Well, at least for ballet you don't get many varying camera angles because ballet is often meant to performed towards the audience, and looks kinda strange for other angles. It is cool tho :)
In this day and age I'm sure its preserved in video, photos and writing if people somehow neglect practicing the art. And therefore can be revived simply by gathering and learning through its records.
This is one of the many things I love about the Pacific islands culture. It’s a story through music and dance. That’s why music is so universal. No matter where it comes from it speaks to the soul. This dance comes from the soul. It’s gorgeous.
From age 26 I had the opportunity to visit Hawaii a couple of times and move the in early 80s. Spent nrly 8 yrs on Maui. Every time I saw the Hula, heard a chant, participated in a ceremony the hairs on my arms stood on end. The communication to the soul and spirit is stimulating and mesmerizing.
Yes, Hawaii is so fascinating, with such a rich and interesting history/culture. Sadly, it is pretty much on the other side of the world from where I live, so I will most likely never be able to visit.
The most beautiful of held island traditions comes of the Hawaiian. What a pleasure to see how their joy to continue the celebrated traditions of the island dances. I feel so very lucky Hawaii is a state. The gift of these island dances must not be lost. They are just a joy to see. Imagine, no where in our world is the Hawaiian Island life expressions. 🌺🌊
Draco Sol it’s a LOT of strain on your knees and legs bc their legs are bent the entire time they are dancing. If you look closely at the girl’s feet at 6:18 you’ll see that she’s pushing her feet upward. Imagine doing that multiple times while you’re legs are bent too
Yes BlessedHawaii...if only people didn't objectify others; make their cultural expressions or appearances acts of sexuality. It's not just "missionaries" who openly comment on people being sexy in public and make the ordinary sordid, the ancient, natural and spiritual reduced to lust. Too sexy or so sexy... people shouldn't be reduced to objects. I agree.
Halau Kawaili'ula ~ WOW! They are the second halau in this video. It's clear as to why they placed 1st Kane Kahiko, 1st Kane Overall! I kept watching the guys dance over and over.
The judges REALLY have to be paying attention to score these ladies. I could see minor details between the ladies in blue in the first clip and the ladies in the third clip. I think they all did well.
can anyone figure out what song the guys are singing while she dances at 6:15? Is it Maewaikalani? or is that the name of the dance? I have searched on google for maewaikalani, but kekoa kane's version sounds completely different to this one. I want to find more of this version.
I want one of those blue dresses from the first routine. Also one of the burgundy ones at 4:52 And let’s go ahead and add the one from 7:46 Where are these sold? Where can I get my own?
Been watching a number of these great vids and can't help but wonder why the exclusive use of 19th century dress for the women, costumes restricted to the time of the late King?, respecting the conservative missionary's who seem to have had so much influence over the Kingdom?
1:20 Me: 0.o Me: I suddenly have the urge to get rich quick so that I can move to Hawaii and have a trophy husband. Me: *feels ashamed* Me: *looks at the screen again and leers* Help me! I don't want to be a sexist/racist creep!
It don't sound sexist or racist. There's something you need that would be akin to sunshine on theinside and that would be one of the places you can go to get that
No disrespect...I don't speak fluently, but why was she speaking so fast? Is that how you're suppose to speak it, or is she just trying to show us she can speak the language? Like when someone in schools good at reading and so when its their turn, they read really fast to show the class they're good readers
We need to return Hawai'i to its people. I want them to be able to enjoy their own culture in peace. To show Americans the REAL hula, not the fake luao stuff. It has its own language for fucks sake, and America still won't give it back.
It's kinda sad u don't really see as many "Hawaiian" people dancing!! Show of how much out culture has changed, kalamai if the people in there chanting and dancing are Hawaiian by blood which really matters!! But I meant by like physically, Hawaiian attributes the looks, instead we see more Asians and Filipinos and Hauoles. THE HAUOLE!! The people who treated our lands like crap since the day they came on our lands!!!
Frankly while they danced lovely the costumes were disappointing. The warriors should be in loincloths etc... absolutely ridiculous and the same goes for the granny dresses.
