The 991.2 Targa 4 GTS is my favorite new Porsche. Its so good to see it has a proper manual trans. He calls the interior trim swede it's not at all, it's actually alcantara, there is a big difference. Swede is leather and alcantara is synthetic. Thanks.

Great review and timely as well. I have a GTS, rear wheel drive, manual arriving early next week, its been a long wait since my order went in. Had a daily 991 C2S and then jumped to a Cayenne GTS thinking I needed a bigger vehicle, now going back to the 991.2 GTS- this will be my daily again and I will reuse my OEM bike racks I never sold when I need to haul my bikes. No issues with the 991 last go around and car really did everything (minus the snow) but will see how the even lower sports PASM handles the Bay Area roads. Tahoe is a beauty, thanks again.

I have just bought one of these in Agate Grey and collect it next week. I have the GTS interior pack with Rhodium silver contrast stitch. I sold a Ferrari F12 to get this and it will be a daily driver with PDK gearbox.

MotoMan, I much prefer the natural aluminum color. But having said that, I used to do aluminum plating. There were two types of aluminum anodizing: clear and hardcoat. Clear anodize is a thinner less protective coating and has the natural aluminum look and can be dyed any color. Hardcoat anodize is much thicker and tougher, but comes out being shades of brown or gray and be dyed in only one color, black. At least at the shop I worked at. As your friends at Porsche and give us the straight dope.

Have a 2018 Carrera 4 GTS cab on order for Aug delivery. Black on black, manual, 4 wheel steering, front end lift, carbon interior trim, red stitching..I love the look. In Wisconsin and will be my daily in the spring, summer and fall. I plan on driving the s*hit out of that car! Can't wait to take delivery at the Porsche test track in Atlanta!

The targa 4 gts is also my favorite 911 in the new Crayon color, goes Nice with all te black parts, also like the red roof. The targa roofbar finish depends on the color of the car, the alu is also very nice. I am planning to order this one next year or if i can get one the gt3 in the same color. Nice video Greetz.

My 2017 c4s is a cab in gt metallic silver, black interior and yellow dials and yellow belts with the S wheels in satin black. Love being able to drive it in the snow and put the top down and throw the kids in back on a warm day. Nice practical family car.

Serious question to all of you who watched this or have seen other episodes with my 'travel' and/or 'food' bits. Being that you know well I am HUGE travel, plane, learning and sometime local/soul/hole in the wall food geek - would you guys be interested in seeing one of the following: 1.) More of that kind of stuff in our usual episodes? - OR - 2.) Stand alone lifestyle/travel/learning episodes? Would love the honest feedback . . .

I like how they are integrated in an episode, serves as a break and change of pace, but often I find myself wishing you told us a lot more. I think you could leave quick bits, like this Godfather intermezzo, and whenever relevant, add a "4 of 4" episode where you have the time to expand into the lifestyle/travel. I know you can't do this with each review, seeing how much extra work it is, especially on the editing floor, but every now and then, I would definitely watch it!

If i were to go with the GTS I would definitely leave the black Targa-bar. I would, however, choose a different exterior colour (White or Karmin red?) that makes those satin black trims pop a little more.

When I buy one to daily, I will get the targa 4 GTS....irish green....still undecided on pdk or manual. My wife can pick the remaining details. Why would I daily this set up? 1) my wife has agreed to this car because of the custom color option, back seats and easy drivability (she has hated the prior sports car I had; Boss 302 for her was rough/loud and gave her a headache) 2) It's AWD and I live in the north east 3) targa (canopy down) has the best of both worlds and we have 4 seasons.

For a daily driver, a white Turbo with tan leather. If you get a targa, you need the silver bar. Why hide the most distinctive and distinguishing feature?

If I will go buy one 911.2, it will be the 911.2 4 GTS coupe in manual and the exterior in carrara white and for last in the interior the gts pack but with the carbon fiber wheel and gears selector in carbon fiber too :))

I'd go for the GTS RWD coupe for my daily. Since I do drive into the city everyday and sit in traffic on the way home, I would get PDK with power steering +, PDCC, and rear stear. I'd get it in the standard white with the standard alcantara interior with the Bose audio upgrade. On the outside, I'd option a rear wiper, model designation delete, porsche entry and drive, the roof transport kit, and power folding mirrors. No sunroof for me. All in $135,200. Portland OR, USA

Genuinely great review, very informative and interesting. I currently drive a 991.2 Carrera S and am thinking of upgrading to the GTS as I hope it is a bit more 'raw' as you describe it. Personally, I like the black on black as it's a bit bat mobile!

This exact car but in metallic or base white would look super hot. Targa's are extremely rare -- I love 911's and have only seen a handful of the 991 versions. Classy and iconic look for sure. Would be an amazing daily and just a perfect car for NorCal (SF, Big Sur, Napa, Tahoe). Will definitely watch your upcoming videos if you go the Targa route! Thanks for your reviews -- refreshingly real.

911 Carrera 4 GTS Graphite Blue or Carrara white with graphite blue/ chalk interior or the agate grey interior. Premium plus package with the 14 way seats. PDK why? because its a daily driver, front axle lift ( got to get over the speed bumps) PDLS+, PDCC/PASM, rear steering, and the Burmester sound system or at least the bose

I'm torn between the all black 911 turbo S with espresso brown interior or with some hints of carbon fiber trim or a Carrera Silver with espresso brown just a classic and timeless look. I've always liked the 911 turbo because I've always wanted one since I was a kid. I'm 30 years old but I always thought that though a 911 is a supercar, it can be daily driven and it is well built. I like that it has that low key look and they've kept their sleek design. I feel as though people who know their cars, know what it is capable of and doesn't look flashy. It's performance speaks for itself simply.

My dream 911 for daily would be a Carrera 4 GTS with a PDK in Carrera white. If it was a weekend fun car I'd opt for the manual. Daily driving a manual in heavy traffic sucks and I'd rather not. Also I like the black Targa bar.

Miami blue paint with all the black accents. rims targa bar headlight taillights ect.. even a black interior but with Miami blue contrast stitching and Miami blue painted interior trim. I'd even have my brake calipers painted Miami blue in the aftermarket.

Personally my preference with black paint would be brushed stainless targa bar, with straight silver alloys. Ideally I'd have a grey, silver or 'off' white 'car'..... just my preference.

I daily a 997.2 GTS, it has the aerokit and carbon buckets of the GT2RS!. I think if you're not too keen on the cab/targa, the GTS with the wide body and RWD is the way to go. I would also consider no centerlocks (cool as hell but a pain to maintain). As for the colour, carmine red is very special! And if i could PTS, Brewster green!!

My 911 of choice would be the Carerra 4S Cabriolet, with PASM, 4-wheel steering, ceramic brakes, vhrono package and power package...and full leather interior. BTW...I would go with the black Targa bar, regardless of body color...and a black top, too.

Soon, I will order a 911 Turbo S with Miami Blue color, PDK PASM etc. included, and interior will be all-alcantara-parliament blue with exterior colored trim options. I am obsessed with this configuration. This will probably take an exclusive design department to deal with, and with extra payments.

Id get a 2 year old Turbo S Cabriolet with 8k miles for $149k. Wait, thats what I did this weekend! My other closest choice was a '17 GTS Cab 4. Red, manual, 2k mi for $155k. That cars in NH btw. Nice but look what you get if you allow a bit more depreciation and wait for a Turbo: Ceramic Brakes, lots more HP, tons more optional equip and my opinion less depreciation/more rarity and more a true exotic. And if it's Porsche Certified, arguably a better warranty than new. As for your question about Targas I think most Targa buyers are true "Targa People" and will want the silver color because it screams Targa. Porsche has gone too crazy with the options and models on the 911..a car they wanted to cancel at one time. I'm surprised there's no Turbo Targa model. But I have one big question: isn't the idea of a Targa to include simplicity? In your last Targa video you showed how it works. It has all the complexity and weight of a Cabriolet! Loses the whole idea of Chassis stiffness. Seems rediculous. You don't just remove a couple panels. It's basically a hardtop folding roof convertible set-up. Except you can't be driving to operate it like the cab. Why not build them like they used to? Targas are overpriced, overcomplex, and useless compared to a Cab. Porsche was one of the last manufacterers to sell a convertible car, and for many years the Targa was the only choice safe enough for Porsche to sell. Cabs now have a very advanced quick deploying R.O.P. that no one on RU-vid ever talks about. But anyway that's the only reason they sell a Cab and in the meantime Porsche developed a fan base of the earlier Targa. What does the Targa have now, an R.O.P. system or is the Targa bar still stuctural?? Good subject for a new video

Targa GTS, Mine would have aluminum in the interior instead of carbon fiber, aluminum Targa Bar, silver wheels and seal grey or silver exterior color... Last but not least, delete all the emblems in the back and just put "911"... Everything else same as the one in the video, manual, all the GTS included options, the stitching and red accent's. I'd go for either Graphite Blue with a Tan leather interior, beige gauges, black taillights & a silver Targa bar. Or Polar Silver (special order) with black interior, yellow gauges & silver Targa bar. In both configuration no badges & I'd swap out the rear grille for the Ram Airs vents from the new 991 GT3.

With all due respect to Zuffenhausen, the concern of "warranty" claims arising from PASM equipped Targas seems more rationalization than engineering. Targa buyers are well advised the model is NOT as rigid as the coupe and, depending on how hard the car is driven and regular maintenance, creaks and rattles could be minimal. Also making PASM an option on GTS Targas would give Porsche the opportunity to add additional reinforcing members to the chassis. For the "black vs. silver" roll over bar question contrast is a key aesthetic to exterior/interior color selection. Black Targa GTSs look better with the aluminum roll bar. Porsche did previously offer a stunning mahogany exterior paint option but apparently this is now "special order"

I would daily a Carerra 4S, Carerra 4 GTS, a Turbo S and a Carerra GT3 (I wouldn't daily an RS). I would get the PDK and sport chrono (standard in the GTS config) and I would get a hard top. I'd go with red, yellow, or a blue.

rear wheel drive, stick, convertible gts. Basically a daily gt3 with the top gone as a daily but if i really had to choose it would be a gt3 hands down. i have 997.1 turbo auto and its not really worth much for me to sell and buy another 911.

Hopeful Daily: Carrera 4 (POSSIBLY in Yellow) or else Black or miami blue + PDK + PTV+ + Black Tailpipes + LED headlamps + Multi Steering Wheel + Burmester = $120k Dream Daily: Literally the Targa 4 GTS you are driving now + PDK + Keep the Black Targa Bar + Burmester = $160k Hope you guys see this!

Love your reviews. I'm happy with a 'poverty package' 991.2 Cab delivered in Feb 17. Then again, I'm in Australia where a GTS costs about $A60,000 more - at today's exchange rate a GTS costs $A330,000 = $US245,000!!

It's gotta be the: 911 Targa 4 GTS Carmine Red or Miami Blue, if i'm feeling a bit outrageous Black Alcatara or Saddle brown leather, with red or silver contrast Aluminium inserts the black BBS Style wheels manual Gearbox Burmester Soundsystem black roof One of my absolute dream cars, gotta get one some day! But first a FD RX7 ...and a S211 E55 AMG... ...and a WRX... ...and a MK1 GTI for the lady... Yeah... goals.

I'd daily a turbo s with all the options and a ton of leather! Most power, best sound and the most refined driving modes. But then again, if I could afford a turbo s, I'd probably have 10 other cars so really leaves a daily driver as redundant

I would take a GTS with glass sunroof. PDK I just really like them. I love the Targa but because of the PASM being unavailable I would go with sunroof version and also rear wheel drive even though I live where it snows due to fun to drive reasons. Rick

Interesting review I just bought this or at least ordered this for 2019, spec was difficult but dark blue with tan interior was the answer, with black bar, otherwise just too dark. Changed from a gt3 which is a great car , but a one trick pony. It goes really fast, more than I needed.

991.1 Carrera or Carrera S with a good overall configuration, PASM, sport chrono etc. NA engine, less torque, momentum car. PDK or manual, I love both. I know the 991.2 is faster, but the NA engine is magical.

Very nice review. I cannot agree with you more on the black on black on black point. Besides the issue with trying to keep it clean, it is simply too depressing. Furthermore, I find that it hides a lot of the exterior and interior features of the car design, because it's all black. Perhaps I'm watching too many Moto-Man videos and have been subconsciously reconditioned to feel this way? As for the best value, I think Chris Harris nailed it in one of his reviews from a couple of years ago, the best value in a 911 if you can use the word value and 911 in the same sentence, has got to be the 911 Turbo -not the S. A similarly equipped one to this GTS targa, would be a convertible, coming in at just under $180k, which is still a ton of money of course, but you are getting way more car for your 20 grand.

2016 911 (991.1) 4 GTS, manual , wanted in before the turbo engine. Went with two tone (black/tan) leather so I could have vented seats, plus not a fan of alcantara. Like the black out you get with the GTS. Not a big fan of the Targa, maybe if it was just a removable roof panel ? Just wanted a coupe and went with the sunroof instead of the glass moonroof so my roof would be all white when closed, like that clean look. Only complaints really so far......no hand brakes anymore and the power seats are so slow..................................

All the 911's are capable of being a daily. I would either get this in Guards red, black bar, and kalahari leather or silver but not sure what interior. With over 20 iterations of the 911, I'm surprised this one is ordered 25% of the time.

Go with the black/tan interior, I did. I tried all tan in a test car and there was way too much reflection of the dash on the windshield. Mahogany trim was not an option in the GTS (in Canada) but I like it

That does come in black I think ? even with the full tan, but you can option different steering wheels anyway.

I think the steering wheel colour is tied to the choice of leather, but when I said tan I really meant the natural leather espresso/cognac option

Where is the 3/3 video on his targa 4 gts? I’ve ordered a very similar car black with the red roof. Unfortunately neither 1/3 or 2/3 videos show it with the top up. I was hoping the 3/3 will show it but it is no where to be found on your page. Please let me know. Thanks! Great vids by the way!

For me...the GTS hardtop with a PDK and sport suspension would be my car. Why PDK you ask? well it's faster pure and simple. I LOVE my manual cars BUT I have a 1986 944 Turbo (with mods) and it is a BLAST to drive but I know the PDK can shift faster than I can. I know the question was daily but bear with me...Around town it's more pleasant to drive AND it's faster on the track...win win...

If it really is a savings compared to the Targa 4S, then I'd get this too. Also with a silver targa bar. Also in a more elegant color scheme. It's a sports car, not a track car. I wouldn't try to make a Targa a track car. That would be pointless in my opinion.

I think the 4s is stunning and the best daily but it's a bit expensive, surely Porsche can make this car at half the price but that's just me..."Yeshua ( Jesus ) is the way"
