Thanks for the quick explanation! Getting ready to upgrade the radio on my Kia Forte, its' the LX but appears to be the same housing so should be easy peasy.
@@jtflyboy Ended up getting a third party radio with a conversion module. It's pretty simple, just take your time and you shouldn't have any problems. As I understand it, you can't just do a straight swap of the stock LX radio for the EX touchscreen without significant modification, and it's really not worth the hassle.
@@jtflyboy That's what I read, not a simple swap and it'll work. I figured, why do I need a 6 year old radio when I can buy a brand new one that's better? For a normal third party radio, however, it's basically pop out the old one, install the module to interface with the OEM components, and then connect the new one and it just works. Any decent mechanic will have no issue doing that.
Crash the Conure I went to a local dealer and got electrical schematics and realized it was more involved than I wanted. The S head unit has three bulkhead connectors. the LX only has two. And I don’t believe it’s just an extra one for the S - if I remember correctly, two of the connectors are different between trims, due to different sensors being added to the S
Crash the Conure Anything is possible, I just don’t think this upgrade is a drop in replacement upgrade. You’d need to check wiring diagrams, verify the pin-out on the connectors are the same between the two existing connectors in the LX and the two connectors in the S, and then determine what the third connector is for, and whether or not the S radio will work without it or if you’ll have to rig something up to get it to work
