Well I had a first gen Smart all black in and out and I liked it. Never used the auto always the paddle shifters.very east to get in and out of and very comfortable for the long haul.i live in Indiana and took it to Georgia and Colorado no problem. Went up pikes peak and Jeep in front of me was in my way. Car had bags of torque and very stable. Got hit in the rear and drove away crushed muffler and cat. Camry that hit me had to be flat bedded, punched radiator. I would still have it but wife hated it and said next husband would have a real car. I traded for a 3 series Manuel coupe. Nice car divorce is expensive might have made a mistake.
Such awesome small car, I had one for 7 years ( 2008 model ), Never ever have any issues with it, add a little modify to it, it can be drive like Ferrari. Trust me, you will need own one to appreciated.
Jonathan Chao I guarantee you, there is NO WAY this would ever drive like a Ferrari!!! T his is not a Real Car it's a toy. a toy for rich adults to play with.
Can you tell me more about sound issues with the top closed. I test drove a Cabrio that made a horrid continuous nosy sound that came from the top. Sound as if the wind was raining on the front portion....crazy right
There are no towns or roads in America small enough for a car like this. But as the reviewer says, you buy it for the fun factor. Only if I were living in a European city like London or many places in Italy with their cute little streets where parking is also a nightmare would this car be in its element.
Sam I have to say, the center console (by the shifter on the passenger side) looks misaligned with a big gap and the glove box door looks half closed. Fit and finish?
ib516 yeah, be super gentle touching anything on the car, might come apart. testament to its strength and quality. one good pothole probably rip a wheel off.
I'm surprised at how much he enjoyed this car. I love me some new cars. I love the smell; all of the latest technology, even if it's somewhat pointless, like electronic shifters and fake engine noise. However, if I had to choose between this or a CPO, it would be the CPO.
You can get a Honda Civic for the same price and the car is way more efficient and not too much bigger. It gets way more than 89hp and weighs just about 3,000lbs to top it all off, you can tell he doesn't like it either, but doesn't want to piss off the "small car" fannoys, saying "well you get used to it," or "it's not that bad" alot.
Are you referring to the Nash Metropolitanr? One of our teachers drove one. We picked it up and put it by the front doors. He had to go down two steps, down the long walk to the sidewalk and then drive down the sidewalk to the driveway.
In the EU they have a 5 speed manual. But this double clutch automatic is 6 speed and preferable! You can shift it manually with the 'peddles' behind the steering wheel
I like weird, unique, quirky cars like this. But the other half of my brain says you give up A LOT for the that unique appeal. High price, slow and poor fuel economy. The only advantages over anything in the subcompact class are its unique appeal, high seating position, and ease of parking and maneuvering. If I were wealthy, i might buy one just for a little fun run about. But as primary transportation for 95% of vehicle owners in the US, it just makes no sense. This opinion comes from someone who owns subcompact hatchback that is far cheaper new, offers better MPG, and a hell of a lot more cargo space.
Hi All. I bought my daughter a 2013 SmartCar FourTwo Passion. She rear ended a car going 12 mph and "totalled" the car. This is not something I would have expected from a Mercedes-Benz. The car is crap and I believe very unsafe. My daughter hurt her knees and her head but was not hospitalized. I contacted Mercedes Customer Support and it was virtually non existent. I will never buy anything from Mercedes again. Awful unsafe car from a company that does not care about its customers! Very disappointing. DO NOT BUY!
@@MrJohnOtime That's what I was thinking.. 12mph and 'totalled it'...yeah right - I'm in Nz, but by law here, (I'm guessing there too) it's always the person who rear ends the car in fronts fault. This scenario has got FB live/Snapchat/Texting while driving written all over it (while driving at speed faster than 12mph). That's the problem with some the young generation, they don't know how take their eyes off their phone for 30 seconds.. I used to drop my younger workmate off home every night after work, and apart from talking my ears off for 2 hours each night, i noticed she would pull her hand up from the side of her leg and would look at the blank screen on her phone.. Nothing had happened, no notification beep, or ringtone,. Nothing, but she would intermittently look at it every single minute! That was like 8 years ago now.. Before Smartphones, so she was just in expectation of any text.. So this generation has been ramped up with the multitude of distractions of their phones screens now.. 📱 👀
@@MrJohnOtime you should check his channel , the video is there .....his daughter was accelatering hard and ploughed into a car in heavy traffic not once touching her brakes so evidence of not looking at the road ahead and the first thing you see is his daughters phone hit the dashboard lol and he is going on every smart page telling his stupid story , funny on his own page every body said his daughter was on the phone , but daddy defends her with a bullshit story
Cedric M what exactly do your mean 'a real car' fairly certain he was driving it around and touching it.. So it's real. Or Sam has really upped his editing and CGI game.
kolyan1980 the Mirage is a cheap piece of garbage, and is incredibly unsafe by crash standards sitting next to the Smart as well. The bells and whistles you speak of are all on the Smart as well.
cute I guess as a toy to play with around town. but these should be illegal to drive on the freeway. every time I pass one IAm afraid I'll blow it off the road! lol! and 23000 dollars? outrageous
ok this is not a car. it's a toy. a toy fr girls period. would anybody want to l to drive this from cali to the east coast? good God no. In fact I doubt it could go that far without a breakdown. and I was shocked to see that fuel economy is so poor. many compact sedans fully loaded get better than this. anyways, I hear sales are so poor it's going bye bye soon. this was a boutique car with very limited appeal. those that wanted one have it, so very few people left to buy it now.
Probably a car less suited for most parts of the US(been there). But fits in nice in and around most cities in the EU. Why should it breakdown on a far trip.. It is a modern car with a very safe 'tridion' safety cell’ Monocoque forms the fundamental shape, made from various grades of high-strength steel. The version with the turbo motor does also pretty ok on the highway. But it is a nice car yes. Looks 'weird' for many but once you (test)drive it, it might make you smile from ear to ear.
Also virtually no one drives from one end to the country to the other. You're in finding a used case that hasn't been a thing since the 70s. I own a Veloster and a MGB roadster and if I had to move over 1000 miles it's on the plane they go.
