Added the hitch following your instructions and it was easy. The job was twice as hard as it could have been because I didn't have a closed end wrench to hold the nut in place. The wiring harness they send now has built in clips to mount the harness to your frame and does not require you to ground it. Great video!

Excellent work, just one thing, the hitch has to be tightened to 80 pounds with a torque wrench, this is a very important step.

Thank you for such a marvelously done video. I bought my 2015 Black Sahara last week, ordered my hitch right after watching your 'how to' and installed it yesterday in about an hour. And all for under $75. I've ordered my fuel filler cover upgrade and your video for that looks easy enough to follow. BTW, I grew up in Newton Center, MA and love hearing your accent. Reminds me of my childhood.

I bought OEM hitch kit for my 2017 Jeep. The wiring harness is very different. It has 7-way terminal which includes controls for backup lights. The installation is much more involved.

We installed basically what you would get if the Wrangler came from the factory with either Trailer Tow Group or the Max Tow Package (4 door only) and both come with a 4 pin connector. There is a 7 way OEM that you can add such as you did yourself, but when we were looking for our Wrangler they all come with 4 pin connectors. The brochure also confirms this. Thanks for your input. :)

WeRmudfun Good to know, thanks. I didn't know there were two different OEM wirings. I think I'm going to get 4-pin wiring like yours. To install 7-way one, I have to draw the wiring all the way to the engine compartment.. By the way, my hitch itself is also slightly different than yours. Locking nuts are pre-welded on the hitch part. There are no washers. Just 4 bolts go into the pre-welded nuts from back of hitch towards rear of the car.

I ordered a curt hitch and wiring harness from ETrailer the bumper is different on the Rubicon Recon there is already 4 bolts threw the frame from the factory where the hitch would mount with no gap between frame and the bumper for the nuts theres no install video but the forums talk about the Hard Rock bumper that looks exactly the same thats says theres a metal spacer thats removes and the hitch fills the void waiting on hitch delivery hopefully the 4 bolts threw the frame don't also hold the bumper as well I guess I will find out soon enough

Etrailer has all their hitches marked for the standard bumper. Post again, it will be interesting to see if they do fit. Thanks Just check after I posted this. Quadratec has the tow hitch that does fit the Hard Rock bumpers.

WeRmudfun My hitch got delivered lastnight the installation was easier than the standard wrangler bumper the Rubicon Recon metal bumper has the nuts in the factory bumper just had to remove the 4 factory bolts and retaining washers that hold nuts in place between spacer plate and mount hitch and reinstall the 4 factory bolts as to instructions didn't need to use hardware that came with the hitch but had to use a 3/8 drive ratchet with 18m socket I couldn't drop the hanger the rubber is like a rock being 14°outside and starting to snow in New Jersey the harness will be another day Piece of Cake🖒

Check your wiring. We didn't have a problem with the install.

The hitch that I bought had the nuts welded to it with that one you did not have to lower the muffler took 15 min to install.

I'm torn between the flush-mount Curt and the extended Draw-tite. Can you tell me if you found the flush-mount a Pain in the butt when hitching up with the spare in the way?

Unless you get a hitch that will clear the spare tire completely, you have to work around it. We don’t find it a problem at all and we like how it looks when we are not towing.

Looks like where the wiring plug is mounted under the hitch will get ripped off on the first 4x4 track you go on.

The Jeep's main purpose is to be a toad for traveling with the RV and do light offroading. If it does get ripped off, I'll just splice in a new plug and relocate, it's not a big deal.

its goes on it, but haven't triedto remove the rubber hangers to see if all the screws would go. I also have dual aftermarket exhaust on mine as well but the hangers are the same. I think I can do it, and my good friend who is the service manager at one of our local dodge jeep dealers tells me it will fit, and he can make it fit. don't know really if I want to try it, but if I don't than I just wasted the money for the hitch that has already been sitting in my basement for like 6 to 7 months. you can see my jeep on wva jeep community. that one is mine and ive done all the stuff my self. let me know what you think please. it means a lot to me

I am wondering which Front/Rear Axle Ratio you chose (3.21 or 3.73) for your Jeep, and why? I am not quite clear on what I should base my axle ratio selection on. Thanks!

Our last jeep had 3.73 which allows you to run bigger tires and tow more. You can go with larger gears than those also. We now have the 3.21, which will give us better gas mileage. Seeing how the Jeep is under warranty for 3 years, we will be keeping the gear ratio the way it is for the next 3 years. :)

You are welcome. Yes we do intend to video the lift. The biggest problem right now is if we do the lift, we void our warranty. The dealer said the only way around it is to buy the Mopar lift and have them install it...that's not going to happen, we'll do it ourselves! :)

Congrats on retirement. I jumped my ship three years ago, at age 48, walked away from the whole enchilada, and never once questioned myself. Wife has since retired, too. Love life now. You will too. :-)) Funny reality: tell people you're planning to hike the AT, learn the violin, or start your own business and they'll all tell you, "Well, you're not getting any younger, you'd better damn well get on with it then, huh." However, tell them you're quitting your job, and they all say, "Jesus, retire? But, you're so young." LOL Ironic!. Best to you both.
