The Washington Capitals defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in 6 games in the first round of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Washington was led by stellar offense from the usual suspects like Ovechkin and Backstrom, as well as support players like Justin Williams and Marcus Johansson. The series went to overtime in 5 out of 6 games, and while the Leafs managed to gain an early 2-1 lead, the Caps rallied to win 3 in a row to clinch a spot in round 2. The Capitals will face the Pittsburgh Penguins in a second round rematch of last year.
