford is also being sued. And aluminum might not rust but it does still oxidize and with fords horrible track record with paint or lack there of on all it's vehicles....well you can see my point. People think I'm nuts because I am serious about dropping 40 ish grand on a nice low miles Tundra, but I will pinch my pennies and put more money down, even if I have to wait a little longer, and have a damn near forever truck!
@jasonlewis995
@jasonlewis995 4 года назад
@@ninji522 on average you'll pay $375 more per year in fuel vs. the big 3....however, you get a superior truck that will last you a long, long time. Couple the cost of ownership (toyota is the lowest) and you've got a deal that makes sense.

Impressive and pleasurable video to watch dude. Please make 1080p60. As a brazilian citizen it is very sad my coutry fall behind every single country in the world along with Venezuela. We have only Hilux, Ranger and S10 midsize trucks. Even if we have a Tundra or a F250 on the garage, would be impossible to run the engine with the most expensive in the world 73 percent gas.

Tundra in my opinion has come a long way in a short bit of time. Yes at on point they were a bit small. Still frm 07 up to now, they have come far in my opinion. Personally I'm not too fond of vehicles that are completely cluttered up from the inside, honestly there so many buttons and crap on the dash, I can't stand that. As long as the air conditioning works, has a good radio, GPS is fine. But that's just me. Unlike the other companies that have been around for over 80 some years. Their quality has not been the same,cosmetically they look pretty but that's as far as it goes. Again ever since Tundra has made its way into the Big truck Market, I think they're doing a pretty good job. If anyone is looking for a real truck then stick with Toyota. Pluss if anyone starts complaining about gas then get yourself a car.

Absolutely my father-in-law's 2014 SR5 with basic cloth interior with 85000 miles they gave him $30,000 trade in for that truck he would have never gotten that much for a truck from The Big Three even if it were an upper trim level

gm gives you a slug of a 5.3, poor quality, vibration issues, blanked out radios, leaking radiators, condensors, rust, tons of recalls. they can't even get a trailer hitch right without rewelding it. 50k for chinese truck.

Does the hood scoop perform to enhance the air-intake ? or is it just for decoration ? Is the Tundra available in an off-road model similar to the Dodge PowerWagon ? For $ 18,000 more you can get the Nissan Titan XD which has a ton of bells and whistles, but no sunroof like the Tundra. I would like to see the Tundra and the Titan XD parked side by side. Where I live ( Houston ) it does not make sense to own a diesel unless you do a lot of towing at max load. So if I were towing 10,000 pounds every day, I would go with the Titan XD. But otherwise it is cheaper in the long run ( here in Houston ) to drive the Tundra. For my needs, which are lots smaller, I am anxiously awaiting the new 2017 Honda Ridgeline, as 95 % of my driving is is helacious Houston traffic, carrying a kid and groceries.
@MikeDPerkins
@MikeDPerkins 8 лет назад
+David Locklear Hey David, the hood scoop is unfortunately just cosmetic, cool as it looks. However there is an off-road trim - TRD Pro or you can add the TRD off-road package to the SR5, Limited or 1794 Edition trims.

I got some more time to save up for this monster. I'm done with Chrysler fiat. Time for a change. F150 is also a good option but don't want to risk unreliable "new" innovation they coming up with like new turbo, aluminum body, and the 10 speed. If gas is an issue, you can easily get it back from resale. Gas shouldn't even be a big issue on trucks. F150 is still a good contender but I don't care about going fast if it means less reliable powertrain and I don't like the idea that they underpowered the coyote to sell the ecobust.

Good video but I'll stick with my tundras. It's just nice to have a truck that works and isn't in the shop. After my last 2 tundras going strong till the day I sold them to get newer ones I'll keep coming back for more reliability, even if the gas mileage sucks. But Toyota if your listening please work on the mpgs for my next tundra.

What about Limited Slip Differential? How does it work in the Tundra?
@MikeDPerkins
@MikeDPerkins 8 лет назад
It's an auto-LSD that applies the brake to slipping wheels rather than cutting engine power. Bit less complicated and intrusive than a mechanical LSD.

few extra MPGs, a girly ride, and a 5 year old rust bucket, or a truck that will let you beat it to death for 2 decades and still look good, drive right and yank a semi if needed, you decide.
