Believe Inyourself "Fast" is relative. Its slow compared to V8 muscle cars but fast compared to your everyday cars. V8 muscle cars are slow when compared to supercars. Btw the MX5 was 10s faster around a short track than a hellcat ;). I'll take performance you can use daily over useless highway power every day of the week.
If you haven't actually driven a Miata (and I mean properly driven on a twisty road), you're in no position to talk about how they drive. So many ignorant comments on here from clueless people who think horsepower is everything.
I was one of those clueless people until I inherited a Mk2/NB a month or so ago. Yes, it is 20 years old (and smells like it) but it is damn good fun to drive, and at legal speeds too. The suspension is good at dealing with crappy English roads, the clutch pedal action is light but not too light, the steering is precise and the short, notchy gear shift is a joy. I understand the love for these cars now.
Online commenters (mostly inexperienced teens) love to regurgitate flawed advice. E.g. Toyotas are boring, Subarus are unreliable, Corvettes are unpredictable....
My father got a launch edition RF, and just on the street, I agree, it is quieter compared to the roadster. Can’t wait to get it on the track. Thanks for the great video.
Most enjoyable car.. I bought 1 and love it. For people complaining about the price go see how much other hardtops cost. Having driven the zo6 and 458 before this car is just as enjoyable if not more than any other car. wtf am i gonna do with a car that hits 60mph in 2nd gear. This has just the right amount of power for backroads and track for personal enjoyment and not set lap records.
My lawyer has that exact car and color.. drove it yesterday... it is such an easier car to drive and anyone learning manual for the first time they can really understand the idea behind it and the car works with the driver.
Because of reviews like this I bought the ND Club soft top last year. LOVE it....It's a summer May-Nov) car for me.... the tires suck.. roads colder than 50 and there's no grip. :) Overall... get this car!
I love miatas. I daily a 94. But for 30k I'll wait 10 years before I buy one. Fantastic car though. In a world of over complicated and over weight cars, Mazda did well with this one.
Digging it!!👍👍👍 Find a bad review on these, go ahead, I’ll wait. 🤔🤔 I haven’t seen one, all smiles.👍👍😎😎 Engine song like music. I may have to watch again. Thanks for taking us along.👍👍😎😎😎
I've always liked this car, but couldn't fit (easily) in previous generations. I'm a slim 6'2" and if Matt can fit, I have renewed hope now. Time to hit a showroom!
I don't understand why Miatas get the "girl's car" rap. If it was a Miata with and automatic, I would understand. Honestly, I've never driven a Miata, but if it's fun as everyone says it is, I'd love to have one.
I'm sure lots of people get something from these track reviews. I hate them because its not how the average person will use the car but at least this guy is entertaining.
I love the look of the RF Miata, I just wish they had gone with a manual targa to save both weight and cost, because at $30k these thing's are getting pretty expensive for a 155hp car.
So I think what we've learned here is that the MX-5 is a very balanced and easy to control car that can be thrown into some oversteer even without much power.
fair enough, but the mx5 you could own for 10-20 years, drive it daily. A porsche might sell for 30k, but maintenance would probably push that figure up by 2-5k each year. i mean most porsches don't go past 100,000km
I would absolutely love to have one of these cars. I've been waiting for you to review this one! I'd still love to see a canyon video of it though even though it would be repetitive of this video haha.
The less powerful the engine is the more you feel the lacking power. And that's not a matter of someone's opinion - it's just a fact because the AC compressor is powered by the engine. People who say it make's no difference may just have a very poor judgement.
lol I like how you put what you tried to remember to say in the description so we won't bother saying it in the cmments. XD ...gonna say it anyway: "Retractable...rooF"
I absolutely love this car, the back could have been better but I love the package. The little splitter en spoiler makes it look a lot better. Why are there two antennas? I hate the large aerial antenna.
wish Mazda would just stick the 2.5l in there. Its essentially the same size externally as the 2.0 but has 184hp. It's a low revver but a few minor tweaks to help it breathe a little better it would be perfect.
Matt's speed count perfectly describes how off the well known "you will never need more power than this" cliche for these Miatas is. It's true for the first 2 days of owning the car, after that you get frustrated with how slow it actually is.
It probably depends on where you live. If you live in the mountains then yes, it's got plenty of power. Anywhere else in America, without all the corners, and yes the car will feel slow pretty quickly. I'm not saying it NEEDS more power, but it really ought to have the option for the people who want it.
If i'd owned one i wouldnt admit my beloved car that i paid for is slow as well, but only you will know how many times you yell "cmon" with the gas pedal on the floor wishing it had some more punch to it.
