Did this job in roughly 4 hours time. Had to pause to gather my thoughts and frustration on removing that bottom bolt being my hands were too big and not having a extended ratchet. Wife came in handy using her small hands to reach down in places too small for me. Got er'done with the guide of this video so thanks for taking the time to do this video.
Im going to do this job in a few minutes and im using this video as my guide.....wish me luck 🤞 Finished in a little over 3 hours. Be sure to remove the bottom of the air box. I also found it extremely helpful to have someone hold up the hood so the prop isn't in the way the whole time. It made the job less frustrating. Mine was the Mitsubishi alternator (230 amp) versus the denso 230 amp. The connectors were different so I had to remove the old one before going to O'Reilly's to get the new one because of the different connectors. I went ahead and changed the serpentine belt while I was at it. Total for belt and alternator was $313. Hope this helps someone else in the same situation.
Dealer shop quoted $1600 (!!) for this job… Just bought new alternator on eBay for $190. I’m going back to Japanese cars after this short affair with ford.
I'm so glad I read the comments as I'm stuck at the last bottom bolt. I hope I can get to it clean to get the last bolt off and then get the replacement back on and be done.
Just had a dealer replace my 2017 Explorer alternator and was charged $2000! If you are reading this and read my comment on another video were I nsaid $1700 this is my updated charge from the dealer that includes tax and a shop charge?
Doing this job now what was used to remove the top alternator stud? I see the drill in there but not sure of what socket was needed to remove stuck on this part of the job for removal.
