You should actually take the total capacity of the cooling system deduct 30% and then add 70% straight antifreeze because you flushed the system with distilled water and there's straight water in the motor. Then just fill completely and you know you'll have the correct antifreeze to water ratio. Love that you flushed and filled with distilled water a couple times to get as much of the stock antifreeze out before adding the good stuff. Love amsoil products, I use it in all my vehicles.
That's great to hear!!! As you watch videos on the channel you'll get a lot of information and nice repetition and as you see it more and more it'll become second nature 😃 Always happy to talk with you and thank you for being a part of my RU-vid community 😊🎬👍
I'm addicted to this channel...I have a 2003 Lincoln town car signature ,2008 f150 4.6 engine 2wd, 2019 honda odyssey touring a 2012 kawasaki concours and I'm working on getting all of them on amsoil products
Hello my name is Léster and i am from Puerto Rico. I was very happy to find your chanel because i have a civic 2017 the basic one. But at the dealer they want to change the oil every three months and i read the manual and It is like you said one year since it is synthetic. Also Im interested in taking good care of the civic hoping it will last a long time. I am very happy with my honda civic 2017. Just that Iam afraid i may mess up so i will be watching your videos often. Thanks a lot for your lessons.
I am from Puerto Rico as well. We are in a very HOT humid climate and we drive hours, in traffic jams. Due to that fact, I do not do it by time or months. As soon my car gets 3000 miles I began checking the oil every couple weeks or so depending on my driving. I will change when it starts to get a little dark brown like a used penny. I also use full synthetic. But in reality in PR, we are not flat, the mountain driving hills, high temp outside, that is what I rely on. No millage no months.
But maybe you have worse oils in Puerto Rico, haha. Just kidding. I live in Slovenia (Europe), and the recommendation is 1 year, but I don't know how many kilometers, I think 15,000. Otherwise, the car tells me when it needs to be serviced soon, because the computer monitors the driving conditions. They pour me 0W-20 oil, from Shell.
When you do the coolant flush with just distilled or deionized water, doesn’t some of the water still get stuck in the engine block? How do you fully ensure you get out all the water from the engine block? I know you have to run your car with the heater on high and get it hot with the temperature gauge in the middle but when should you drain the water from the petcock? Immediately or wait till it cools down? Because… If water is still stuck in the engine block and you put in a 50/50 mix of water and coolant, then that means you’re 50/50 coolant water mix has less coolant in the system since you won’t be able to fill it with the amount the Honda Civic manual says because of the water that’s still stuck in the engine block.
Great questions here Edward! Depending on the vehicle and what type of driving you're going to be doing and environment there's a couple different ways you can go about it. Number one I personally recommend low toxicity biodegradable coolant that's my personal favorite it meets and exceeds all the major 18 wheeler specifications and it's a concentrate so you can mix it to any ratio you want. Have had great results with it with many vehicles on the channel. I also couple in the Dominator coolant boost which I highly recommend compatible with all other makes models and colors coolant types. If you have to use 50/50 one way you could do it is you could keep track of how much goes in and out considering the ratio of the total fill in that way you can suck a little bit out later after you fill it with the 50/50 and add straight concentrate in of that coolant type that would be one option. The third option would be doing several drain and fills with the 50/50 as the final which would be on the pricey side because you'd be basically wasting extra coolant that wouldn't stay in the block but if you kept draining and filling it eventually you'd have almost perfectly 50/50. I highly recommend it the first option that's what I use on my personal vehicles with Incredible performance games. Smoother idle less vibration quieter and I can feel a difference in warm up time. I haven't done a dino yet but I definitely know there is more wheel horsepower I would say on a really small car about 2 to 6 wheel horsepower by going to the Dominator going boost and the low toxicity biodegradable coolant compared to Old OEM coolant that's oxidized.
This will give you the best value on the products I highly recommend the low toxicity biodegradable coolant and the Dominator coolant boost and if you ever have any questions when you use my link that will attach me to you so in the future I can always answer your questions about improving the performance and lifespan of your vehicles by choosing the right fluids as your independent Amsoil dealer. ✅ Save up to 25% on every order as a preferred customer: www.amsoil.com/offers/pc/?zo=5331179 Promo: FREESHIP
@@Syntheticoilprotection I was put onto the brand years ago by a friend and have never looked back. You pay a little more but the quality speaks for itself.
When you said in this video the dominator coolant boost is good for 30k miles and the antifreeze is good for 150k miles, do you just add the other half of the booster after the 30k miles or do you need to do another whole drain and flush?
You just replenish the system after one year or 30,000 me whichever comes first by adding a little bit more of the Dominator coolant boost. The Heat breaks down the surfactant so that's why you have to add more
Yes the Amsoil low toxicity biodegradable coolant is compatible with all other coolants makes models and colors I also recommend low toxicity biodegradable coolant the white bottle and the Dominator coolant boost the orange bottle when you use my link here that'll give you the best value on the products and when you use my link I'll always be able to answer your questions in the future about improving the performance and lifespan of your vehicles. ✅ Save 25% On Your Next Fluid Order: www.amsoil.com/offers/pc/?zo=5331179
Hi there, i also got honda engine.. I would like to know if you did flush the old coolant multiple times until your last drain is clear as the distilled?
Yes I usually do two to four drain and fills just depending on the component and how much comes out some coolants you can get 90% out others you can only get about half so I go by the vehicle. I go until I get about 90% of the old stuff out. And you can see how the color will change as you drain and fill it and start the car and idle it turn heater core on and you'll heat it around high and you'll circulate all the fluids. Most cars take three drain and fills.
@@Syntheticoilprotection thank you for your response.. my everyday car is a Jazz GE, so far i am already using Amsoil products, for my engine i use sig.series 5w30 (tropical country Philippines, yet i also want to try the 5w20), amsoil oil filter, p.i. cleaner, dot 4 brake fluid.. and now about to try the coolant and the automatic transmission oil.. can u share me a guide on how will i shift from honda atf to amsoil atf properly?
Sure you would want to use the lookup guide and see what viscosities your ATF fluid is. Find Products For All Vehicles - www.amsoil.com/guides/?zo=5331179 Most of those cars are just a drain and fill which is pretty easy some of them have a transmission pan that you have to take off and change the filter but if it's like most Hondas all it is is a drain and fill very simple you'll see I have a playlist on transmission fluid changes and you'll see how simple the Honda's are
Great question yes my personal favorite is the white bottle it's called propylene glycol it is a concentrate the best part is you can mix it to the ratio you want for instance if you're doing high heat driving like here in Las Vegas I personally choose to run 33% concentrate 66% distilled water and I run the Dominator coolant boost it has a really good heat transfer warms up super fast and runs like it's cold out when it's 109° out my car runs like it's 50° out it's amazing the difference the other benefit is how it protects the water pumps and keeps from pitting the aluminum there are it is a special chemical in that chemical seems to lubricate the pump better and it seems to run a little bit quieter so that's my personal favorite and that's why I put that in all of my personal cars and recommend it on the channel also it has a longer life for instance like a Honda coolant for severe service would be somewhere in the neighborhood of a year and a half to 30,000 miles where the Amsoil coolant I've already used in personal cars for about 5 years in the coolant is still in great shape here in Las Vegas so it holds up really well in the heat and meets and exceeds all the toughest specifications for 18 wheelers and that's a tough thing to meet because of how hot they run and that's why I like the plan so much is for the extra protection. @Syntheticoilprotection okay. This is great info, thanks. I have a 2001 Mustang v6 automatic. Currently at almost 170k miles now. I'll be giving the propylene glycol a shot. I'm in Florida it gets pretty hot 🔥 here in the summer ☀️
Awesome definitely let me know how you like it!! It's always good to clean the radiator with a Degreaser you can get coil cleaner at the auto parts store or Home Depot that will clean the aluminum fins if you don't have that one you can also use a mixture of simple green will decrease and clean the dust out of the radiator will help the heat transfer better cooling better power. Yeah that was a blast😁😄 That Honda coolant really really give you a headache it's amazing how smelly that stuff is and strong extremely strong...... I forgot how strong the Honda coolant was it's been a long time since I did one☕
For those with the 1.5T the petcock is damn near impossible to reach.. I was able to barely brush it with my pointer and middle fingers but could not get a grip on it. I ended up having to drain the coolant thru the lower radiator house that is held on by a clamp. Maybe it is just me but the 1.5T seems significantly more difficult to work on due to lack of space.
Thanks for sharing that with the channel Ryan yeah sometimes on certain vehicles it's best to just pull off the hose I really appreciate you sharing that and if you haven't tried themselves products I highly recommend you try them You would be absolutely blown away at how much better your vehicle would run and this is my link there's also a promotion going on when you order $100 you get a parts magnet you'll see it on the front of the website but the 6-month PC membership would save you the most money If you ever have any questions in any products I'd be always happy to talk with you anytime Thanks again for your business in advance and for being a part of my RU-vid community. ❤️🇺🇸❤️ Professional YouLubher: Eben Rockmaker Regency Gold Direct Jobber AMSOIL Specialist (Dealer#: 5331179) 702-472-3614 ✅✅✅ New To AMSOIL I Recommend The AMSOIL 6 Month PC Membership because it will save you about $33 on a $100 purchase after the difference in tax - www.amsoil.com/offers/pc/?zo=5331179
Yeah but the 1.5 is so worth it. Often I'll flush my cars with a garden hose. Then dump in a cleaner to help clean everything, including what ever minerals were in the water from the hose. Then I'll do another flush with distilled water. Yes, very important to run your heater, there's also ways to help burp the system. Like raising the front end as high as you can while the car is running with radiator cap off etc etc etc.
@jawknee21 yes sometimes they change their radiator mid model year or possibly you could have a different motor than he has his car is the 2 L not the turbo I think we misspoke on the video so definitely worth checking the other side of the radiator underneath sometimes the petcock can be smack dab in the middle of the radiator as well in some vehicles have no petcock but most of the Hondas all have a petcock and they're very easy to get to just take your time it's tough to see but you should be able to find it and be able to reach down and get it

It should be a little teeny petcock at the very bottom of the radiator It's tough to see because it's very low lighting you'll need a flashlight for your phone light
I have a question. I am wondering if FL22 coolant/antifreeze would be suitable for this Honda? It says on the packaging that it does not contain amines and silicates. On the bottle of another brand of coolant, it says that it is Honda Type 2, Mazda FL 22 and a few others, and that it also does not contain borates and phosphates.
Some great questions honestly I don't know anything about that coolant you mentioned personally I run Amsoil low toxicity biodegradable coolant because of the great benefits you can mix it to the ratio you want also it needs and exceeds all the major specifications and your vehicle will run longer and stronger better performance and it has the lifelong formula which a long life formula which means it's good for 5 years 150,000 miles. This will give you the fluid capacities for your vehicle also I recommend the Amsoil Dominator coolant boost the orange bottle will make a big difference on warm up time you'll notice your heater core will also run more efficient with hot air coming out of your vents. ♥️ Find The Right Fluids For Your Vehicles - www.amsoil.com/guides/?zo=5331179
@@Syntheticoilprotection Before the Honda, I drove a Mazda, which required FL22, because I sold the Mazda to a colleague a year before changing the antifreeze, I ordered FL22 coolant online (Ravenol, German brand) so as not to pour in the wrong one. However, since someone on the forum wrote that it is already ready for use, I took too much of it, because it is actually a concentrate. And now I have 2 bottles of 1.5 liters each left.
How do you take off the A5 code once you change the coolant ? I just did a coolant flush and now some codes came up that I need a new thermostat because my coolant temperature is below regulating temperature . Is that common after changing the coolant ? Thanks for your videos, I appreciate it.
That's a great question Cynthia honestly I have no idea never heard of this I would think it's something special special to your vehicle in the computer could be a sensor problem I would definitely contact a technician that works on those cars and see what they recommend. ❤️🇺🇸❤️ Professional YouLubher: Eben Rockmaker Regency Platinum Direct Jobber AMSOIL Specialist (Dealer#: 5331179) 702-472-3614 ✅✅✅ I Recommend The AMSOIL 6 Month PC Membership because it will give you the Best Value. I tried doing to do this. This past weekend on my 2016 version and I couldn’t find the coolant knob. Did you guys take off an extra layer of stuff? Or is it in a different spot????
Not sure I know there was a belly pan there it may be under the belly pan on your car it also could be on the corner you'll see on the other Honda I did the Honda Pilot they had the petcock in the right-hand corner
@@Rissa891 I’m probably too late to help in your case, but should it help you or anyone else reading this... the video is of the 2.0L version. On the 1.5L the petcock is in the same place, but to get there you have to remove the intake resonator. It was a pain to get out, but I did it by pulling out the air intake housing. The resonator is attached to the housing with a strong rubber plug. After undoing the two screws keeping the housing in place, you will have to pull hard to get it free... Once it was exposed, I took it out from the bottom like a v challenging game of Tetris. It did come out eventually though. Frustrating as heck initially, but hope this helps.
I am not sure most likely it is a 3/8 drive spot you'll see one low bolt and one high volt and that is the drain and fill. If you take a look at my transmission fluid playlist you'll see a lot of similar vehicles on how they're set up

So that additive will help it warm up faster? I have the tiny 1.5t and here in VT it's freezing during winter. Takes forever to warm up, even with heat off. Then if it's super cold out going downhill I can watch the temp just drop. I also really want to switch over to amsoil CVT fluid , how much would I need to do a complete flush? 😆 I used to work at a Honda dealership too. Whoooaaa wait....oil change once a year? What?

I live in Europe, in the country of Slovenia. To make it easier to imagine, I should say that it borders neighboring countries: Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. I also have a 10 generation Honda Civic with a 1.5 engine. We haven't had severe winters in recent years. When I drive to work, somehow after 8 kilometers of moderate driving on the flat, my engine temperature barely reaches operating temperature. Then I have a downhill that is about 600 meters long. I have it in 4th gear with no foot on the gas and I too have noticed that at about 3C or less my engine temperature gauge starts to drop.
@@dejandezman6139 yeah, the 1.5t is super efficient at cooling, and very tiny. I had a 94 Civic hatch back in the day. I would have to put card board with holes in front of the radiator. Thing just wouldn't warm up in winter. The car they're using in the video is a 2.0 naturally aspirated. Probably last way longer than our 1.5t engines.
Can I use it with the existing coolant. I mean can I use it with the OEM coolant or I have to flush the OEM coolant and fill the radiator with AMSOIL anti freeze & coolant and then use it?? Please help me with this as soon as possible as I'm having confusion and having tension if I use it with the OEM coolant what will happen to my car's engine.
Yes you can use either with either you can use and mix the low toxicity biodegradable coolant with OEM coolant it's compatible with all other makes models coolants and colors except the waterless coolant also you can mix the Dominator with any other coolant as well and it will make a big difference I personally recommend changing the coolant earlier you'll see a much improvement with distilled water and the low toxicity I also love the Dominator coolant boost when you use my link here that would attach me to you in the future I can always answer all your questions about improving the performance Enlightenment of the vehicles equipment by choosing the right fluids as your independent Amsoil dealer👍☕️😃 ♥️ Find The Right Fluids For Your Vehicles - www.amsoil.com/lookup/auto-and-light-truck/?zo=5331179 ✅ Save 25% On Your Next Fluid Order: www.amsoil.com/offers/pc/?zo=5331179 ♥️ See Fluid Performance Tests - www.amsoil.com/performancetests.aspx?zo=5331179

I would read the full description of both of them there are some subtlety differences the biggest difference is the low toxicity won't hurt the animals the same way also it's a premix those are the two biggest differences I would definitely read both descriptions
There's fluid in the motor block there's fluid in the radiator there's fluid in the hoses and there's also fluid in the reservoir So when you drain it you don't get it all out so that's why it's always good to do a couple of drain and fills to help get as much out as possible
The best cooling is going to be less coolant and a higher percentage of distilled water and then you'd also want to appropriately add the Dominator coolant boost which is the little red bottle. Of course you can still run the Amsoil 50/50 coolant they are excellent I like the low-toxicity biodegradable because it lasts very long and also you can mix it to the exact percentage you like

If I owned that vehicle I would do a coolant change every 3 to 5 years or 30 to 60,000 mi depending on the coolant if I was running in severe service conditions very high heat operating conditions idling I would change it at 3 years or sooner
I mean if it was my car I would change it early just because I'm a maintenance freak and I really like my performance and power but if you're not worried about it there's nothing wrong with changing it at 60,000 mi as long as you're not doing severe service high heat driving 😉😉
I have Honda civic 2017 Turbo (1.5Lt) the engine mount in front passenger side getting hot, the engine make vibrated, when I installed a new one it is work around tow weeks , after two weeks start vibrated again . if you could let me, what is the problem,
Sounds like a turbo issue something could be overheating and melting the plastics or rubbers something with heat is causing the problem you need to find what is overheating
Yes you can mix them it's not recommended to go more than a year with a mixed so all you do is just do a drain and fill with distilled water for a couple times and you'll be good for 5 years or a hundred and fifty thousand miles whichever comes first

The Honda coolant has a very short lifespan also it's a strong chemical that is tougher on the environment definitely a low quality coolant compared to others on the market there are a lot of different applications for coolant the toughest is the 18-wheeler specification and that's what the low toxicity biodegradable coolant is it meets and exceeds the 18-wheeler specs which is very difficult it keeps from pitting the aluminum so you'll have a longer engine life and the longer water pump life very important for a vehicle. Great question Mike On this one there's nothing to bleed All you do is do a drain and fill a couple times until you get most of the old fluid out I like to get at least 90% out and then I put the good stuff in.

I was just getting ready to do a video on that the other day and then it was too hot out I wasn't feeling good so hopefully we can get to that soon when it cools down a little
That car is going to be a little tougher than most you're going to see there is a hose at the bottom of the radiator that hose has to come off in the fluid is going to go everywhere it's going to go both directions out of the radiator and out of the hose and then you have to fill it up from the top of the radiator with the top hose so some of the hoses are going to have to come off is what it looks like to me and it just looks like a pretty drawn out type of job
@@Syntheticoilprotection I hope your feeling better! To begin, I would like to thank you for everything you have done and are doing. I would truly appreciate it ! Unfortunately, there are very few videos on Jeep Renegade regarding transmission, coolant change, ptu and diff fluid change, etc... The Jeep Renegade community would definitely appreciate it !
@@Syntheticoilprotection I noticed the two hose and I figured the lower hose would allow it to drain. However, I was confused about the rest of it, bleeding, and burbing. I found one or two articles on the coolant flush but they are reported difficulty removing the hose.

It will be very similar you'll see a little bolt most likely 14 or 15 mm and that will be your drain bolt sometime you have to remove the belly pan It's like a plastic cover that covers underneath the motor Take all the belly pans off and look around you'll definitely see it You can always check a diagram on a owner's manual on your vehicle but if you look around you'll definitely see it it'll be near the oil filter
@@Syntheticoilprotection thanks brother. I had to unscrew the intake box from the bottom of the car and then try to slide my hand and use a plier to unscrew the bolt. Luckily I got it done!
