BMW's excel at comfort. A lighter F800GS is easier to handle off road than my older R1150GS Adventure, but any boxer engined BMW feels like a dream to ride on on or off road.

The only BMW I've ever ridden was a 2013 F800GS. It was such a fun bike, really great and confidence inspiring off road. Easy to get the back end out and ride it like a proper dirt bike. The only problem with it was the stock rims were really soft and easy to ding. It sounded fantastic with an aftermarket exhaust.

I have the 2014 version of this bike and the only criticism I have is that once it's all loaded with fuel and gear, it doesn't have much 'oomph' on the highway.

Another great video Mr. Smoak! Would love to have the 1200 GS alongside my Harley for sometimes exploring rough terrain.

+Euripides Masakis Thank you kind sir! I think a 1200 GS would be perfect sitting next to your Harley. For those rough country exploration moods we get into..! Lol

I really wish I had a BMW dealer closer than my current situation. Being 140 miles from the nearest dealer is what is holding me back.

Nice video. I really like your presentation, easy going and relaxed. Enjoyable. At the moment I'm trying to decide on the F800GS or the Tiger 800 XCx. I wish I had more money and a bigger garage . . .

After all the reliability we've seen from Rotax engines over the years, I'd feel comfortable knowing that engine was powering my bike if I had one of these. This bike was way cooler than I was expecting it to be! Love little surprises like that... Thanks!

Side plastic surrounding the radiator looks ugly too. Classic version looks nicer than Advanture. However, exhaust system of both is ugly. It would look way nicer if there was simmetrical dual exhaust under the seat. For example like KTM 950 Super Enduro.

Hey I'm KARLO, I'm looking to buy my first adventure bike I've only owned Suzuki gsxr's. what is the engine and chain maintenance like? Is it possible to get it with out spokes or are they not true spoke rims? What about valve adjustments what kind of intervals?

Hey Shaun is the engine a Rotax?As a Spyder owner, it sounds familiar.
@ShawnSmoak
@ShawnSmoak 7 лет назад
The engine is designed and engineered by BMW and manufactured by Rotax. The engine is shipped to the Berlin plant completely assembled, ready for installation... It's been around for a while now, and has been stone reliable. Thanks!

Compare to a F800gs(2010) - Shipped with battle wings, non adjustable front suspension, seat could only be ridden for 45 minutes, windshield caused deafness at highway speeds and as fuel level goes down, the bike becomes top heavy and even scary. The Triumph is far and ahead of the F800
@markjacobs6294
@markjacobs6294 7 лет назад
The new 1200 Tigers are nice also. I had a 2013 XC for 30,000 miles. Great 70/30 bike but the 800XC is a true 50/50 bike. The KTMs, Tigers and the rest of the ADV bikes are giving Big B a scare. The ADV market is the fastest growing segment and they no longer are the only game in town. Competition makes all makes better in the long run.

Yes, there are bad & good points to the BMW F800 GS/GSA. I have had two (2) F650 versions & one BMW R1150R. These are great bikes but: - the F650, F700, F800 versions are a little loud & vibrate more than other bikes at higher RPMs, they are too light & underpowered for the highway, they are expensive but hold their value better than the bikes. but they are good on the gas mileage (at least 55 for the biggest bike - the 800), BMW has a great 3 year warranty with roadside assistance free for 3 years. Reliability is good with their Rotex engines. The F800 GSA is the best of the breed with all the add ons. - the boxers like the 1200s are excellent! Their only fault is they are too technical/complicated and need good mechanics to kept them reliable. Unfortunately, a lot of BMW dealerships don't have many good mechanics and so BMW has a low score in reliability. I had big issues with mine after the BMW mechanic serviced my bike during its 6000 mile service. They screwed something up but would not own up even though it was obviously their doing. Anyway, that should be considered.

800GS or Africa Twin, which do you like best?
@tsav6952
@tsav6952 7 лет назад
OtisENGINEuity Actually the BMW GS Adventure starts at 14k. The Africa Twin manual is 13k and DCT is 14k. Yes, the BMW is around 200 cc's less, but they both have the same adventure touring purpose, both parallel twins with 21 inch tubeless front tires. Both very nimble and similar ergonomics. I have seen side by side comparisons on these two bikes on RU-vid and they stack up pretty close according to those comparisons.

T Sav africa twin...no question about that. That Honda quality will serve you for many years with out any trouble. BMW are good and looks cool but chanses for a garage visit is 98% higher than with the Honda. Africa twin looks awsom too
