Great review. Its like a cabin far into the mountains; There is almost nothing comfortable or fun about it, but when you're there there is no place you would rather be.
It’s been my daily driver for the past 4 years, local and cross-country. I love it! The interior is smaller than one would think, but it’s an all-around great truck.
This has been my daily driver for the past 5.5 years and I still love it as much as day 1. The review is spot-on. Seating for a family is tight, and the back seats are not prioritized. The trunk deserves more credit than it got, it's huge. All in all, I highly recommend!
@@shohhhhh9768the g55 amg is more reliable. I owned by for 3 years now. Only one $2000 repair for the fuel control module. Other than that just oil change.
"Always thirsty cube" - this thing has the aerodynamics of a f*cking fridge on the road but it has like a jet engine inside that allows it to defy all physics somehow and this is why we love it! Unlike the boring typical or electric cars, this one is sassy and dramatic, which makes it so fun
I sold a Jeep Sahara for a g63 for the engine. Drives like a Ford truck, rattles like a car from the 80s, but the engine sounds glorious! Has been a nightmare to maintain but, just as the other comments say I wouldn't want anything else. Just took it on a long drive and I got a thumbs up from a 911 Carrera s, a x750i, and a gtr. It's becoming more of a collectors item rather than that "Hollywood" prestige it's created because the new ones have taken over LA. We've debated selling it, but I just don't see anything with as much character.
this was the first fast car i rode in. I was sixteen and the son of a neighbor bought this and was visiting his parents. driving this through german small towns felt like driving a huge middle finger hahahah.
Your description of the driving experience, the loose steering and every bump will vibrate the car, is exactly how I'd describe driving an early 2000s minivan. Albeit the benz does have more power and character, the comfortability sounds very similar
Had to hit like before the video even started. I've driven these a lot when I worked for Mercedes. They're definitely cool but not something I would pick out for a daily driver. If I had the money, I would abuse it all I could on and off road.
Cool video as always! Kudos for what you are doing here on RU-vid and the message about respecting cars and the car culture but I have just one request, try and bring some videos of a classic Mini Cooper please (if you have the opportunity)!!!
I just discovered this channel and I absolutely LOVE it and the message! Drive things that don’t make any sense and enjoy it. The complete antitheses of that Doug Cornyass’s videos. Glad to be here and here’s to me being late for work watching these vids.
I know that it's not the best thing; terrible fuel economy, horrible steering, not comfortable, but guess what? Cars were made to be a fun way of transportation. This is exactly what the G-Wagen does! Therefore, this is my dream car. I am only thirteen, but I know I will have this when I am sixteen!
I love the g wagon is like a luxury tank. It's served his purpose for bumpy road, off roading you know where im from this perfect if i had the money i would buy one but the fuel will KILL anyone 😂
I have 2 G's , a short and a long wheelbase. One is a 290GDT, the other a G500. I don't find them uncomfortable or quirky. Maybe I'm just used to them after 4 years. People off the street compliment me all the time on them and I get 5-6 offers to sell them each year out of the blue. To me they are just Gunther and Gertrude. I plan to keep them forever. For whatever reason they have gotten under my skin. I can't think of anything else I would rather have even if an average honda is a better car really.
@@TedwardDrives Hey there. Commute is short. But we take a lot of road trips with the 2 door to the beach. The G500 sounds pretty sick. Classic M113 German v8. For me it feels like a lifted all wheel drive mid-90s rolls royce...if such a thing existed. Meaning very mechanical and basic but elegant and powerful. The 290 is a turbo diesel and sounds a bit like a steampunk engine. It's a 5 cylinder in line and has a funky way of decelerating at low revs. I like the rarity of it. People look at it like "is that a 2 door...Gwagon?" Then they hear the turbo diesel and think there is an error in the Matrix. :) I prefer the 2 door really. Smaller, Less flashy, more useful, more efficient. The family prefers the G500. It is white and turns heads.
I have a low mileage(18000 miles) mint conditioned Geländewagen G55 AMG, 5.5 V8 Compressor, from 2006. Not using it very much but Very fun to go for a spin😃👍 cheers from car collector in Norway.
I'm the psycho who would gladly daily anything from a vintage roadster to an Ariel, as long as the car was special enough to warrant the masochistic experience. So yes, I COULD for sure daily a G-Wagen. I wouldn't though, because it is too relaxing, nice, and subdued.
It’s funny that In US it’s posh celebrities car. In Europe it’s more gangster car as in early 90s lot of organized crime gangs were using it as identification of who they are. As far as I know especially in Eastern Europe it’s like that till this day.
I'm looking to get an older G63. Call me old fashioned but I don't like an LCD for my guages. I like my car analog raw, no turbos, I can tune the suspension. No computers, I'd rather fix the truck myself.
@Tedward ... 7:33 .. looks like you never will understand, that G63 and G65 are the AMG "SPORT" G Class wich are far less comfortable to the normal G models.
Just to add about it's weird popularity with the "wrong" people, it's heavy enough to register as a commercial vehicle. So, tax breaks, and if you get it as a company expense, it's practically free. Fucking gross that the rich can do that, but yeah that's a big reason for its popularity. Kinda luxury at minimal prices, then a status symbol leading to more people getting it.
Yeah, pretty sure my ex employer did it like that. He owned such a car, yet that @$$hole didn't want to pay out my hard earned salary. Went to court, he ended up having to pay extra on top of that...
Well, if anyone likes to sponsor this experiment by providing the car and covering all the expenses, I am willing to participate in this experiment for a year. I'll do it for science and for YOU, guys!
Phantom vs. G Class - "it's like going from an A380 to a piper cub"... perfect comparison 👍 Speaking of Tesla - the most boring car ever built so... "look for things that make you excited" 👌
Always wanted to try one of these. Just love the distinctive deep rumble that engine makes and I can always know when one is approaching even without looking. A friend of mine has the 320 version which of totally underpowered but it is such a solid car, built in the 90s.
