This guy REALLY knows his cars. I love that he speaks quickly. I am 6’4” and fit great in the front (rear is tight). The MKZ is the best looking of its class, too.
This car lost me when you said it's got significant wind noise. Great review! If I bought one, I'd opt for the 2.0T AWD. I have the 2012 MKZ with AWD--it's nice, but I've wished for a softer ride and less ambient noise. It sounds like, despite the rocketing price and packed-in features, they still do not have it quiet and comfortable enough. I like and need the fold down rear seat, which is why I didn't go one model higher. I don't need the most powerful engine, but I do need AWD. I love a quiet interior and a great sound system. My ideal: this car in black and chrome with 2.0, AWD, hard top (no roof glass), premium sound without Sirius/XM (I dislike that company), tan leather interior, narrower, 16-inch wheels for a quieter, softer ride.
THIS is the perfect lincoln. not the 3.0 engine, the hybrid. Yuo don't need horsepower for this kind of car. All you need is a quiet and comfortable ride, with nice interiors.
I mostly agree but a little horsepower is nice. I have the 2016 with the 3.7 and I enjoy the performance while being comfortable. I like the front end of the 2017+ models better though lol. May trade mine in for the 3.0t although I like hearing the exhaust of the cyclone engine lol. Can’t have it all!!
I have the MKZ hybrid. Driving between suburbia and Manhattan I get between 40 and 50 mpg's. It's not the speediest car off the line but around here, with all the traffic, who needs speedy! Very comfortable. Nice controls. With the fold-down rear seats I don't mind that the trunk isn't that big. Plus, from the front, the rear, and especially in profile, it doesn't look like anything else.
@@burberrycurry7517 They just said that because they thought American car is a piece of junk. Maybe Chrysler and GM but Ford/Lincoln did a good job making car.
@@burberrycurry7517 58 grand is a lot of money to pay for a car that for some reason is only worth 29,000 after one year. I think it's sort of an everyman luxury car. I like that Lincoln makes an affordable luxury car. It's beautiful, drives smooth as silk, and has a lot of useful features. If I could change one thing, it would be the gears. I don't like the placement, and I like the gearshift handle. The placement makes it easier to accidentally bump it and shift into park or reverse going down the road. You can absolutely destroy a transmission that way. But situational awareness can eliminate that. I bought the select model and it comes in on Friday. I've test driven the mkz and knew I had to have it.
Skyhawk1987Turbo Thank you! And although the first car ever made technically was by Karl Benz, it was Señor Henry Ford who had the vision to actually mass produce the Automobile so that all can enjoy driving car's which in return gave way to this great lifestyle of which we know now as true car enthusiast/car junkies! Yup!
Best MKZ I've seen to date. There's a lot to like in this car. It looks fantastic IMHO, which I suspect we have the Jaguar connection to thank for that. I'm wondering if maybe the MKZ adopted those bladder sears from Jag as well? So choice! Love the push button transmission controls, that really cleans up the dash IMHO. No shift lever or stank to deal with. And for once, the price isn't over the top! But geez...that generic 6-speed. Once again, LIncoln finds itself slightly behind the curve, in a segment where the competition is tight. Once that new transmission ships, the 400-horse plant will be truly fearsome. I would NOT get the hybrid for sure, of this or any brand. But Alex is right. That Cadenza is hard to beat for price. I think if I wanted to go American, I'd save up a little more money and get that new Caddy sedan ( not the SUV). I spaced the model, but the newest one seems very intriguing to me. The price of that car climbs quickly from the base, but the base is the best value IMHO. Anyway, again I"d at least wait for the new transmission on the Lincoln.
I wish Ford instead of bailing out on passenger vehicles had worked to improve them. I thought they had some promising ideas that just needed to be fine-tuned.
Really like that lincoln front end. The double wing grille really didn't do it for me, but if they give the mkx this styling, I'd be on it. I really think they are stepping up their game and differentiating them like GM has with cadillac.
Got a 2013 mkz hybrid with 62k miles for $8301 usd. It's such a beauty. It's a light blue color with beige interior and panoramic sunroofs. Such an upgrade from my 2009 elantra
As always, GREAT review Alex. A couple of points.. you mentioned update to the rear end, I don't think much has changed there..it's always had the horizontal LED strip, etc. I would strongly consider this car new, but for a used car buyer, the MKZ is a huge bargain as they tend to lose quite a bit of value.
This is a fantastic car, my only dislike on the old one was the Baleen Whale grille and they've fixed that beautifully. Even though this hybrid system is now almost a decade old, it's still one of the best. Super smooth and quiet, 30+ MPG all day even if you beat the shit out of it, and plenty of power. I grew up with 80s and 90s cars - 7.8 0-60 still seems "fast" to me, haha
I love my 2015 hybrid mkz. It's very nice! Absolutely LOVE IT. I find it to have enough power to satisfy me also. The front seats are BOMB, I have a fractured tailbone and it's so comfy. I love the massage. The heat doesnt work that good in the seat
Love the car's design. I wish more cars would have their taillights go the width of the car (and maybe a slight wrap-around). Reminds me of Buicks from the late 1980s
Great review Alex! Heres my 2 cents... If you dont care about depreciation, want luxury and tech, and are looking for the most bang for your buck, then look no further than this Lincoln. I recently picked up a 2017 with almost EVERYthing in it for under 30k! No its not a Black Label, I settled for FWD, the entry level Revel audio system (14 speakers and still incredible), and the 2.4l 4 turbo (still great low end torque), but every other check mark was checked. On top of all that I got the CPO 6k 100k comprehensive. warranty. There are deals to be had right now that will net you an incredible feature laden car for less money than the competition. To put things in perspective, Ive owned a lot of cars, including this cars near competitors...the Audi A6, MB E350, BMW 535i xDive, Kia Cadenza (1st gen) just to name a few... Save for the Cadenza most of those cars drove better, and had a higher amount of luxury and cache (again, save for the Cadenza), but NONE of these vehicles matched the luxury amenity levels of style and tech the Lincoln provides unless youre willing to spend a LOT more money. The delta between the Lincoln and those cars is close enough that in the end it wont matter...to me anyway. I enjoy driving, and Ive owned 4 BMWs, and nothing, NOTHING drives like a BMW, but I wanted a car to future proof me tech wise and still provide the luxury Ive been accustomed to...this 2017 MKZ fit the bill. Price and spec wise its be hard to beat right now as Im not going to spend 40 to 60k for a comparable German car. Also...I looked at the new Cadenza...looked at it long and hard, and it matches the MKZ feature set spec for spec (save for AWD). I had the previous model and loved it, and the new look took its refinement and content to the next lev,...so Alex was right, looking at just value its a winner...BUT, me personally, I felt the look/style and percieved cache of the Lincoln was the differentiator... for ME. I dont get hung up on brands too much (hence owning a Kia) but I do have a soft spot for Ford and Lincoln. I'ved owned an Expedition, and a Navigtor, and recently my wife had the MKT...and I never had an issue or problem with any of those vehicles (Ive had Cadlillacs too, and had problemes!). I agree that Lincoln has lost its way over the years, but theyve coaxed me back in! With the new Continental, Navigator, Nautilus (re-named MKX) and the MKZ (soon to be renamed) I think Lincoln is on to something. Now, I WILL go back to BMW eventually, but for now its the MKZ for me! That my 2 cents...!
Just a note. Toyota and Ford share cross patent licensing with their hybrid systems. But of course, that is intellectual properties. In real life, they build their own hybrid unit independently.
Yep. The Toyota, GM and Ford planetary hybrid systems are all closely related in terms of design but no actual parts are shared. The new Chrysler system is also related in terms of general design but it's a little farther apart than Voltec2, the latest HSD in the Prius Prime or the Ford hybrid units.
Again, front seats in high trim Lincolns are cooled, not merely ventilated like other cars. They circulate cooled air. How do you overlook this detail every time on Ford/Lincoln products?
Ray Foster My Fusion Platinum also has air cooled and heated seats. Two cars are almost identical. I do like the Lincoln styling much better. Preferred Lincoln. Limited Lincoln dealers sent me to Ford. Easier to service.
Hi Alex, Thanks for yet another detailed and thoughtful review. I was surprised to see you road noise score as a B, though. I am familiar with this car and it is very quiet. I am wondering what the road conditions were during your test. Wet pavement and tires will definitely increase the road noise compared to when they are dry. Also, were you on the "gas" while taking your measurement? I know it is quite hilly where you live. :-)
I noticed his test car is running on the larger 19" wheels and in my experience the 18" wheels lower road noise, raise the fuel economy, and smooth out the ride all in modest amounts but make the slight improvement in handling with the larger wheels a poor value in my book.
Now that's taking one for the team, doing this video in the rain. You didnt miss a step. Great professional criteria met in all your videos. You rarely miss any details worth noting. Gives a trustworthy score of 9.9/10....
EXCELLENT REVIEW! I will never waste time watching reviews by others on youtube or anywhere else! I cannot believe that there is even one thumbs-down to this review!!! WTH?!
I love the hybrids so far. I owned a 2011 and now a 2016 MKZ hybrid. I just wish my 2016 had the Sync3 with Android Auto. But other than that I'm very happy and see very little difference with the 2017 models. I didn't realize my tire size is probably keeping me from getting better gas mileage, but I always felt my braking was top notch so I can live with the Delta. As always an excellent review.
Great review. Best reviewer on cars I have seen thus far. Completely thorough and answered all my questions regarding MKZ Hybrid vs ES 300h. Will definitely look forward to getting a Lincoln when I'm in the market for a new car.
Hi Alex. You should consider to do reviews on PCs, open another channel and let's say call it Alex on PCs whatever. You will get at least 10x more subs than reviewing cars and I can see you have the potential to become one of the best PCs reviewers on RU-vid.
I test drove a 2019 MKZ hybrid and my decibel measurements showed it was 3x quiet or 9db than my daily driver. That being said, the 2018 v6 camry XLE was 2x quieter or 6db on average in my testing back to back.
Probably the most underrated/overlooked car in the segment. Because it's a Lincoln, it carries a lot of stigma and perception with it that unfortunately keeps a lot of people from taking it seriously.
I actually get intrigued when you said the MKZ handles better than the TLX. American luxury cars are getting better in the handling department. I'm curious to the 3.0 GTDI, but the fact it chugs Premium fuel like a V8 is scary.
You should've mention the Accord Hybrid and the Camry Hybrid as competition as well. They might not be as luxurious BUT they probably sell more units than the Fusion and MKZ added together. And are significantly cheaper. I wish. You'd stop comparing Lincoln to BMW's and Mercedes' that's ludicrous.
Alex completely agree on your picks. I would only have the MKZ ahead of the Cadenza if they made the Black Label standard on it so It topped out at $45k. That would be a steal. As is, the Cadenza interior is far greater than the Lincoln without the black label leather for far less. Cadenza for me
Great review. You certainly have a way with words. Unfortunately I wish you had compared a fully loaded Black Label 2017 MKZ with the 2017 Fusion Platinum rather than a generic mkz vs fusion. Feature by feature the highest end versions of these two automobiles seem to be a match, minus the extended warranty and free car washes, etc with the Black Label MKZ. I own a 2017 Fusion Platinum and I'm very happy with it and would enjoy listening to your opinions on it vs the competition. Probably the only other vehicle I would look at in the future is a Black Label MKZ, provided Ford still makes them.
If Lincoln wants to be taken seriously, they must up their game. The Black Label package should be standard fare on the 3.0TT Mkz. Use real aluminum, higher grade plastics and go all out. Lincoln has a lot of potential but whoever is in charge needs to get his/her head out of their ass and work.
Nice work. I always appreciate your evaluations and how you compare the subject car against competitors. This one was especially helpful as I'm shopping LIncoln and Audi. No longer needing to look at Lexus. Thanks.
Great Review Alex. I like the updated front end on this Lincoln. However, the rear end should have gotten a better update. This updated Lincoln in the AWD 3.0T will make a nice CPO buy in about 2-3 years
10:27 This is why I hate leather seats. At least it's one of the reasons... Is this car 15 years old? Because mine is, and it has 200k miles on it. And I just spotted the first little wrinkles on the seat. Ok, mine has the arguably superior and more premium cloth seats.
the only thing that looks good in the interior is that steering wheel, everything is soooo outdated and cheap looking. Lexus is already providing leather padded center console even for base models.
SInce it hasn't stopped raining here in CA for a while, the next few videos will be dodging raindrops as well LOL. I think the F-Pace may be the wettest we've filmed.
i like this review and the arrow on the side showing what part of the review its at. Don't know if its possible but making the arrow move to denote where it is in relation to the section would help people that want to jump sections.
Good review Alex +Alex on Autos but you didn't go over the buttons on the right side of the radio! I wanted to know what the "auto hold" button is for!
Man you just love the Kia. I drove one and fell in love with it. I do hate that the rear seats wont fold down. That should be an easy fix. Kia really needs to tweak this car to match the market. Im leaning towards the lincoln however. I ran into a guy on reddit who is a Lincoln salesman. So it was nice to pick his brain before i even step foot in the dealer.
When this generation of the MKZ came out in 2013, I heard and read a lot of criticism about the exterior styling. Many of its harshest critics said that the front didn’t seem to match the rear. In my opinion, though, which doesn’t count for much, this “refreshed” version is more deserving of that criticism. The original design was that of a wedge, being low and pointed in the front and high in the rear, with a sharply cut-off rear deck that is almost integrated spoiler-like. The refreshed version has a blunt nose that mimics the look of the new Continental, which I understand, but again, in my opinion, it completely ruins the wedge look. It’s almost as if they were trying to attach a wedge design with that of a reverse-wedge. To me, the nose isn’t ugly, by any means, but it doesn’t fit the rear end at all, bordering on an overall ugly appearance. I felt that the 2013-2016 MKZ’s were probably the most beautiful cars on the market, below a $100,000 price-point. The refresh, however, completely ruined that. I just think that, if they had to refresh the design to mimic the other models in the Lincoln family, they should have just refreshed the entire design, not just the front.
Underrated car, but I hate the new tacked-on grille. The old grille was way better. Strange that they gave this a facelift, but did not make the transmission competitive 1:40 Love the sleek, aggressive profile.
Alex, I spoke with a couple Ford reps at the Chicago Auto Show about this last week. Neither would commit to when / where / or even if the new 9-speed would show up. Curious whether compatibility problems are still being ironed out with regard to their turbo engines.
My respect and admiration ☺ for the grill on the Lincoln MKX 2016 is because when I look at it has the appearance of angel wings. Giving the grill a celestial style 😇 to the front bumper 🚘 of the luxury vehicle.
Another thing to keep in mind in deciding in brands….and that is badge ID….face it…you will be judged differently if you are driving a Lincoln or Lexus compared to a KIA. It’s just human nature. It may not be important to you, but it will affect resale.
I drove one of these and a crossover could never make strides so smoothly over asphalt. The interior space is acceptable. Overall the vehicle dynamics are superior to suvs. Sadly there's no 3rd generation mkz.
Just got approved for my reserve I cant be more than happy cause i willl have thenonly unique panoremic roof that actually opens the entire thing and not just half of the roof
Why so low power for a hybrid 2.0? Look at the Golf GTE it has 200hp with a 1.4T and electric motor. (150hp 1.4TSI and 102HP electric engine which only uses 511hp in hybrid mode) with tuning you can get 310hp
Compared to my 2008 MKC- 6 Cycl? Mine is a lot Faster( Pocket Rocket) but ararely did more than 30 mph( per my On board Computer) and 18/27 MPG in my 2008=Gas..I rented a Hybrid for a week of Driving up here in SE Wisconson.( Local ave is 25 mph and Country is 60 mph) Ened up buying a Used Rental 2017 MKC Hybrid( The One I rented !16k off New Price = $21k + 5% taxes =$22k.. with a Optional 75k mi warty thru the Local Lincoln Dealer..for only $300..to me? Well worth it..My 08'? Sold it Locally for $6k and gave the buyer a 30 warranty( didin;t need it ! and I spent $3k on my 08' a Yr earlier and had it full restored ( Tires, Brakes, Shocks, tie Rods, Ball Joints ) had 69.4k miles on it..> Top Retail Condition. I think the MKZ Hybrid is a Excellent choise for my Kind of Low miles driving( use it for our Summer Home in Wi. but use a Used-205 STS at our Fla Twnhme( Got our Cad from a former ( Now Deceased) Neighbor with only 16k miles on it and at 1/2 Price.
Some one has to mention the fact the nada is horrible on the MKZ at 6 months and even worst after and before 1 year is up, please some say something, from what I've been told this does not happen with the Cadillac?, I mean come on this a Lincoln, you know?, this is supposed to be fords upper model???????🤔
Why is this compared to the Cadillac ATS not the CTS? It's almost the same size as the CTS.. Also why not mentioned the Caddys at the end? Compared it to the Kia but not to the Cadillac.. ? One would think someone is considering the Lincoln MKZ is more likely to think about another American such as the Cadillac CTS or even the Buick Lacrosse than a Kia Cadenza..
I don't understand why Lincoln continuously changes their grille design. Pick a design and just stick with it. All of their SUVs have the split winged grille, but their sedans don't? If their looking to establish themselves as a luxury brand then picking a grille design should be at the top of the list..
Hey Alex, after watching quite a bunch of your videos, I started to wonder do you know any mid size luxury car that handles worse than Acura TLX? Because it looks like all the other brands handles better than the Acura TLX even in SH-AWD trim according to your reviews.
AlexonAutos ….perhaps the best, thorough yet succinct car reviews…he gets to the point which I appreciate….many car review channels are filled with fluff and guys wildly flailing there arms as they review….
What about comparing this to the 2017 Buick LaCrosse?? It fits into this large Premium sedan market! But I gotta say, you really love that Kia Cadenza and I don't blame you!
Ugh...those gauges and steering wheel look awful. And I absolutely hate push button/dial trans selectors. I hope this doesn't eventually become industry norm
Have you seen the Fusion/Lincoln Conversion? Yuo can't tell the Fusion is a Lincoln and cost is ave of only $1k ! can you have this Hybrid Lincoln for 38% Less!
