Some pure exhaust Sound footage of the all-new 2016 / 2017 Audi S4 (B9) Avant powered by an entirely new 3.0 V6 Turbo delivering 354 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The exhaust sound might not fully come across on the video but especially in the low rpms it has a very deep voice and grunt which is somehow similar to what the famous VW Golf V R32 had...very, very nice! Once you hit higher rpms the sound is still very decent but never gets loud or annoying. Overall the car feels great with its agile handling (Quattro Sport differential) and the super-smooth shifting 8-speed transmission. +Zelatur You are probably right. Still, although I love the M3 exterior design, its sound is a disappointment for me. Although the S4 probably does not sound as good in real life, I would much rather take one of these instead of the M3 and keep the extra 17000€ or whatever the price difference is. And I would still get a very nice and deep V6 howl for the money.

It's supposed to appeal for everyone, so it's quite numb and muted. Just get the M-Performance exhaust for it and it'll sound amazing. Still, I believe that this S4 sounds worse than the stock M3.

Klingt schon ganz gut, finde ich. Der S4 ist ja mit Absicht nicht der lauteste Kollege, weil er immer noch ein Reise- / Familienauto bleibt. Dennoch hoffe ich, dass der RS 4, was Sound angeht, noch eine Schippe in Sachen "Kernigkeit" und Lautstärke drauflegt, am besten so, dass man auch noch schön die Turbos hört. Das wär's!

Does anyone else hear the subtle backfires or pops at downshift at 0:58 - 1:03 and 1:14 - 1:21? I could hear them here, but in the 0-250 km/h video, I could not hear them in the cabin. Maybe depends on the revs in which you downshift?

+Bours911 Have only driven the 335i so far, but I know that the BMW is even "calmer" once it comes to engine and transmission setup. Also the quality and noise is one level better in the Audi.

Bours911 335i/340i are cars meant for business people who sportiness and everyday usage in one car. The exhaust sound and suspension are not going to the extreme but clearly show understatement. The S4 plays in the same class, powerful business estates, that's why I would say "calm", but only in comparisons to all other cars we test here;)

I think audi should make the rs4 a saloon version, i mean why not the rs6 is at 600 hp and the rs7 is a 4 door coupe they have no car in the RS version that is a saloon.

AFG_ _Gamer NOCH gibt es den C43 nur als Coupé, mit dem neuen Modelljahr heißt der C450 auch C43... Ist der gleiche Motor also sind es direkte Konkurrenten weshalb ich bei meiner Aussage bleibe dass sich der S4 schlechter anhört.

wideangle852 ya gone are the days of vr6/r32 and b5 s4 exhaust sexiness unfortunately. I'm a audi guy too and it's just disappointing that in all their clever engineering they can't make the new cars sound good. What they just not realize is the exhaust note a car is a very common factor people take into consideration when choosing a cat nowadays. Shame.

...yeah but as an owner of an Audi s4 Avant B8.5 I picked the S4 over the RS4 as it's much cheaper to run...and having to cover long-distance European trips - hardly ever can you use the extra umph yo get from an RS4 or even RS6. It sounds alright but obviously not as good as the V8 it use to be.

at least?last 2 generations of rs4 model have v8 in it and it was pure shit...the new rs4 is coming back with the legendary 2.7 biturbo it will be much faster

My 435i (340hp) sounds just about a million times better than that. Audi have never really been good with exhausts, at least not for 6-cylinder turbocharged engines.

Audi are great with exhausts, but you're right this V6 turbo sounds like crap. The RS3 5-cylinder, RS6 V8, RS7 V8, R8 etc all sound great.

Ofc, the inline 6 sounds great! I have a 2013 330d now which has an okay sound but I would definetly go for a petrol powered 3 Series if I'm getting a 3 Series next time I'm buying a new car... Darth Swtch
