This guy obviously Hates this car....so why let him review it? I've owned a Fiat 500 Lounge since 2015.....it's fast .... I drive 70-80 MPH and it keeps up with traffic wonderfully...and given the real world traffic and congestion on most roads ...it is more than capable ......it is quiet and comfortable...has a great entertainment system.....very reliable...and comes with a 4 year warranty and it is serviced at any Chrysler dealership....I love my Fiat 500....
So it's a girly car, one that a "straight" man probably wouldn't drive... I wasn't aware that sexual orientation had anything to do with reviewing cars. I think those comments say more about the reviewer than the car...
Weird how the US didn’t get the refresh with the led front and rear lights. Also some people here still think a small car equals unsafe and girly and I don’t think that is the case anymore, I’d totally rock a black 500 Abarth.
A girly car, im a web developer, straight AF, played D1 baseball, and i just bought a used 500e. I actually love the little italian design if this car. Its like having a little peice of italy right in my garage
No car is for girls. They’re for everyone. It’s annoying when people say that. Fiat didn’t say what gender this car was specified for, and neither should anyone else. I like the car, but I like CUVs.
Smooth Operator No they’re not, I’ve seen men drive them. Even mechanics, use a beetle for his daily driver with no hub caps on it. I love them except for the PT Cruiser. I can never get over the looks of that car.
I have a straight male friend who has one and loves it. I am gay guy and I wouldn’t drive it. Just too toy-like for my taste. Let’s not include remarks in car reviews based on stereotypes of gender and orientation. You know how many straight guys in Europe drive this car? Lots.
Get over it! It’s not that serious! It’s true. In the UNITED STATES, not many men drive this car! We like big cars, with big tires, and AWD for snow! His comment were for the US market. Not Europe. Get over it. Oh, and sofyan being gay or not doesn’t matter, that’s no ones business but his! His job to review the car, not entertain us with his personal life! Ridiculous.
I seen many straight men driving fiats. Depending on the color, its not a entirely feminine car. Even then, the color options are not totally Barbie like. A pink fiat is a rare one and blue is blue. Blue is stereotypically a boys color. If your looking for a inexpensive, practical car, a fiat is a good option. If your looking for speed or a racing car, it might not be for you unless you consider a abarth. If its such a crappy car, why are they so popular ? The lounge model is not a sport car. Why would anyone expect power from a car that is just for driving from A to B?
We have a 2017 500 and it really has been a great car. In Mexico City it’s an amazing car, easy to park and maneuver and it has surprisingly enough space on the inside. We’ve fitted a month’s worth of groceries in it and even a small ironing table! It’s a bit dated though however the engine in the city doesn’t need more power.
Love your channel and love your reviews in general. However, this review I think should be removed since it really is sexist and ignorant in the introduction and lost you some subscribers and credibility.
Ok, for me, being married for 25 years, I must be in another class of dudeness. I love my 2012 Pop model. Bright red, it's a fun car to drive. I bought mine used, so the cost was downright reasonable. On the highway, I'm getting around 42mpg. It ain't a Porsche, but for me, it's a blast to drive. It handles well in any weather conditions, and i live in Indianapolis. I'm hoping that exterior wise, they don't do much of a change. I love the look of this car, and people constantly give me compliments about its looks. The 500 has a Sport Mode button, which gives it a bit more zip. But it does cut down on your mileage. I don't use it much except when getting on the freeway. When the Sport button is engaged, the steering gets a lot tighter, and I don't care for the feel. But overall, it's just a really fun car to drive...
Remember this is a city car, meant for large metropolitan cities with tight parking, low speed limits, lots of traffic. I've driven one of these and they're perfect for city driving, they're quick-ish off the line, but of course the base engine will be slow, it isnt designed to be used cross country, go get a 500X instead. I think its a great looking car, though the electric is so ugly.
I would rather go fast in a slow car than slow in a fast car... this car is a blast to drive!.. i have 188,000 miles on my 2012 Pop and it still puts a smile on my face with every trip! I will never fail to blow other cars off the line (as long as they are not trying to beat me!).. And BTW, it is a much smoother drive than the Mini.
Love these little cars! Always have. The quirkiness is what attracts me. Glad to watch the updated 500 5MT video. Looking forward to an Abarth video of you ever get your hands on one. They’re a blast to drive.
As a gay man I literally stopped watching the review once you labeled it with a gender role. And actually, every fiat in my city is owned by a straight man, 2 of them are bright yellow, one of them is the sickest brown fiat I’ve ever even seen.
Girly car? I'm a hard core criminal lawyer, former martial arts instructor and 3 times Ecuador´s national IPSC shooting champion who will next week buy a fiat 500 cause is one of the most stylish cars on the market. I also drive a Jeep and a BMW. So I don't see nothing girly on this car.
I still drive my 2013 Fiat 500 Lounge every day. As a real driver of the car I would never want to switch, Love it!!! Yah, finally a car I've been happy with. The check engine light is probably low octane fuel or its been sitting a long time and fuel stales. They don't like that. These aren't girly, these are unbland. Not so sure about the reviewers voice.
Brian Lawrance Chrysler didn’t call anything because as a matter of fact it’s Fiat that owns Chrysler and not the other way around. I own one of these since 2007, it has 231.000km and besides oil change and new tires this car have always run perfectly without a single problem. None.
you sound like someone who knows nothing about cars, especially Fiats. Do you own one? I do and it’s been the best vehicle in reliability I’ve ever owned, by far
I drove this exact car from Milwaukee to Seattle with two German shepherds and a Bernese Mountain Dog. It was my sisters car. She got a job in Seattle and needed her car and dogs transported to Oregon. It was the LONGEST drive of my life.... slow, noisy and the ride was horrible even on smooth roads. With the A/C on even gentle inclines felt like Everest.
Straight guy here who drives a 2015 red 500 Lounge and loves it! It is my underpowered (104hp) race car! And to add a 6th gear in the MT, you'd have to re-do all the ratios and still not have a taller gear for 6th as the car doesn't have the hp to pull a taller gear at higher speeds. I drive 85-90 on the open road, no problem. Ok, I raced cars many years ago. The car is very reliable and a blast to drive.
I am 56 years of age, 6' 1", 190 pounds, a father, and I own two Fiat 500's. They are fun to drive, and plenty of room for one, enough room for two. Fun to drive, easy to park
What's the old saying? "Driving a little car with no power at 100% is more fun than driving a very powerful car at 20%." Perhaps that's what the indulgence is... For a comparison, my best friend's first car (circa 1998) was a 1987 Honda Civic DX sedan with a 5 speed manual. It had a 1.5L 4 cylinder and made 76HP. Last night I saw one tooling around town, albeit lowered with an exhaust kit (much to my chagrain). There is fun to be had in a little car with a stick shift. That 1987 Honda brand new did 0-60 in 12.1 seconds, but was much more fun in the Twisties at 45 mph. I imagine this Fiat (pronounced with a Yacht) will yield a similar nostalgic experience. Thanks for the light-hearted review Sofyan.
I always love your reviews and even when I don't agree, I have an IS and love it and its better than German cars in that it can outlast the warranty! My last car was a very cool Audi but when the repairs started coming in, ouch! Dont gay/girl shame the Fiat. I lived in Europe and this is a very common car driven by a lot of people. Plus I think we ahve enough of dividing America. The Fiat is cute and I'm sure its not for everybody. Its great in a city for parking in little spaces and garage. No isms!
Hey Soyfan, how do you think this compares to the Honda Fit 6 speed? I obviously know the fit is bigger and probably more reliable but what about highway ride, cornering, shifter/ clutch feel, steering feel, etc.? Im looking into the used market so new car price isnt really a factor
Unless you want something different and really love the looks of the Fiat, get the Fit. It's cheaper, more reliable, more practical, and more fun to drive. We found the Fit and Fiat to have similar ride qualities but the Fiat was louder inside and the shifter was less satisfying to use versus the Honda.
Do you want dudes coming up to your car or girls, I'm a straight man and I own a 500. I get 35mpg, fun little car on the back roads and ladies love it. The seating position reminds me of sitting in the original.
We have a 2013 still running strong, cant be beat in city traffic. You may be surprised at how much groceries we can put in the trunk with the seats up. We get between 30 to 33 miles to the gallon with the automatic. I am a straight man I love the car but when I was a kid we lived in Europe, my dad had one. The biggest down fall with the car is resale value, we are planning to keep it for as long as we can. We do have a full sedan for out of town trips. Too bad Fiat pulled out of the U.S. market.
Great review, Sofyan! The Fiat 500 sure is a very spunky and charismatic vehicle. When I reviewed the Fiat 500, I was impressed by the quirky and unique design that is boasted. I was also surprised by how spacious the cabin was (when you consider its exterior dimensions). I can't wait to see the updates that Fiat adds to the Fiat 500 for its next generation. Keep it up, Sofyan!
Back up camera in a Fiat 500? I’ve been driving one for 8 years and never needed a backup camera for this small car. The hatchback is wonderful for hauling. The car drives like a dream. I love it.
I drive a minivan and its one of the best investment that i had made in my life.No car or truck has to be only for few type of clients, enjoy the car or truck that you have and dont hate others car.Remember, the best is the one that you own, because its yours and you can customize to your taste.😊👍
Now wait a min... what kind straight men you are talking about european or american, because in USA this car makes no sense but in EU yes cause space here is kinda tight and this car and smart car you see a lot of so call straight men driving..
oscar trujillo that's true... but we don't have enough space for parking and circulation taxes are expensive here that's why this type of vehicles it's handy
xudyline it does make sense. Even in US cities that are heavily populated like Chicago and NYC benefit from these cars. But a lot of Americans drive full size SUVs when they’re alone it’s pretty stupid if you ask me
21,700 bucks? For this? Straight up theft. Was quoted $21,000 and change for a Hyundai Elantra Sport. The build quality, fit and finish, infotainment, safety and power (turbo charged 200hp and torque to match) is light-years head of this pile. Oh and that was with the premium package too! (Larger screen, upgraded audio system, sunroof, blindspot monitoring). Good review though. You didn't sugar coat the drawbacks of the car.
Santiago Luna who cares about resale value anymore. Hyundai has improved to much that it isn’t even relevant to call their resale value poor anymore like in the past. Plus, just any car you buy brand new will depreciate like a rock, no matter what brand. They are just like any other car brand. Better off just to buy used.
There is lots of Fiat 500s in Toronto here I think its a car you buy to drive to work if you live out a ways & work downtown then you have a full size car to haul the Fam around
The electric version is an awesome car! I believe it's only available in California and Oregon though. It's fast since all the torque is available as soon as you hit the pedal. And because it has all of its batteries on the floor of the car it results in the lower center of gravity which makes it fun to through it around in the corners. I got a great deal for $100/month lease in CA. Thanks Sofyan for doing this review!
Sofyan, great review like always! I am starting to understand why this car has a place in the market - it is actually quite a lot easier to understand since you are such an honest reviewer. Honestly your opinion is the one I trust the most in this industry.. I know this is perhaps the wrong video to ask this question.. but we really really love the Buick Regal tourX you just reviewed. As a college student, at what point in it’s depreciation in the following years do you recommend I purchase it. I just know it will drop down to the 15k range eventually, even for the fully loaded trim. I like to work on my cars so reliability issues aren’t a concern. Your opinion is very valuable! Thank you and keep up the great content.
I actually went to look at one of these when they first came out. I took one for a test drive and liked it. So why did I not buy it? When actually entering the car a group of college kids passed by me and basically looked, pointed and laughed at me. That was a dealbreaker for me. 😆
At least the FIAT is better than the Mitsubishi Mirage that has 78hp... I hope FIAT will redesign the 500 to give it modern technology and features and at least a 6-spd manual as well as a 8-spd automatic. The Abarth version needs to make more power to compete with the VW GTI. Just a thought.
One thing you forgot. The Mirage is twice as reliable as the 500. What's the point of spending 23K on a tiny car that will send you to the shop three times a month for repair and investigations when you can get the same car only for 9K just Japanese and will last the good 10 years without issues.
The reliability stereotype is completely false. A very good friend of mine has had a 5spd 500 Pop for 4 years, never had an issue. Fiat's reliability used to be a joke, and still is on some models, but the 500 is not an unreliable car at all.
Tech Defender / test drove a 6 speed Fit yesterday. First, driving position was uncomfortable. Gearing is too short. No low end torque. The was surprised how lifeless the shifter felt, and how the gearing was off. For Example, my Fiat 500 sport revs 500 rpms less in fifth then the the Fit does in sixth. I was looking at the Fit because my Fiat is seven years old and It's about to hit 200k miles. I was surprised how much sportier and tight my high mileage Fiat felt against the fit. However, the Fit has tons of space and cargo room. It's very refined but drives like a big car. The price is great too. If it wasn't for the horrible manual transmission and the horrible short gearing, the experience of driving it would be more fun. My 500 is much more enjoyable to drive, which is pretty strange with a platform dating back to 2007. I'm waiting for the next generation Fit which in no doubt be class leading. As for the Quality issues people say about Fiat, mine has been good. In fact at almost 200k miles, i replaced the brakes for the first time. The reason I will not buy another is because I want something small, but much more useful, and Fiat doesn't build anything in my radar.
I am also six foot and weigh in at 220 and love my 500 Pop Sport trim. The automatic shifts well and I get up to 40 mpg on the hwy. A girlie car? No straight men will drive it? Say that to my face punk. It’s a great car for city driving, and for the long hall. And park it anywhere!
Love my 500. Save some money and get a 500 pop 5 speed it's very well equipped has everything you need. Great economy, fun to drive, and boatloads of character.
Actually this one is a relatively fast car. 10.5 seconds to 60 is great. 100 horse power not so little concerning the weight of the car. Some full size suv or trucks may have worse power/weight ratio i think.
My brother drives a dark brown 500 with dark brown leather seats and interior and it doesnt look girly at all, it depends on the color combination i think
Man sofyan, I highkey was hoping you were gonna put up a video of that new Ford Edge you had on insta. Still love your vids. Wishing you would post at least two a week. Always looking fwd to your reviews
Hopefully, it's reliability has improved. Lots of clutch problems with the clutch linkage.... and a ton of body fit and finish problems. Door handles break, hatch latches break, and thin paint that easily chips. Perfect city car, especially for street parking.... because it's shorter in length than a Mini Cooper. Needs a backup camera
I know, that I'm way... late to this video. But I first saw the little Fiat 500s while I was in Naples, Italy, during shore leave (1983,) while I was in the Navy. I fell in love with them! And, even though you may think only "girly men" might be the only ones that would like them, I'll just say, I'm a straight guy who still thinks they're very cute. But I was in my twenties back then. Of course, not very practical. I'd still like to have one, if I could rationalize the cost of owning two cars. By the way; I really like your videos, even if I don't always agree.
Funny. You're disappointed that there is no back up camera in this car even though in the Fiat 500X you thought it was silly that it had one and its a bigger car. Anyway, your my go to video reviewer. Keep the good work up. Thanks!
Fiat announced the 2018 models and the naturally aspirated model has been discontinued and now the 1.4L turbo will be standard but the Abarth model will continue to be sold.
Ignoring the dumb comment on gender. This review (and most) miss the point of this car. It is a CITY CAR designed for narrow European roads and limited parking in virtually every town. This car is brilliant for a city like NY or SF, etc. It is the 2nd smallest car in US (behind Smart) but has a usable backseat, reasonable cargo space, tuned for low end power, comfortable, well appointed for class and stylish. Plus you can buy one (forget MSRP) for like 17-18k. This car isnt for flogging on backroads, it doesnt need lane assist, push to start, adaptive cruise. It doesnt need LED headlamps, it doesnt need high 0-60 times (generally going to be driven under 50mph), What it needs is to be able to carry you and your groceries or you and 3 of your friends relatively short distances and be able to park on street at both ends of the trip. The fact that it can do it comfortably, with fun and style and cheap is why its best in class (the class being limited to Chevy Spark, Smart 4x2, and maybe mini cooper).
My review of this car review is 2-10. Please reference; The door closing sound, constantly comparing it to the sport model and, faulting a car without a backup camera which quote "It's very small so you can see really well out of it, you've got great visibility out of it, big side mirrors...". Why do you need a backup cam then??
Imagine a car salesman, or a YT channel that is fed by car reviews; telling a man that this fiat car is only for women and not straight males... that would not just be the death of a sale; but also an offensive thinking from the customer's mind. I'll give you an example: there's no way a straight male would have a tone of voice like yours. I love the car btw; axxhole
I think your review missed the point. The Fiat is home in congested cities where nobody's setting 0-60 speed records. There it turns out that this "girlie" car is pretty nimble. It can squeeze around traffic and fits in that tight parking spot. The manual is plain fun to drive (European-designed cars seem to get that right), and at its entry level price I don't feel bad driving it like I stole it.
Rented one of these last year for a road trip b/c I thought it was funny. Took it on the highway and there's nothing funny about the crosswinds and semi-trucks that blow by you!
Firstly, everyone gets their opinion. You stated yours. My turn. Vinh Tran stated it best. Don't associate genders to cars. I was going to subscribe until you said that. There are many straight men that would love that car, including me. I am very particular to the microcar segment. Second, you come across as a spoiled millenial. Learn the heritage of the 500 and then review the new 500. The original 500 was even smaller. It was designed to get people around in the time of Europe's oil and gas crisis. Not big, just a beautiful little car that would get you from point A to B. It carries that tradition. I drive a Jeep Renegade; a Fiat built 4x4 on the 500X platform. Love it. I watched your video to get an idea of what to expect when I eventually get a 500. Why? Because I appreciate Fiat's heritage. Something you need to study up on. Also, and most important. Evaluate the hardware. Not people's sexual orientation in association with a car. Can't say that enough.
@@StellantisUSAOwnersGroup Good for you champ, keep telling everyone that, including yourself. While even Fiat's own CEO admitted quality issues needs to be addressed, their sales are abysmally low, and they might be forced to leave the US market. Again. It's one thing if you hate yourself and don't think you and your family deserve to have good cars. It's another thing entirely to think they are actually good cars. Which one are you?
My 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro has the same sized screen. After about 100 miles, the screen was just fine. You can read and see every thing from the driver's seat. So I have nothing to complain about. Most of the time, people just want some thing more instead of learning how to use what they have.
I dont see why people bash small cars, they have lower maintenace, drive faster and you are more fuel efficient so you can save a hella lot of gas money, there is nothing wrong with that!
