2017 RAM 2500 6.7 Cummins engine knock with oil analysis results.
The only difference between the two UOA results is the truck pulled a heavier fifth wheel RV in the second UOA compared to the first one. (UOA used oil analysis)
Engine oil: Shell Rotella T 15W-40
First test was a 9,000 pound fiver. 3655 miles ,half of mileage is towing.
Second test was a 11,500 pound fiver. 4334 miles, half of mileage is towing.
Lab comments: The "deep knock" isn't ideal, and the only clue to the potential source in these results is iron. It's still quit high on a per-mile basis and it didn't really improve much compared to last time. It should be lower if it were from wear-in material last time, just like copper and silicon dropped. Aluminum bumped up too, so maybe the extra iron is due to hard use like towing or hauling. In any case, use 4,000 miles if all is well, despite the 7.1 TBN, just until iron improves a bit. Too much iron can make the oil itself abrasive. Check back at next service.
