Stationed at Lowry from 10/68 - 3/69. Spent two weeks in the best kept secret in the Air Force - a PATS Sq. were we performed "busy" work until a class formed. Then assigned to the 3733rd on what we referred to as the non-existent "Lowry 3". We were very much removed from the nucleus of the base. Trained to become a 462X0 Munitions Technician. Lots of classes in the Black Shack. I was a yellow rope for 16 weeks of the training course and became a red rope with two weeks left to graduation. From Lowry I went to Nellis for five level training and then spent four wonderful years at Hahn AB in what was then West Germany. I worked on F-4 Phantoms at both of my duty assignments. Good times - good memories. Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane.

Thanks for posting this video! I was stationed at Lowey AFB in Spring- Fall 1985. At the 3462nd Weapons Squadron, Academics and Shack were just a step away we were young, and we were Airman. Stuff you never forget. I can remember the smell of grass being cut, the Airmans Club across the street, the midnight chow at the 52nd, and the nurses at Fitzsimmons! Wow! Nobody really wanted to leave Lowery. Some people are still friends today...

I grew up at Lowry as a dependent from 1960-1965 having moved there from Robbins AFB in Warren Robins, GA. We lived in base housing at 211 Orange Court and another address on Severn Pl. I had a paper route that consisted of the enlisted quarters, BOQ's and the Officers Quarters inside Lowry itself. Around 1966-67 we sacked groceries at the commissary to earn extra money. My dad was a 1st Sgt. of the 3424 School Squadron and I think most of his airman were attending some kind of photographic school. I still have many friends that I grew up with that I attended the Teen Club with back in the 60's. Most of my friends are still in Denver and I'm in touch with them after all of these years. This video really brought back some great memories and thanks for putting together this video presentation. John Young

Need help recreating my father's AAF WW II records that were destroyed in the St. Louis fire. My father completed Aircraft Armorer training at Lowry Field in August 1942. Is there a historical resource via the foundation? Joe Stiles

ColoradoGeorge: Thank you so much for this video. My first visit was in 1962 for a year learning basic electronics followed on by Bomb Navigation Technician for the B47E. I PCSed to Plattsburgh NY. I came back for one year of PMEL training in 1967 and PCSed to Kadina, Okinawa. My last visit was for three months of advanced PMEL training in 1982 while in rout to RAF Upper Hayford, England. This video brought back a lot of fond memories for me. Thanks.

PMEL school there in 87. A lot of fun and challenging work. I still remember briefings telling us all to stay away from Colfax!

Well done George. Nice trip back in time. Seeing the Shemya photo and the parkas, reminded me and thinking back, I wore mine year round. On second thought, I lived in the big building and the club was just across the street and I may have just made a dash over and a crawl back without the parka.

+Don Gentry I lived in the main bldg. (600?), a club, BX, chow hall, etc. was all collocated in the same building...didn't even have to go outside...unless we had to go to work! :-) I think I wore my "parka" most of the time as well outdoors. Although...it was nothing like the Parkas issued to us at Minot AFB! :-) Thanks for checking out the video!

Colorado: I was in bld 600 for the first half of my tour. The second half, I was given a two room suit with a private bath room in the new barracks that just opened up behind bld 600. I was so happy I was a MSGT lab chief. Most of my troops had to share a room in the new barracks, but all the rooms had adjoining bathrooms with the next room over. .

Colorado: When were you stationed at Minot. I was also the PMEL lab chief for the 5th Fighter Interception Squadron attached to Minot from 84 - 87. I went to Shemya from there.

Yep, I was there somewhere around August '59 until sometime in '60 for training on F-105 Fire Control Systems. Then off to Seymour Johnson AFB until '63, with a few TDYs thrown in along the way.

Nice job. One nitpick. The open house image at 1:35 was not taken in 1940. The C-47 on the ramp bears the post-WWII USAF insignia, which did not appear until 1947.

Munitions & Weapons school in early 1968. The ol' BUFF that we trained on is now on static display.
