Actually this is a very reliable and cheap van especcialy if you have bad roads(or have no of them). We still use these vans as ambulances in rural areas in Russia because they are REALLY offroad and dont need too much care. Also a lot of other services use them.
@@jakeelperro3876 A brand new UAZ now costs $ 9,600 in Russia, but you can buy a used UAZ from a military auction for around $ 1,000 and it will be in good condition. That's why these cars are so popular.
@@user-bp7ou4lm2o this car for only less than 10000 $us 😱 I'm from Bolivia and brand new cars cost more than 35000 $us (Japanese marks) and around 20000 $us the Chinese and Suzuki s cars 😢
Benjamin Larson You can import anything as long as you register it as an offroad vehicle (varies by state, but mine you need a 25mph limiter). So many people do this with Japanese kei cars as well (and just remove the limiter when no one is looking).
Very if your in a FSR country and can get them, I bounced all over the Gobi desert and Siberia in these vans great fuel economy easy to fix but they beat the crap out of you if your not driving it...I should say the ones I was using had many KMs on em and were much older then this model. Id love to have this one.
In which decade are you living? Hippies were a creation of the 60's. I can't imagine these selling like hotcakes anywhere, except perhaps, North Korea.
Morgan hasn't been making the same model for that long, this may be it, this could be the longest unchanged production car since they stopped making the VW Combis in Brazil, and the Bettles in Mexico.
In March 2011, models 39625, 3962, and 2206 received upgrades, consisting of ABS brakes, power steering, seat belts and the Euro-4 engine as standard equipment.
@@no1DdC previously this car was made on USSR standarts, and YES it didn't have any safety. Like, literrally one head-on crash - and driver is in the hospital or worse... But the key is that it was even slower than new version xD and not much of fatal crashes happened
Other than this vehicle being 4-wheel drive, it seems nearly identical to my father's 1961 Ford Econoline van. Same shape, engine placement identical, even the color is close. The Ford ran for over 300,000 miles before dad sold it to a man who drove it from the Midwest to California and back.
Thanks! That was really interesting. These vehicles are pretty much unknown here in the US, so being able to learn about them via your channel is a real treat.
Lets be real here. Russian cars are not indestructible or even of a particularly high quality. They "survive" Siberia because they are mechanically simplistic enough for just about anyone to fix anything in the field, and parts are always reasonably easily available. My Lada Niva instruction manual instructed me to mount the spare wheel in the side window frame before flipping the car over to fix the running gear. I laughed until my front differential fell off. To be fair, it's much easier to work on a front differential with the car on its side..
Hah, very true! The last few years I've been driving a Suburban, last of the all-mechanical kind. It has a nice balance between charming breakdowns and driving comfort, and it's fairly easy to work on (if only the parts weren't so heavy!). I'd be genuinely interested in a little UAZ van though, too bad they're virtually impossible to import into my country.
Oh, I'm quite European. Norway to be precise. Shared border with Russia and everything. Have an old Ural sidecar bike as well, though I have to replace the russian electronic ignition (terrible) with a mechanical distributor to make it run for more than 15 minutes at a time. My Suburban is really just a pet project, and a great tool for the work I do at 1000 meters over sea level on the mountain plateaus during the winter. Just have to keep the electric heaters on at night or the diesel freezes..
Hah! I attended a festival in Sweden a couple of years ago. It was raining heavily most of the time, and the grass parking lot turned into mud. Guy comes running, he's gotten his rental sedan bogged down and is worried about damages. Explains he's from Australia and got his hopes up when he spotted my truck with a big snorkel - apparently that's what you look for when you get yourself in a pinch down under. Had him back on firm(er) ground in a few minutes without a scratch. Nice guy. Take care!
@Alex Purnell approximately from 1980 to 1990, I don't remember exactly. Our UAZ has slightly modified engine with carburettor from one of VAZ cars, it has bigger wheels, bigger bumpers and is equipped for forest life - cooking stove, foldable bed, rear windows are fully dark, and it has optional heat insulation for winter trips.
Thank you for sharing this video! I've been curious about these neat Russian vans I've seen in the dash cam videos! Pretty neat little 4x4 van! I love the fact they still look like a 1960s van!
>2016 McLaren super car review by Saabkyle04 Me: "Meh." >A video about some old, rusty Soviet era workhorse by MegaRetr Me: "Omfg I really need to see this!" Guess there's something wrong with me.
I love these vans. When I first moved to Moscow I used to see these cleaning out the sewerage pipes, quite often. I also think they sell these in vdnkh:)
Wow seems like a very good work van and those rear seats look very functional with one side looking at the other side seats just to chat or some small conference.
I remember driving in one of these 8 years ago. It was a very hot summer day in Siberia where the tarmac melted on the streets. It was a long road trip from a lake far away we where fishing at. We where like 6 guys in that old UAZ and the passengers were sleeping. And then all of the sudden one tire blew up and that scared the living shit out of everyone. After changing the tire in the middle of nowhere, we finally proceed the trip back being all awake.
It reminds me of my first vehicle. A 1964 Ford Econoline van. Had a 170 straight 6, and 3 on the tree. I could carry 3 dirt bikes and get 20mpg. Paid $550 and drove it 8 years, then sold it for $700. I still miss it!
You're damn right. The list of possible uses for this car is huge. Its simplicity and permeability just bribe you with giblets entirely. As the old engineering joke goes, what's missing won't break. You are buying a base for your imagination. This is for people with a craving for their own engineering. Corrosion treatment is not encouraging, but it is fixable. In Russia, a new one costs 11,300 US dollars in a complete set. In fact, in Russia they have been driving off-road for 50 years as an ambulance in remote villages or the police or the military or rescuers. Kalashnikov on wheels.
Russia's version of the VW Combivan, take a close look at wheel arches, the front doors and the floor setup. they all look like VW Combivan parts, change the body side profile and add the VW body line and you have a 4x4 Combi
It varies state by state, but you can import one as an "offroad vehicle". Some states require 25mph limiters or 30mph limiters or no limiters, but you can still do it.
First the has to be registered outside Russia...Like Finland, then you have to find a car that is at least 25 years old (1989-1990) if you want it to have plates on it. :)
Christian mrclep There are few for sale, ranging from 4.5 to 8 k euros. All of them from the 80s. Seller says they go 120km/h, but atleast i wouldn't do it lol.
Would love one of these, I doubt there's much in the way of computery stuff to go wrong. It's basic and that's it's appeal, if they did a right hand drive version I'm sure they would do well in the UK. People are fed up with vehicles that need a computer to fix them.
Hello MegaRetr, what do you mean when you say at 3'15 : "not reliable"? Is it a car that is often broken? or with problems? Do we need to be mechanics to possess one?
Does it have a 39 speaker Bose stereo system? I ended up here after watching some Cadillac CT6 videos, You tube never fails to surprise. I think I'd actually prefer one of these than the Caddy. ray
It won't work, because everything from Russia is Commie and so bad, only Amercan is good, i.e because of those WASP-religious loonies everything from Russia is bad and a sin
Well don't think all those safetystandards and electronics going to safe your ass, if a truck hits you or another vehicle you die the same way, in this car you are certain to die, maybe a better choice as living like a vegetable
That's the most nonsensical statement I've ever heard. An accident that would kill or "turn you into a vegetable" in this UAZ would be easily survivable without any injuries in a modern car, not to mention, you would likely be able to avoid such an accident, since modern vehicles have far better suspension and brakes than this vintage car and assistance systems on top.
My dream car! I had a Fiat 900T, much simpler and badly made than this one. Quite luxurious compared to my 900T which even didn't have a heating ventilator. But I loved it like hell, even with only 34 HP it was so practical. The UAZ is much better, very big and powerful. 4x4 is great too.
You should have tried the Fiat "Panda" 4x4.. the italian Bukhovka.. old people (farmers etc.) Still use It and It beated alot of moderno suv in off-road trails.. because like the UAZ the 4x4 Is a so lightweight Cars made them the goat of the Mountain.. with 0 confort tho 😅😁
I'm sure it's got a heater that can bake bread! I like it, looks about the size of an old VW combi. Looks built like a small military vehicle, what's the cost on a new one there? Both diffs looks like something from the 1920's, but the engine looks pretty modern, EFI and all. Windshield washer looks like it can be used to put out a fire! If I ever find myself living in Russia I would seriously consider one of these or a Lada Niva. Closest the US made to something like this were the Jeep FC models which are cute as hell but hard to find.
I want to get one shipped to the USA .. I'm in the process of trying to get one now .. There is an affiliate company of UAZ here in Nevada called BREMACH, but they don't sell these specifically .. I am trying to see if they can I can get one through them .. BEAUTIFUL VEHICLE!!
