I second this! I'm tired of hearing about straight line performance. I love cornering performance.

Especially seeing as something as soulless as a tesla can easily beat anything on the road in that regard.

Yeah, still kinda pricy. At it's price range a SH manual Audi R8 V8 might be a better overall deal. I mean 100kg heavy, but +30HP and the gated manual ooooohhhh boy. I can totally see people putting more miles on that as a daily driver rather than an Evora 400.

Given the rarity of the 400 they will likely hold their values for some time. You could always buy a used one, as long as you’re careful you can find a great one. The Elise is also another great option, although it is a very bare bones race car for the road. I’ve driven both of these and they’re both incredible. The only real drawback to owning a Lotus is there are not that many dealerships, although there are lots of reputable places that will work on them, you just have to look around. Your best bet is to join a Lotus club (especially the Lotus Club Of America if you live in the US) before you even buy one, they can offer you advice and have cars and parts for sale. Most Lotus owners are obsessive about their cars, and you can save a lot of money and headaches with their help. Usually the cars that get sold between club members have been well maintained, and I’ve found the people to be honest and they’ll tell you if it’s been in an accident or has issues. Don’t even bother test driving any Lotus if you can’t afford to buy it, because if you drive it you’ll fall in love.

@@tavirosu25 One thing people don't consider is ongoing costs. If you can do your own oil changes, the Lotus running costs are close to the Toyota because of the engine. And, reliable - you can wind them out daily and they just keep going, like a Toyota. I've known some guys with Audis and they had some pretty expensive repairs.

@Dcc357 don’t get me wrong, I love all lightweight sports cars, but with equal mods, ND beats 86 any day, 500 lbs difference means it’ll never corner like a Miata.

I'm genuinely considering one of these, probably not right now, as I'm in my late 20s and not really in a financial position to afford one currently. But if I'm planning to get one in the next 5 years or so. Can you tell me, are these cars too good to be true? Because from where I'm standing, these are gorgeous, great handling, yet basically rock solid mid-engine sports cars, that you can find for a reasonable price on the used market. Am I missing something? Some horror show that would make me regret buying one? Or are these things just genuinely amazing, well rounded cars that most people don't know about.

I personally can't imagine the C8 to be comparable in a corner or on a track, but in a straight line the C8 will definitely be faster.

C8 is a crappy GM product.

I would prefer the "uniqueness" of the lotus! Everyone's different though.

Get the Lotus. It’s not as outrageously fast as the C8, but it is still a very fast car that FEELS fast. My brother owns a 2015 Evora and it’s everything a sports car should be: agile, fast, addictive, involving. GM should be ashamed of themselves to offer a sports car with only an automatic transmission, WTF were they thinking? If you love to shift and race through the gears to a beautiful soundtrack, the Lotus is for you. Lotus has always made cars for people who love to drive, even if the build quality and reliability often sucked. Of course, Corvettes are also known for the same thing. I had a 1973 black and gold Lotus Europa for 10 years (I’m a mechanic and it was an easy car to maintain, even if it did require lots of care) that was the most amazing car to drive. I put all modern electrical components in it, upgraded the radiator, and put an engine from a Toyota MR2 in it because it was your typically bulletproof Toyota engine. It was a very fast car, even before the engine swap. What’s so great about Lotus is they make sure their cars are light, so it doesn’t take much power to make them haul ass. But the Europa, like all Lotus’, handled like the steering wheel was connected to your brain. I knew lots of guys (especially the ones with muscle cars) who would make fun of its small size, or that it must be slow....they always shut up real fast when I took them for a ride on an empty winding road and let it rip.

The Corvette is trying to be all things to more people than the Lotus and is a compromised car. It's more of a tech tour de force in its price range, emphasizing its technological and performance superlatives rather than the subjective aspects about the interaction with the driver. The Lotus is all about those subjective aspects; if you want a car that can pull double duty as what most people consider acceptable for a daily, or if you only care about your performance numbers on a track, the Corvette is for you. If you want a driving experience, the Lotus is easily the better choice even in less powerful variants. That being said, literally any Corvette produced between model years 1953 through 2019 is a better choice as a driving experience than a C8.

To me, the most annoying fact about the C8, is exactly this, the automatic transmission is the only option.

Should be a new MR2 since its mid engined.

I’m 6’3” and fit in an Evora 400 just fine with room to spare in every direction. The only thing I didn’t like about the dimensions was the low roofline looking out front

It isn't usually uncovered (I didn't know that was where my battery was until seeing this - 40k miles and never needed to find it).

If I am not mistaken this car actually has the same engine as a Toyota Camry but they added a supercharger to it. It makes Lotus engines fairly reliable compared to some other sports cars.

In most states, a windshield replacement is covered under insurance.
