James hit his head hard at the first supercross of the year when he and Dungey came together on the first lap of the main with James ending up on the ground and clearly dazed as he was helped off the track. He has been trying to work through the lingering issues of that concussion since as well as a few other injuries that came later in the SX season (he has not been himself on the track since he hit his head imo).
