Despite their best (worst?) efforts, the anti-Free Speech activists just make Prof. Peterson's speech more powerful, and taking away his platform only means his voice is heard across the whole planet. RU-vid is the world's university, and Professor Peterson has tenure.

The irony of Dr Peterson's talk on free speech being banned, and then going on to receive a much bigger platform online - this adds to the feeling that there is something unstoppable in the wind right now.

Just 10 minutes or so into Peterson's very interesting speech and I can't help wondering if any of the college administration responsible for banning him have watched. And, if they have, how could they be anything but embarrassed at their decision not to let him speak on campus. Nothing short of horrifying what anti free speech, anti intellectual activity is taking place on campuses all around the U.S., Canada and Europe. Thank God for bright lights like Peterson trying to keep alive free speech, the most precious value of western civilization.

@George Cowan You are wrong. Marxism is a historically interesting model of how to organize your thoughts. It turned out that it was wrong and even harmful on many accounts. You don't need to bully the Marxists by saying something wrong like they aren't thinkers - just reason with them like Petersen.
@waperboy
@waperboy 6 лет назад
@Peter Max Friis Jensen You equate the "Marxists" in question with the rationale behind the model, which I think is a mistake. These ones aren't thinkers, they look like emotional knee-jerk reactive bullies that cannot be reasoned with. In Dr. Peterson's words, "ideologically posessed" - they bear an uncanny resemblance to the zombies from "The Walking Dead".

What strikes me after watching this is use of the word "Controversial" in reports describing his upcoming speech. I heard nothing controversial in any of it. The entire speech was a proposal on how to achieve a better more peaceful world through the use of effective truthful communication. What struck me next was that learned adults in charge of higher education could be so afraid of a speech, and the potential contents, that they literally ran around yelling that the sky was falling and cancelled the effort to exchange information....the opportunity to learn?? SJW's routinely call for people who speak in terms they disagree with to be fired and I think thats ridiculous, but in this case its not a stretch of common sense to call for someone to look into the goals of an educator who actively blocks education.

@xomiakas
@xomiakas 7 лет назад
I feel like one half of Petersons crowd are people genuinely interested in psychology and his politics, and the other half are just drug addicts, assigning abstract meaning to every object or subject in life. This misuse of the word "god" has been noted by Sam Harris during his discussion with Peterson. It appears that it's rubbing off on many people touched by Peterson, like an annoying tick. I have a simplistic approach to things - don't use words the way they're not meant to be used and don't force me to use your invented language. So this goes out to the people who don't know the meaning of the word "god", and the SJW's who are trying to force gender pronouns onto us. Stop it. Learn the definition of words and use them appropriately.

Penguin Oniichan The beginning of Maps of Meaning takes you through Peterson's life from young adolescent through to a tenured professor at Toronto. It is an expensive book, it cost me £40 though Peterson has said in the past that is the cost the publishers put on it, and at this point he would prefer to give it away for free. I believe he has run events in the past where you can download the boom as a pdf for free, but I'm not sure. If you can afford the book I highly recommend you purchase it.

Well. Guess which community college won't be selling student loans to any member of my family? Really, people. If you need a "safe space" while you're in college, then you're not ready for college. Academe is ALL ABOUT challenging beliefs and having your beliefs challenged, so that all may grow in understanding and productive activity. It's not always pleasant, but it isn't ever deadly, either. What is deadly is coercion. What is deadly is imagining that you're safe if you just pick the right side, and then attack the "wrong" side. What is deadly is lack of courage, lack of imagination, lack of honesty, lack of self-restraint, lack of self-reflection, and lack of integrity. This is something that has been known and talked about for literally thousands of years. Go look.

This talk requires a notebook. I find the controversy that made me aware of JP absurd, but I am also grateful. His positions on pronouns don't touch the depth of his work. He has so many useful things to say. It's really interesting and I appreciate it so much. I'm lucky enough to have a solitary job where I can just listen and think while people spill out brilliant ideas through my podcasts as I work. Jordan Peterson is becoming a favorite in the highest regard. I agree, I disagree, my eyebrow raises, I halt and think. The world needs more ideas, and people willing to toss them back and forth without screaming.

This was a wonderful event. Thank you Dr. Peterson for your gracious presence. I don't know how to convey my gratitude, or the beauty this night bestowed upon me. The deep enriched symbolic meaning presented to me is truly wonderful to behold. I don't know why I noticed these "things", and I don't understand the meaning, but they still stand out vivid in my memory. My wife, and I drove an hour, through rich farm country to reach the chapel where the event was held. The route selected by my GPS lead us to Zion church road, and then some time later a Grand masonic lodge. I remember a single house on top a hill. A beautiful home with sprawling green pastures beneath it, and a majestic presence. I have driven past the aviation museum many times, never have I taken this route. The chapel itself sat not far from the Spruce goose, a wonderful work of aviation art, and a monument to mans ability to achieve the impossible. From my angle the sun lit a cross from the west behind Jordan as he spoke. The fire of the sun dimming as the night wore on, Drawing to a close with his speech. After many gathered to ask questions. Excitedly expressing gratuities of many kinds. I had a question to ask, the answer to which is already half formulated in my head, and I realized what I was searching for was not a question, or an answer to my question, but an affirmation before the "Father". This realization allowed me to observe the others around me, and see their deep intrinsic need for that connection. The hallow in their heart, desperate to be filed with a moment of calm among the chaos, to quite if only for a moment their fears, and self doubt. I stepped in front of a young man, who needed this. I wasn't able to ask my question regardless, but I can feel he needed to. Many gathered around Jordan after the event. Dare I say Dr. Peterson then took on the visage of Christ. His flock gathered before him, surrounding him. Reaching out, looking for a hand shake, a hello. An affirmation. You can think what ever you want, but our beliefs are what we do.

Sad that Prof. Peterson has to be so courageous just to give a very gentle, reasoned, lecture. Who would try to stop a lecture about taking responsibility for yourself and attempting to be the best person you can be?....not to mention Free Speech ! Up is down right now!... This video is perhaps the most moving of JBP videos I've seen, and I've watched way over a hundred so far. I'm not sure why. I felt as though I was in that room. ( I knew too when people were going to clap or laugh. ) It was a serious situation for the audience, particularly under the circumstances. One thing came to mind: If those who objected to Peterson giving this lecture had all come to this and really listened, what in the world could they truly criticize?!
@LasseHuhtala
@LasseHuhtala 7 лет назад
To everybody complaining about the coughing: Note that the good people who brought us this *free* content, thank you very much, miked the entire room, instead of tapping into the PA, that's why you hear the entire room instead of mainly Jordan's voice. If it's a lack of resources or lack of knowledge I don't know, but nonetheless i'm glad it's up on youtube for us to (semi-)enjoy. If you want to a·me·li·o·rate your experience, get an audio compressor(compressor/limiter) and compress (limit) the shit out of the signal. Makes a lot of content way better to listen to. (With the exception of already heavily compressed audio, including music.) Mobile users might have to look for a compressor app, if one exists. Neither the coughing nor the bad dynamics bothered me that much with the compressor cranked up. These free tips brought to you by your friendly neighborhood sound tech. ^^

This is great. Watching this obnoxious PC phenomena from outside northern america and outside of university, I could not understand it at all, although it really gave me something to worry about. Now I see that things are not as bleak as they appeared to be. Peterson creates his own platform from being de-platformed, and - so it seems - he gains response, sympathy and support. Well done, professor! Very well done!

You had to go back a ways to find this one. Absolutely stellar speech. I have followed JP for years, but not as far back as this speech. It was worth my time to see this. I was under the impression that JP’s current understanding of the world was freshly formed. This speech shows that for at least the last 6 years he has been reworking and refining what he knows. So he does what he says. I wonder if the historical figure of Christ would credit JP as his second coming. Because he is sorely needed now and seems to fit the bill.

Usually I feel uplifted by these talks because I can take more and more responsibility for my own failures, but whenever Dr. Jordan Peterson talks about women building up men I just feel down in the dumps. It's incredibly difficult to be the bigger man when you're the kind of person who harshly criticizes yourself for your own failures and the women in your life have all been the kinds who don't even try to help build you up at all, and in fact just tear you down constantly while shedding crocodile tears whenever you turn around and defend yourself. Last relationship I was in, I desperately tried to be the bigger man, but according to her, I was so good to her that I just made her feel terrible about herself by example, and she left me in order to improve her own self, and to find a man who's not quite as good to her. She had some issues with men and had strong masochistic urges. Fun, but it makes things far more difficult for her. Usually I'd just dismiss that as a simple "It's not you, it's me", but I legitimately believed her because I saw signs of it being true. I even knew exactly when she was going to break up with me a couple weeks ahead of time. I mean, it's my own fault for choosing to date someone with so many problems of her own, but I felt that us both knowing what suffering feels like in an intimate way would allow us to get closer together. She would constantly complain about her suffering and let it tear her down, though, while I try to take it and be the bigger man, no matter how hard it is. Naturally I was supportive of her, but didn't mind my own heart enough... I've started to learn to complain a bit more so the people around me know more about how I'm feeling in any given situation. But with my psychiatrist friend's support, I'm starting to fall into a feeling of universal hatred more and more. It's a step up from hating myself, but I really do wish I knew what it felt like to be happy. At least then I'd have something to compare my feelings against. But the last time I was happy had to be almost 20 years ago now, when I was just a dumb kid. Maybe this is just the end of my own innocence, eh?

It's hard to find where I'm at in terms of agreeableness, FirsToStrike. I've always had the tendency to step back and look at theory, especially as it pertains to self-analysis. Meaning I've always been able to look at my own words and actions in the context of any social interaction with someone I have enough data on and plan accordingly. In the past year though I've started to learn to weigh my options better as I gain more data about people in general. I've lived a somewhat sheltered life so it's been slow-coming, but at some point you just need to recognize an abusive relationship and decide when enough is enough. My reaction to that generally is to just leave the social interaction entirely instead of trying to sit there and make it work. In terms of whether I sit there and try to please others or please myself, that's also not always clear. But pleasing others really does please me as long as the other person isn't taking advantage of that. I'm happier with a slightly spoiled girlfriend than I am one who overworks and then criticizes me for not being on her level. Frankly, if left alone, I'll please others, but if told to do it, my usual response is "Go blow." Rather than fixing something I find personal enjoyment from, I think it would be easier and more rational to simply not expect anything in return from other people. It's a kind of respect toward the other person, recognizing their humanity rather than as a doll whose sole purpose is to reciprocate things given to them. And if they really like me they'll want to reciprocate regardless of whether I pressure them into it or not.
@ApplesGhost
@ApplesGhost 7 лет назад
I will say one more thing, though, on the topic of agreeableness. One of my exes suggested that we take a break for about a year, in which time we'd be free to date other people. I told her no, that we were through then and there, and stopped talking to her. Despite the fact that I really liked her and would've done nearly anything for her at that point. But cucking myself so she could get with some other guy and rub it in my face wasn't going to be one of those things.

Free speech (with loving intent) is what brings healing of self & in the best circumstances is passed on professionally to the client. Mr. Peterson is the perfect example of what the Internet was intended to be in a “perfect” Global University. It is truly a blessing to be drawn here. Alleviation Of Suffering has always been a primary directive when it came to concepts I share, yet not knowing that key piece of info (online) has been my shortcoming. I have to say that so far you have moved me greatly. I feel YaHuWaH ELoHiYM has a mighty call on your life. My husband and I are teaching Hebrew restoration to christians. We recently moved to the Big Island, Hawaii (the largest and southern-most island). I also have a master's degree in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy and a B.A. in Organizational Communication. I am 55. I worked for 30 years in television production (not in counseling). Today, my love is sharing with students of the scriptures a restoration of the Hebrew, including all that was lost... YaHuWaH's Name, His Son's real Name, YaHuWaH's calendar, YaHuWaH's language, as learned and researched through His Hebrew/Aramaic (and on occasion Greek words), YaHuWaH's ShaBaT, and His appointments with mankind. My husband and I came out of the churches we each independently were going to (prior to our marriage of three years) in 2009, at the end of the 2,730 year curse on the 10 northern tribes of Israel. I would like to share with you how some things appear to me from the Scriptures. You can find me on Facebook: Darla Makiyr Wright. In the meantime, you said toward the end of this video, "Your dead father is in the library. Go and ferret him out." I would like to recommend a video to you, Dr. Peterson. In fact, I will share a few. My goal is to give you some information that you may not have seen yet, and hopefully to help wake you up further. In your fields of expertise, you know far more than me, and I am smart enough to look to you to learn from what you are sharing. Yet, I believe I know different things than you. And, I want to offer to share them with you. I think they are mighty important for you to know. You won't get through them in a week.... Just copy and paste this message in a note somewhere and please consider what I'm trying to share with you. It's a few things. And, the theme is restored truth from the Father. I've really only picked a few things to share with you. But, I will start with three songs. I Will Worship You by Dr. Ron Kenoly: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P-zBNXpkxDQ.html Joel 2:32 Sing Along: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YmjO2ZpAz7s.html A Psalm of Marcus: (make sure to watch till the end. We hear that many people love the song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YmjO2ZpAz7s.html&t=7s This one is going to take some time... but it's worth it. Servant King defines a very big problem and begins to define the solution. He's partly right on the solution and he leaves us hanging a bit. But, some scriptures that are involved were not included in the solution. There is more. Should you decide to learn here, at the end, I suggest to please consider what is the definition of a Gentile, based upon what all you have learned. There are 9 parts to the Confusion series. Here is the first: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EtXbzO4xl_c.html . Then, there are 14 parts to the Unraveled Series. Another three questions: have you studied the everlasting covenant in the Tanakh (aka: 'old testament')? Have you studied the greater exodus in Jeremiah 16? Have you thought about this passage: Jeremiah 16:19-21? 19O יהוה (YaHuWaH), my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress the gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers have inherited only falsehood, futility, and there is no value in them.” 20Would a man make mighty ones for himself, which are not mighty ones? 21“Therefore see, I am causing them to know, this time I cause them to know My hand and My might. And they shall know that My Name is יהוה (YaHuWaH)!” biblehub.com/isr/jeremiah/16.htm If you would like to meet any of us, we have three students in Canada. One in Reykjavik. Many in the United States. One in New Zealand, and two in Australia. Also, one in Finland. I believe they would be happy to meet with you. Thank you for your service to mankind. YaHuWaH is mighty and brings you a closer revelation. HaLeLuW YaHuWaH.

On Dr. Peterson's notion that 'Life is suffering' I say, oh boy, you have no idea. I have bipolar and the depths of depression that I have experienced is mind blowing, and I mean that literally! I have slipped into a depressive psychosis a few times in my adult life, and I'm telling you, you have no idea what suffering really is. It's living Hell in the depths of your mind... However, people always say that they want 'Happiness.' They don't actually want happiness, they want to satiate suffering. I have experienced actual happiness, and it's pure extroverted mania! From which I have also dipped my toe beyond the rubicon into psychosis... So let me tell you, buckos... You have no idea how true it is that life is suffering, and I will go one further and say; you have no idea how much worse it can get... and I'm not talking about general depression, I'm talking about depression so low that you lose touch with reality! So, yeah... No shit life is suffering.

Dr Peterson just spoke of evil, and I have noticed upon reflection that the evil of man does not come from a state of depression as one might expect, it comes from mania. I have a brilliant team of psychiatrists, community psychiatric nurses and family etc. I'm extremely lucky in that sense, God help those who don't have these things... My former psychologist was a brilliant man, and the first and most important thing he taught me was what psychologists call "Radical Acceptance" the second most important was Mindfulness, highly useful for my GAD, but radical acceptance is major. Then there's my medication which has taken many years to get somewhere near ideal. But yeah, Dr Peterson knows what he's talking about, that much I do know, I definitely see that in him.

Don't we have a moral obligation to address this problem as soon as we have sorted ourselves out? What is a man's live worth as he does not take up this responsibility? This whole gender identity thing isn't it a distraction from real problems we face as humanity right now?
