The world didn't know about the Aussie Ford Falcon either ...56 years continuous building and it was also rear wheel drive V8 and supercharged as standard during the FG and FGX model runs as well as this amazing four litre inline six DOHC VCT powerplant called Barra ...There was also the 6 speed manual but also ran the beautiful ZF six speed sports shift auto ...Wish America had got it too...

This guy gets it.... "It succeeds in silence" is the best way I've heard it described... But the Commodore is no more. Holden is no more... I've got a 2016 Commodore SSV Series II Redline and I think it's the best bang for the buck out there. Bar none. Because of one thing it has that others don't And that is presence. Charm. Quirkiness.....and the mind of a serial killer. Eventually she'll get the Walkinshaw W407 kit, but for now, she gets me to work and golf with a smile.Every time. R.I.P Commodore 🇦🇺 R.I.P Holden 🇦🇺

The V8 LS motor is all GM for years and years but I love the GTO's, G8's and SS's from Holden Australia that came to the USA. It sucks GM closed the Holden Aussie plant! That plant was a staple for GM V8 power and more important to Australia than to GM. Australia has always loved powerful V8 engines. I love them also and hate to see this ending. I was really hoping more Holdens would make it to the USA but at least I still have my 2004 GTO that was made at the Holden factory

Another interesting fact to note is that the RWD full-size Zeta Platform developed in Australia back in 2006 for the VE Commodore was also used in the Chevy Camaro until the 6th gen was released in 2016. So underneath the Camaro Coupe body of that period you have Holden Commodore chassis, drivetrain & suspension underpinnings, just the same as this SS. I rented a 5th Gen Camaro when I was in the US back in '14 and it felt exactly like a VE/VF Commodore to drive.

Couple things, 9:55, there is cupholders. The whole center pulls down and has cup holders. Also, 12:30, not sure if you’re talking model years or purchasing years but model years are only 2014-2017. Nice video tho man, I have a 2017 slipstream blue SS with a manual. It’s amazing!

It's a lion...moreover it's a lion resting its paw on the "rolling stone of progress". This is how it was sculpted back in the '30s. Read about it here: www.caradvice.com.au/828149/the-origins-of-the-lion-logo/ For Australians seeing the Holden logo is fitting. That's what was meant to be there. Not the bowtie. It's like giving GM US the middle finger and calling the car for what it is. It IS a Holden. A Holden Commodore. The final Holden Commodore... also sold as your SS, is what we called the "VF" Commodore. Holden, GM's Aussie off-shoot, always used a double letter model designation code. The G8 was the model prior to your SS and it was designated "VE". These cars are probably up there with the finest rear wheel drive sedans (and, in Australia, wagons and pick-ups ...aka in Australia as "utes") in the world. The Zeta platform was fully designed in Australia, as were the cars. They represent the pinnacle of Holden's design ability. Then Mary Barra and the GM beancounters decided that they wanted out of right hand drive vehicles so they could concentrate on the Chinese market. So, in one fell swoop they killed a ninety year old company. Holden has been retired. There will be no more Holdens ever. I'm glad our US cousins have had a chance to sample what we could do. Enjoy them while they last. BTW,,, your Caprice PPV was based on the long wheelbase Holden which, for us Aussies, was released as a luxury car. For your police market it had all the luxury features removed. As for us Australians we will NEVER forgive GM for what they did to Holden.

Two sets of cup holders. Yes the fold down has them, but also in middle near top of seat bench reach down and push the button and two pop out for you. Nice video. Good enthusiasm. I hope you ended up getting one! I have had my 2014 for 8 years and still enjoy it very much. I like that it's a Chevy and not a Commodore. I would not change the badges, but those that do know that Holden Commodore is very well respected and an awesome car. I'm thankful that they let Chevy put the LS3 proven reliable powerhouse engine in their car. You see car shows and modernization of the old cars, this is the engine that changes a buyer from Okay that's nice, to "that's what I dreamed of" Drive sensibly, until you are on an open road with nobody around for miles, then see what it can do. You don't have to mod it, but those that do know this car is always king when you show up. Speaking of up. The value of this car has gone way up since I bought it. But I plan on keeping it.

If it wasn't for Australia's small population, hence smaller car market as far as choice, this Car and it's legacy ( Holden Commodore goes back to 1978 ) this muscly final member of that geneology might not have happened. This is not just a car from down under. ever since the 1970s GM HOLDEN and FORD AUSTRALIA have been in a tit for tat war of the large 4 door V8 saloon sedan. COMMODORE VS FALCON, 2 companies getting the market share of the V8 Sedan market, the race that stopped Australia - BATHURST 1000. these 2 cars went head to head. and in the late 80s both saw company divisions arrive, devoted to giving us like super car versions of the consumer models. HSV ( Holden Special Vehicles ) and FPV ( Ford Performance Vehicles ) both pushed development with each subsequent series. The Mad Max movies in late 70s gave the love for these cars a big injection. The location of Bathurst, 2 hours west of Sydney played a role as well. Western Sydney, being too far from the beaches, the youth of western Sydney in the 70s and 80s would just hang about and see a home grown muscle car culture rise up. With the added inclusion of Eastern Creek Raceway smack in the middle of western Sydney in 1990, the stage was set. So these 2 rivals have had a lot of developtment into their final iterations - the VE and VF Commodore and Falcon FG. So your getting something special.

The best large cars in the world were made in Australia, until Gm close down Holden manufacturing and Ford for ever , why would they do This?? They don't like being shown how it's done ,absolute knobs not happy

This, the GTO and G8 were made in Australia but they are still GM USA vehicles. Wish the UTE had made it to the USA. Kind of depends on which platform GM decides for different countries. Australia has a lot of open straight roads so IMO no brainer GM would give them a lot of V8 platform cars and the country has that passion for speed. IMO the USA does also. Many GM's were made in Mexico, Canada, etc... also over the years. I really just wish GM would have continued the Holden tradition and not closed the plant or quit making those cars. IMO it is a disgrace to the millions that want V8 powered, fast vehicles. Hopefully they bring vehicles like these Holdens back soon!!

GM didn’t “give us” the platform. It was entirely designed and build in Australia by Australians. Your current GM muscle cars use the Holden Zeta platform that was designed and made by Holden.

@@David-lr2vi It is the same in the USA, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, etc....where any GM cars are made. GM owns these companies and also owned Holden, which means GM designers actually designed and produced these platforms. Australian workers built them. It is the same everywhere. Doesn't really matter what country. GM bought Holden in 1931. It's not like GM just bought a Australian manufacturer and started producing cars to ship to the USA with the GTO in 2004. GM has been in control since 1931.

@@JB54379. I’m well aware of this. My point is that you said GM “gave us” the chassis/platform. They didn’t give us the platform, we made it. GM just provided some of the funding for it.
@JB54379
@JB54379 3 года назад
@@David-lr2vi I understand but it is the same with Chevy, Buick, Cadillac, Corvette, previous Pontiac, etc.... All owned by GM so in the end GM makes the calls and design approvals. Holden Australia just didn't decide to design a new factory chassis/platform on their own without upper GM management help or approval?? lol Do not get me wrong. I love Holden GM and the cars they made. Great cars and sucks they closed Holden. It was a major V8 power plant for GM and I want a SS. I still own my 2004 GTO/Holden that I bought new off the lot in 2004.
